Most Helpful Positive Review I'm confused why this has bad review
I've been dying my hair for several years now (since I was 14) and this is the only product that lightens my dark brunette hair (somewhere between levels 2 and 3) to that perfect platinum. I usually dye my hair pastel colors. I feel like the people who are leaving bad reviews don't know what they're doing. If you get clumps just crush it up. Like, it's not that difficult. I have curly hair (a mixture of 2c and 3a) and it doesn't ruin my curl pattern. Curly hair tends to be dryer and more fragile than straight hair. Yes, your hair is going to fall out if you're putting 40 volume bleach on damaged hair (heat damage counts; if you blow-dry and flat iron your hair constantly you shouldn't bleach your hair at home; go to a professional; I have the same advice for people with chemical treatments and perms). Common sense people. 40 volume bleach is the strongest you can use and it shouldn't be left on for more than 30 minutes. You should never bleach your hair multiple times in a short span of time (Bleaching your hair again after you just bleached it isn't a good idea especially when it's 40 volume). Wait a couple of days between each session. And if you are bleaching your hair for the first time and don't know what you're doing educate yourself. Brad Mondo and Evangeline Demuro make great educational videos on how to do your hair. I suggest using a hair mask every night for a week before bleaching it so that your hair has enough moisture and is also strong enough to handle this. Also, for the love of GOD do not wash your hair before bleaching it. Your hair needs oil for bleach to do its job. The reason why this doesn't work for certain people is that they don't take into account the things I said. Don't use this on damaged hair, don't wash your hair, don't do this multiple times in one day and don't leave it on for a long time. I'll put a picture in of my hair rn so you can see how dark my roots compare to how light the colored parts are and the texture of my hair.

I wanted to use this product to bleach my entire head. First problem is that the instructions are confusing. You're supposed to use the entire packet of powder, but only half of the developer? WHAT DO I DO WITH THE REST OF THE DEVELOPER??? PLUS the bottle isn't freaking see through so you can't even be sure about how much you've poured out. IT DOESNT MATTER IF YOU HAVE A MEASURING LINE IF YOU CANT SEE THE PRODUCT THROUGH THE BOTTLE!! Soon after I began applying the product I quickly realized There wasn't going to be even CLOSE to enough product. I have thick hair but it's a PIXIE CUT. I quickly washed it out to buy some more and just as a note, the areas that did have bleach were being bleached VERY unevenly. I was going to buy some more but they were out at my Ulta so I bought Manic Panic's bleach kit instead. SO MUCH BETTER!! Save your money. Use Manic Panic's kit.

Most negative reviews said it doesn't mix well or there's not enough to cover all of their hair. It doesn't mix the best, but it was creamy enough to apply evenly. I was only touching up my roots, so personally I did have enough product. Of course the result is not what's on the box because it's a box dye. It comes out a little brassy but nothing major to where a toner shampoo can't fix.
Does not mix well
Unhappy from California
The powder was clumpy and not mixable! I had purple chunks in my mixing bowl after mixing for SEVERAL minutes. Finally gave up and tried using the bleach and while it did lighten my hair it was gross and clumpy! 0/10 would not recommend 😒

This is my second attempt to strip my hair. The previous day I used color oops and it only lightened slightly, I'm trying to go from dark brown to light brown. I purchased this product in hopes that it would strip my hair. The bleach powder was in hard clumps instead of powder form, I mixed and mixed it with the developer and applied it the best that I could. Needless to say there is blue bleach clumps All over my bathroom floor, sink, counters. Etc. It is a total mess. It did end up lightening my hair in some parts 30 mins later though but it's not even because I couldn't get enough powder & developer to mix. I just have to dye my hair tomorrow and hope for the best b/c I'm not bleaching again.
Lumpy and uneven
Kelley from Pennsylvania
I got this to bleach my hair a bit lighter to put some fun color over top. The bleach powder was lumpy and didn't incorporate smoothly into the activator. This led to the application being uneven, and making a huge mess of bleach chunks on my floor. I'll never be buying this again and regret spending my money on it
Lightening brown hair

This was my first time using this product and a lightening product and I have to say I was impressed. I worked well and didn't irritate me at all.

