Most Helpful Positive Review Best bleach kit I've ever used
This kit in Pure Platinum is fantastic. It's the best bleach I've used, it completely neutralizes the red in my hair, and gets my hair literally to a pure platinum color (almost white), and processes quickly. My hair is naturally on the cusp of dark blond-brown, with heavy red. The lilac colored conditioner is a nice touch, though it's not a true "purple conditioner". In my opinion, it's not pigmented enough to do any real toning, but my hair isn't left brassy anyway. It does however leave my hair feeling amazing, and I get a lot of use out of the tube.
While the fantastic results are worth it, and none of these cons really bother me, I can think of a few. I don't feel like you get a lot of product; I let my roots go for a while (maybe an inch & a half) and struggle to stretch one bottle for my whole head. I think part of the reason for that is my next con: it dries on my hair really quickly, making it really hard to see which areas are saturated before it starts developing, as well as difficult to move my hair around to double check for missed spots.
I would not say this is a beginner friendly product, but that goes for all at home bleaching.... Though I guess you have to start somewhere, right?
Most Helpful Critical Review Not Really High Lift But Its Decent
I have silvery white hair with pale pastels throughout but tried to do a balayage of black smudge roots which turned out nowhere near as awesome looking as the models I have seen with hair like that. Soooo I grabbed up some color stripper to get the black out (the color stripper that smells like rotten eggs but is way safer than trying to bleach out black!). It worked. The black was gone but left me with dark auburn roots which looked even weirder with the rest of my silvery pastel hair. So after a week and a couple clarifying shampoos, I grabbed up this Garnier LB1 as well as some bleach. I did a strand test with both and they both lightened the same amount but the bleach made the hair feel like straight up PLASTIC (and I only used 20vol developer with it, whereas this Garnier LB1 has 40vol!). So I said "Heck nah!" to the bleach and used the Garnier instead. Its definitely not blonde like on the box. I would not say that it lifts 4 levels. Maybe 3 at the most, so now my roots are more like a medium brassy blonde instead of dark auburn. It pretty much does what a lower level bleach will do but is not anywhere near as harsh. I have a very sensitive scalp. I can't even use a shampoo with sulfates in it or my scalp goes crazy. Yet the Garnier LB1 surprisingly did not bother my scalp at all, even with it having a 40vol developer. I will also say that the consistency is quite nice and spreads very easily and evenly without splattering everywhere. The smell is a bit strong at first but fades by the time you have it applied. It rinsed fairly easily and I didn't have much hair fall. So the cons are: It doesn't lift 4 levels, and its also not a "cool" blonde like the box states. Its a brassy blonde. The pros are that it does lighten decent while being gentle, doesn't smell too bad, and has a good consistency/easy to apply. That being said, since its so gentle, I may just wait a week to let my hair rest then give it another go to brighten it up a level, then use some violet shampoo and conditioner to get rid of the rest of the brass.

First, it smells. Second, used it for my daughter and her hair turned orange on her roots (and yes I waited to apply to her roots), and the rest of her hair turned lighter brown and green. Do not recommend.

This isn't my first rodeo with Garnier but this is by far the most disappointed I've ever been with one of their products! I have medium brown hair at the roots and bleached the rest of the way and it may as well be black! So much for that boost of self confidence. I would have been better off dying it black- at least it wouldn't look so bad
megzladypink from Colorado
Should have really considered why it was so cheap. This was a really unimpressive product. I have been dyeing my own hair for years and this was by far the most disappointed I have felt over an outcome. It was almost completely faded after 3 washes. It did not look like anything close to what the box depicts, even on the parts of my hair that are very light brown/blonde. The color has no purple hints whatsoever- the name of the color is incredibly decieving. Will not be buying any Garnier hair dyes again any time soon.
First time product didnt work

The Best Platinum Blonde Hair Dye
Zoe4577 from Indianapolis, IN
I came to the site just to leave a review about how awesome this hair dye is. My natural hair color is a dish water dark blonde. I dye my hair platinum and can never find the right hair dye to use for my roots when touching up. Usually platinum hair dyes will leave brassy tones in my hair and to be honest, going from a darker blonde to platinum shouldn't be so hard. This hair dye is amazing. The best hair dye I have ever used and will continue using. You can't even see my roots or any brass. Thanks Garnier!
Color nothing like the box
Kg0228 from Broken arrow, oklahoma
I bought this hair color not even thinking twice about it as I've used Garnier for years. I've even used this color before and I loved it. This time I got out of the shower and my hair is RED! Like pink-red and it looks terrible. It's bad enough that I'm considering never using Garnier again. The fact that I'm disappointed is an understatement.
The box results are not accurate at all
Mercedes G from New York
This box made my medium brown hair very dark. The box results are inaccurate and I'm completely disappointed with the results. Won't be purchasing again.
Turned out closer to Natural Black Blue
Cixtos from Ladera Ranch, CA
Bought a sealed Darkest Brown. Color on the tube matched what was on the box. The color I ended up with was closer to Natural Blue Black. Other than that, the product is very well presented. My hair feels soft and healthy. The instructions were very easy to follow.
My absolute favorite product!

