Most Helpful Positive Review Makes me believe in miracles. I've had color damage to my mixed hair for about a year now and I've been so upset about losing my curls. I bought this for my dry skin, but I kept hearing about its healing properties and how it's good for hair. I put it in my hair and slept on it and had an OVERNIGHT difference. Not only did I have curls, but full, thick, bouncy curls that I haven't had since bleaching my hair. My friends and family noticed immediately. I thought it was a fluke, but it happens every time! I seriously thought I'd destroyed my curls forever and I'd have to cut it super short and never color it again. I have a blond balayage and it's bouncing with the rest of my natural color now. 100% a miracle worker. Skip the expensive keratin treatments and try this first. Unreal.
Most Helpful Critical Review Seems fake.. I've used several brands and types of Shea butter and I honestly don't feel it's the real deal. Don't get me wrong, I've had Shea butter that melted and re-solidified because of the mail....but trust me, it just doesn't look or act like this.
Smell—Though it's a bit on the 'perfume-y' side, it does smell pretty authentic; I prefer earthier/smokier Shea butters personally.
Color—a tad too white, like it's been bleached a bit.
Functionality—I've never had a beige butter THIS sticky and difficult to rub in and it doesn't completely dissolve—that's just weird for Shea butter. Melted Shea is pretty much a super thick oil, there's no reason it shouldn't dissolve—smooth or gritty texture.
I mean yellow Shea will take a much longer time to absorb into the skin in comparison to beige, but this is on another level..
I blended it to help soften it—no difference .
I blended it with oils—no difference. Weird.
I know everyone is saying you should melt it, but that should never be a REQUIREMENT with quality, authentic Shea. Plus, I melted it just for kicks and it re-solidified back into the same gritty texture..
Recommend spending your money elsewhere. Stay away from this mystery goo..

This stuff is gritty and when you rub it on. It is also hard as a rock! I am so unhappy with this brand. Waste of money!

I've been using this brand for awhile now. It was recommended by a Dr to use on surgical scars to help blend in with my skin tone. I now use it all over and to help my hair grow where it was thinning. I sometimes have to warm it in microwave, stir it. And let it cool to get a nice smooth consistency. If in a hurry I'll use it in it's liquid form.. Either way I have no complaints. It even works when gritty if you put small amounts in your palm and and use your other hand . The natural heat from your hands will melt it.
Works great 5

This product is very different it is hard to dissolve in your hands and it does take a minute to read in however I've been using it for a month and my skin is extremely soft and smooth although I do have to rub it in for a long time it is one of the best products that I've ever used and I will continue to use it. It works great on dry feet and I will definitely recommend the Shae moisture body wash as well as the body scrub and body butter and body oil I use all for products and my skin is glowing and is very soft
Don't listen to the other reviews! 5

Yes it is grainy, yes it does not melt on the skin. ITS RAW PEOPLE! This is a fantastic product. To use it, take a glass container, put 3 tablespoons in, melt it in the microwave. VOILÀ! I'm using it for my pregnant belly and it's absolutely perfect and so moisturizing.
Didn't like the smell, didn't like the texture 1
Adriana2626 from West New York, NJ
The smell is awful, texture is weird and have some beads inside very hard to melt
Is it supposed to be gritty? 2

I don't mind the smell, it seems to moisturize but it also leaves gritty balls that don't rub in.
SOLUTION FOR THOSE HAVING PROBLEMS 5

BECAUSE THIS STUFF IS AMAZING
I just left a comment on the site I normally buy from because
it's sad to see the bad comments due to naivety about a product.
Due to shipping and how it is stored at facilities that carries the product, when the temperature increases(heat) then decreases rapidly, it will make ALL raw butter, due to having no preservatives, grainy because it is not evenly cooled......
SOLUTION -
PUT IT IN A GLASS BOWL, HEAT IT UP IN A POT WITH WATER (NOT BOILING)...UNTIL HALF MELTED.....REMOVE FROM HEAT.......STIR UNTIL ITS ALL MELTED.....THEN LET IT COOL SLOWLY NATURALLY......
THEN IT IS BACK TO THE CREAMINESS :)
put a plastic lid on after it has turned solid and it will stay moisturized and smooth.
It should be kept in a glass container anyway. A glass container can be obtained in the baking aisle literally anywhere for a couple dollars.
I really am happy to find this Shea Butter. 5

