Start with clean, dry hair, spraying heat protectant liberally throughout. Brush and section hair.
Set iron to the desired temperature for your hair type.
Starting with a 1" section, open the clamp and place iron with at the root (use caution near the scalp). Place the section between the barrel & clamp, then lightly close.
With the clamp lightly closed, twist the iron in an outward direction away from the face until halfway down hair section. Close the clamp and hold for 3-5 seconds, then lightly release clamp. Do not remove hair from iron.
With the clamp slightly open, continue to twist the iron in the same direction until ends of hair are wrapped around the barrel. Close the clamp and hold for 3-5 seconds, then open the clamp and remove from hair.
PRO TIP: Stop wrapping when you reach the section's last ¼ - ½" so ends stay uncurled for a beachy style.
PRO TIP: Once the section is released from iron, cup section from the bottom with your hand and reform the curl. Either hold it or pin it until it's cool to make your style last even longer.
Repeat with remaining sections until entire head is styled. Once curls are cooled, brush through for soft curls and waves.

Great iron but questionable extended barrel
Some things I love about the Hot Tools 1 ¼ extended barrel curling iron are: quick heat-up time, swivel cord, multiple heat settings, and it created a beautiful loose curl or beachy wave that lasted all day. My main con is that for being called an extended barrel, I did not find it to be much longer...

Worked in Italy!
Bought this for a trip to Italy and used it with an adapter for 12 days and worked great! Never overheated at all
NOT LIKE IT USED TO BE
Today I will return my second Hot Tools curling iron in two months. My very first one lasted years, and when I finally needed to replace it, I went back for the same one. Tried and true, right? The "new" design has a major flaw, the clamp. I have now gone through two in less than two months both with faulty clamps. You can open it and it stays open! Not doing this every day. I am so disappointed. Moving on to another brand now.
Blew a fuse
Every time I plugged it up it blew a fuse. At home and at a hotel I was at on vacation.
The lever for the clamp is cheap and bends
After years of having my old hot tools curling iron, it stopped working and i had to buy a new one. So I of course, went to pick up a new one because the last one had worked so well. However, the new version of this iron is made with much cheaper material. The part of the iron, where the metal lever is where you put your thumb to open the clamp constantly bends and I have to bend it back. I have thicker hair but ive never had this problem before. It does work well and curls my hair, but this is really annoying to constantly have to adjust. Ill use it until it breaks, but im not sure id buy another one.
Maybe mine is faulty
Maybe my iron is malfunctioning because even on the highest setting, its not very hot. Seems to be faulty. I have the 2".