When I was transitioning to blond I first had my hair done professionally. That was very expensive so I set out to look for something I could do at home to finish the job. This stuff lightened my hair up so well! I was so, so happy with the results and now I buy it for whenever I need a touch up.
My new go to color

I love the dimensions of this color. It's been weeks and my hubby is still complimenting it!
Will def be my new go to... especially for the summer... the lights just bounce off!

I am extremely upset! I just used it on my daughters dark brown hair and now it's RED!!! She's very upset and so am I! This is. It ok!!!!!
AbbyA99 from Maryland
This has got to be the worst hair dye I have ever used! My hair is a darker brown, but not darker than any of the pictures on the box. I followed the directions exactly and my tips (which are lighter than my natural hair) is a red/pink and my natural hair didn't change.
turned my hair red

my hair was already a faded purple but after dyeing it with this its red. The box showed different shades of dark purple none had a tint of red.

Waste of money and time. I have medium brown hair and I tried this color and it doesn't have a shade of blue in it at all. It made it dark, almost black, but no blue. Can't even see any blue in the sun.

it smells good but i ordered the violet and now it's bright red...
Great for dark hair
Frostywolf07 from Fort Smith, Arkansas
I used this product on my black roots, l left it on for a hour, after l rinsed and condition my hair, my black roots was lifted to a level 6 hair color. (Dark blonde) It does irritate your scalp, since the dye has a 40 volume, since 40 volume isn't recommended for use on the scalp. Still pretty impressed :)
Garnier products have slipped
Ladybuggg13 from undisclosed
Made my head darker. Not really more red but if anything perhaps a slight tingle of red, not violet, as all these other recent posts suggest. It legit feels like they mixed up a huge vat of this with the wrong box!!! I think I've used this exact colour before and it's way different. Such a shame. I used to really like these products but something has slipped. I'll think twice before buying garnier in general now because this is a second strike for me. I don't mind paying a bit more and actually knowing what I will get.

I have dark down/black hair. I followed the directions exactly and se absolutely no difference. I will not be purchasing hair dye from Garnier any more. Waste of money. I even bought 2 boxes because of the length of my hair.

I bought this dye with the hope that my hair would be purple, like the color that was shown on the box.

Too black, not enough blue
WantedBlue from Ohio
My natural hair color is a medium brown to dark brown. I was not expecting my hair color to become as pitch black as it did. It really is just black slightly tinted blue that can only be seen in sunlight. I'm not happy with the result. The product did leave my hair feeling soft.
The color came just like the box
LiaN from Houston
My hair is damaged from bleaching and different experiments but it was a dark reddish blonde before this color and you can see the results in the pictures! I think the color is perfect. I have fine hair, and this color is actually almost identical to my natural hair color so it was a good pick.
It was horrible!

It did not work at all, and came out orange not burgundy. Never getting again!
Worst home color experience of my life!
Ketchup from Chicago
I have colored my own hair loads of times, and I've never been so disappointed in the results. My hair is medium brown, should be close to the middle panel on the box. My roots are black. Huge sections of my hair didn't process at all - they are still just brown. other areas look like the swatch. I am not a beginner at this and I'm scared to ever dye my own hair again.
Seriously the worst lol
Nopeduxudjifjf from undisclosed
I started with medium blonde/really pale brown hair. When I used this product it turned my hair ORANGE. I'm not talking about a brassy yellow. It literally darkened my hair and dyed it a natural redhead color.
Abbyprater from Oregon
I bought this hoping my hair would be a beautiful deep burgundy afterwards, but sadly it's nowhere near that. I have medium brown hair and after saturating my entire head and letting it process for 30 mins, I rinsed it and used the provided hair mask and then dried it to find the slightest tinge of red around my roots in the light and the rest of my hair the same color brown as before. I followed the instructions exactly. I'm very sad and disappointed that it didn't work. Waste of money...