I used this to do a balayage on my hair before dying it with their alpine green hair color. IT IS AWESOME! It did not ruin my hair and worked so quickly. I would highly recommend this kit!
Dark hair no problem

Loved it! Started lightening after a few mins! It was lighter then I thought and loved it!
You can control the outcome.

I have hair that can become weak easily. As an African woman I can control the process better than a hair dye without breaking my hair.
Best bleach kit I've ever used

Smell wasn't strong, didn't burn my hair. I'll use again!
Great product, terrible gloves.
Nikki from Seattle
The bleach wasn't bad. Prepare to get your own container for the bleach and gloves. The gloves are paper thin and brittle. Otherwise, did a great job.

It lightened my hair fast! I will use and recommend this product to all my fellow hair people lol. It wasn't strong smelling, it didn't burn my hair, and it was so quick. I've used so many kinds of bleach. I will use this from now on.
Did not work well at all!

I will not use this bleach kit again. First of all, the bleach powder did not mix well with the developer no matter how much I stirred. Second, it did not bleach my daughter's dark brown hair evenly and I know I used plenty of product on each part of her hair and allowed it to set an ample amount of time. Maybe it works well for lighter hair.
Mireya from Longmont,Co
The product overall was great I would recommend it if you want ombré I would recommend it if you are going to dye your whole head.
I would use this again
Bakgirl from SD
This was a great kit to quickly lighten my daughter's hair. The product worked quickly and did exactly as it stated. I wish I had been more practiced in my application as I didn't go quite fast enough and I ran out of it at the end. Next time, two boxes and move quickly.
does its job
Batgirl from NC
I used this on virgin black Asian hair and it lightened to a pale gold. Came with sponges and no where in the directions did it say what they were for--I didn't need/use them. This product did it's job, but there was more developer than bleach powder, so it would've been nice to be given the exact amounts to just mix together so I could throw everything away at the end.
Life saver , especially during quarantine!

If you can spend time complaining about how you used it wrong then you can take the time to read the box xoxo

This lifted my hair quite a bit more than I anticipated with a single bleaching. Worked great for dying my hair bright pink from a level 5 brunette.
had to buy a different product
Nicole from South Dakota
I've been bleaching my hair for 3 years now and decided to use this since I could use my Ulta card and points. It seems like the proportions are wrong because this is really thin, it's almost watery. couldn't apply properly because it's so thin. Came out patchy.
Have not will not

Hello professional hair stylist. Not even in the salon would I use or even suggest using 40 Vol developer. 40 Vol is a major damaging, hair will melt, hair will fall out, hair will break, like I cannot believe they're selling this OTC disaster waiting to happen. The only time a stylist uses 40 Vol is in some extreme circumstance. Like over 75% gray hair that won't take color, level 1 black hair wanting to go beyond 5 levels lighter. And even in those situations the stylist would be checking the integrity of the hair every few minutes. I cannot believe this is being sold for at home use. This isn't even the first hair lightening kit for at home use I've seen on Ulta's site with 40 Vol. Good luck to whomever decides to use this. You'll be paying for it with the integrity of your hair and the trips you'll be taking to the salon for color correction.
One of the Best Kits I've Used!
sdanielle from Pasadena, CA
I used this kit to lighten my bangs. The directions are easy to follow and the products are easy to use. I would recommend crushing up the powder a bit before adding the developer, as it is a bit chunky at some points. However, this worked wonders on my black hair! 30 vol just doesn't get my hair as light as I want, and this worked great to remove a previous dye, and lift a couple shades. Would recommend!
Storm from Menifee CA
The powder bleach was so incredibly clumpy, I had to take plastic fork to break it apart which was difficult. I have pink hair & I have to say just between the clumping powder which leaves your hair patchy. You do not want for bleaching, but 40 developer is also really strong. I think 30 is best.

It bleached my hair so patchy

This worked for what I was doing. I was bleaching my bangs and some framing strands. They were a grass green color already and this bleach brought them to a warm blonde. I was able to go hot pink.
Shannon from Southbury
I've used many different bleaches and this is by far my favorite because it leaves the hair soft even for me I've bleached my head ~12x in the past two years and I dye it with colors all the time. This lifted my box dye brown hair very nicely. I've had no issues with this product and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a bleach that is good on both virgin and processed hair.