I buy a lot of different Shea Butters, but my favorite was when I purchased some raw organic East Africa "Nilotica" Shea Butter, slightly more expensive and it was the best I had ever used. However, I have not reordered anymore online. Shopping today I found this Shea Moisture 100% raw Shea Butter and it looked the same color as the organic I had purchased before so I grabbed it! When I opened it I was surprised by the granules, it almost looked like emulsifier but that's because of its fatty acids solidifying. I could tell by the smell, (which I will never forget how nilotica shea butter smells), it was the exact same kind! When I rubbed some on my fingers and saw it in its melted form, I knew I hit Jackpot!! This is Nilotica shea butter, one of the finest qualities of shea butter. This one is very gritty, but it has the same exact consistency of the other one, super creamy! All I had to do is warm it up double boiler method and your hands and skin will thank you! The hidden blessing in it for me is I'm a DIY hair girl and I buy a lot of hair ingredients and I make shampoo bars too. So I was planning to make hair conditioner with this, which I needed btms for, but I'm a skip that as "this" butters present fatty acids, which are good and plentiful here, have solidified almost like the perfect emulsifier! So I know when I melt it, if I choose to it will "emulsify" well at this state with my other ingredients better than my cheaper creamy shea butter and is of better conditioning quality leaving me not needing the btms if any perhaps a very small amount. I'm well pleased!!!
GRAINY 1
Caro from SF
The consistency is VERY off…it's grainy like rice and doesn't melt with your hands or warm water. Not buttery at all!!!!!
A definite recommendation 5

This product is excellent. Hair is moisturized and hydrated. No need for microwaving to melt.
Product unusable because too grainy! 1
Ludi from undisclosed
product unusable because too grainy! the butter does not get on the skin even when massaging for several minutes! I had too rinse my skin... I've never seen this ... to use it I had to melt it over low heat ... not very practical!
Grainy 2

Have been wanting to try this brand's raw shea butter for a while. When it went on sale, I grabbed a tub; unfortunately, during shipping, the product became hot and did not cool quickly so the product is extremely grainy. Every time I need to use it, I must heat it up and then quickly cool in the fridge to use on my son's eczema.
Never Again 1
TheStylist1 from Sherwood, Arkansas
I will never purchase this product again. I've never had shea butter like this. It's hard to smooth on skin and has peebles that bead on skin. I purchased this product after reading reviews but thought maybe it was a bad product for that person but it's just a BAD PRODUCT PERIOD....I'LL NEVER PURCHASE AGAIN. NOW I'M STUCK WITH A TERRIBLE PRODUCT.
Just gross 1

My hair never held moisture before using this product AMAZING. I'm natural for the second time and I have NEVER had anything lock in moisture the way this does. I can Comb through my hair no problem. It looks and feels healthier than ever. 10/10!SheaMoisture
This is the most 5

This is the most fantastic natural product. I use it to keep my feet smooth and being in hospitality I'm on me feet on concrete floors for 80 hours a week sometimes. It's great for all over moisture too, or even scratchy doggy paws. Because it's natural I have non-issue using it on pets because it's safe for them to lick unlike so many gross paw butters no essential oils.

I expected PERFECT shea butter from a company cal 1

This is the worst "raw" Shea butter I have ever purchased. It is very gritty and honestly feels like soft candle wax. Upon opening, I was surprised to find it in a semi-solid state as raw Shea butter is typically solid and hard. I though this would be a good thing because it seemed this would make it easier to spread. Boy was I wrong. It was impossible to emulsify no matter how much I rubbed. So I went old school and decided to whip it as I've done with many other Shea butters in the past. Even this was a fail. Despite mixing with a hand mixer for 15 minutes it was still a gritty, grainy mess. This photo shows how many chunks were left on my hands after rubbing them together for several minutes AFTER whipping. Obviously I can't return it since I've altered the original product, but I definitely won't be purchasing again.
like breakfast grits 3
Irish princess from New Bern NC
I have used shea butter for years and tried this brand as it was on sale, and i like their other products. I agree with other reviewers, when you open the jar it looks like a jar of grits. There are grits sized hard balls of shea butter, I tried heating this in the microwave, tried heating it on the stove, you can't get those to melt no matter what. And it does not rub in. I returned it to the store. I've been extremely pleased with all of the other shea moisture products that I have purchased, but this one is a big no.
Before using this product 4
raindropsonthebay from undisclosed
Before using this product I had never tried raw shea butter. I had of course heard about its benefits but didn't know where to purchase unadulterated shea butter from a brand that I trusted until I found this product. I love it. I am used to using cocoa butter and shea butter is similar but it seems to be more occlusive. It works wonders in the wintertime.
greasy and grainy 1
A from albany, ny
I reheated it twice to get all the little balls out of it, but it's still got a weird gritty grainy texture, and it doesn't absorb into the skin. It's incredibly greasy as well. I feel like this probably isn't as authentic as they're claiming it is.
Do not buy these instant grits shea butter 1
Kswiss1995 from undisclosed
The consistency of this raw shea butter is like that of instant grits & takes forever to absorb on my skin. There are tiny grains EVERYWHERE. This is the worst shea butter I've ever used in my whole life; I wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy. Y'all really charge 15 dollars for this? Like dead***? The 5 dollar raw shea butter from my local African store is much better quality I just didn't feel like driving halfway across town after a long day at work.
I absolutely love this 5
rhondam34 from undisclosed
I absolutely love this product and brand for my whole family. I use the Shea butter all over my skin and I create a whipped hair butter by using this and adding a few essential oils and blending. It comes out as a soufflé great for keeping your hair moisturized.
