Allure editors reveal how to solve common concerns and glow, glow, glow.

Every year, we make big plans to better our minds, bodies and souls, but when we’re making resolutions we tend to forget about our largest organ — our skin. Getting your best complexion ever is easier than you think. Start by tweaking your skincare routine and adding products with heavy-hitting ingredients. Here’s how four Allure editors with different skin types will face 2018 head-on and with a total glow.

DRY SKIN

“My skin can get really dry — and then it’s ‘Hello, fine lines! ’ Wrinkles I didn’t even know I had start popping up. So I’ve found that packing tons of moisture into my skin is what keeps it looking fresh and young. I’m obsessed with Vichy Minéral 89 Fortifying and Hydrating Daily Skin Booster (it’s light but so hydrating) and Mario Badescu Facial Spray With Aloe, Chamomile and Lavender (it’s instant dewiness and smells amazing). The lines around my eyes need something stronger: Philosophy Ultimate Miracle Worker Eye Fix Fill & Firm plumps them (with moisture) but also firms and smooths (with retinol). And I’m wise enough to know that the best thing I can do for my skin is to wear sunscreen daily: La Roche-Posay Anthelios AOX Daily Antioxidant Serum with Sunscreen is an all-time fave.”

ACNE-PRONE SKIN

“If you’re anything like me, you’re probably a lizard masquerading as a human, which means your eyelids are fake and your skin is ceaselessly oily and prone to breaking out without warning. This year, I’m fighting back with a dedicated skin-care routine to banish oil once and for all. First, a beta hydroxy acid-boosted gel cleanser to clean pores. La Roche-Posay Effaclar Medicated Gel Cleanser is a favorite. Next, a beta hydroxy acid toner to rinse pores (but also restore some hydration), such as COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid. I’ll keep my moisturizer very basic (Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion is a go-to) and keep an extraction tool, like the Tweezerman No-Slip Skin Care Tool, on hand for anything the aforementioned excavation routine doesn’t get. The cherry on top of an unclogged pore: a sulfuric mask (that doesn’t smell sulfuric) for once-a-week T-zone maintenance. A great choice is Peter Thomas Roth Therapeutic Sulfur Acne Treatment Masque. All the better to keep up appearances.”

SENSITIVE SKIN

“Real talk: I have the most sensitive skin. OK, fine. I’m being dramatic, but my skin does tend to redden and sting after introducing it to a new product. And don’t even get me started on peels. (Ouch!) This year, I hope to tame my sensitivity with a few core skin-care products: a lightweight, antioxidant-packed facial mist from Dermalogica, Mario Badescu’s Enzyme Cleansing Gel, Peter Thomas Roth’s soothing Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Hydra-Gel Eye Patches and the never-harsh Murad Resurgence Retinol Youth Renewal Serum. Each product is packed with potent ingredients to hydrate (hyaluronic acid) and renew (retinol) — but never irritate — skin.”

COMBINATION SKIN

“I'm a big fan of essential oils and have experienced their benefits for my body and my hair. For the new year I’m going to take it one step further and incorporate oils into my everyday skin-care routine to strengthen, replenish and invigorate my skin. A big misconception about oils is that they cause breakouts, but fast-absorbing oils like rosehip oil, grapeseed oil or evening primrose oil, absorb quickly without causing blemishes (even if you have combination skin, like I do). To get that glow-from-within look without appearing shiny, I’m going to add a few drops of the Derma E Radiant Glow Face Oil to my daily moisturizer in the morning before I apply my makeup — a step that will be especially helpful during the dry winter months. Come nighttime, I'll opt for a nourishing oil (Mario Badescu Rose Hip Nourishing Oil is my current fave) right after I wash my face.”
