Most Helpful Positive Review My favorite primer I have oily lids and could never wear shadow until I discovered UDPP many years ago, but something changed, I think in me, and now, no primer keeps shadow on my lid without an oil crease in the center. So every time I see something new, I give it a try. This one works as well as the UDPP on me but I like it better because it also doubles as an under eye concealer.
With this product, I apply it all over the lid and under the eye with my ring finger and I like the coverage it gives me and it makes a nice base for the eye shadow. The luxe jar is also a nice touch.
Most Helpful Critical Review Liked the old product better I used Tarte's eye primer for years. it was similar to Too Faced Shadow Insurance but I liked it slightly better. When I went to pick up more, I found out they discontinued the old one and came out with this one. It's way more difficult to spread onto the eyelids as it's like a very thick paste rather than a lotion like the old product. performance-wise I had a lot of fading and creasing. I have really oily eyelids though so that's not uncommon for most primers.

Sadly my eye makeup would look better using nothing than to use this stuff. My eye makeup has never creased more since I started using this stuff. Ive noticed my eye makeup has looked really bad since I started testing out and using this recently to see if I liked it or not. Better off using nothing or cheap concealer to prime in my opinion. Very hard texture that doesn't warm up or spread well which causes you to have to tug at your eyelids which I don't enjoy. Really sad cuz I love Tarte as a brand (their blushes are amazing!) so I had high hopes but this primer is really really really crumby and a waste of money. I'm glad I used my points to buy it and not my actual money so it isn't a total waste. ):
Hard to apply 2
Katie from Ca
It doesn't apply to the lid very well.
I would not recommend 2

I usually like Tarte products, but this one is not good. The product in the jar is very firm like thick putty. I tried warming it in my hand to make it spread better. It took way too much pulling on my eyelid to spread it evenly.
The only eye base that works for me 5
Jen from Inland Empire, CA
The perfect base for my eye shadow. It's creamy & smooth, goes on easy, not too watery, not too thick. Neutral color so it doesn't affect the color of my eye shadow.
Not for everyone 1

I had creases in my eyeshadow and my eyeliner also ran. Not the lock I was hoping for.
Sunset eyes here I come! 5
Dani from Rosamond, Ca
I'm not great at make up. But I got this and wow I was impressed. I was able to create this sunset eyeshadow look with eyeshadows I've used before. But never with this level of success. I'm extremely happy with this product.
great primer 5
Scarlett from Carthage
love that it looks almost like a concelor but holds shadow in place like an eye primer !
Not very good 2
Jenny from NYC
I was hoping that this would be perfect (color correcting and preventing oiliness). This primer does a little bit of each, but doesn't do either perfectly. It conceals my veins a bit, but they're still visible. It makes my eyelids a bit less oily; I didn't have any major creasing, but I still had those mascara dots (because of the break through oil) on my brow bone.
Useless 1

This does not work at all. Biggest disappointment.
I would buy this product again 5
Luna from Glendale
I bought this out of curiosity because I have very oily eyelids and I don't like having to add eye shadow over primer every time, don't have time to take much time prepping to put make up on. Eyelid makeup stayed on longer with this!!! Pleasantly surprised! Plus love the little glass jar it comes in :)

I love Tarte products. After Ulta quit carrying the brand of eyeshadow primer I always use I decided to try this. As soon as I opened it I knew it wasn't going to work, but went ahead and gave it a chance. This is a TOTAL MISS for me. It's dry and hard to get out of the container. It's dries the eyeshadow when it's on and is rough on my eyelid. Luckily I found the brand I love at a different place. I'm either throwing out this Lid Lock or passing it on to someone else.
Just what I had hoped it would be 4

Definitely loving this product.
Didn't work 1
Little Red from WA
Didn't keep my eyeliner from creasing. I don't wear eyeshadow, but might try it with that and see how it goes. Not sure if I'll buy this again.
Not a good primer for eyeshadow 1
Casey from Philadelphia
This is terrible - literally does nothing and makes my eyeshadow look worse. Hard to apply as well.
Dry. It's ok 3
Smiley from New Jersey
This stuff is really dry. Hard to put on. Holds the eyeshadow on my eyes well though and gives me a nice base.
Grear eyelid primer 4
Michelle from Texas
I first tried this product after running out of mac primer and this was on sale. This tarte lid primer is a lot more dry than the mac primer but that is what makes it great! If you have really oily skin and eyelids in particular, this is by far the best to keep your eye makeup on all day! I apply my mac or other undereye concealer and then a little of this tarte lid lock on top by blending with my fingers, then start applying the rest of my eye makeup. Once in a while I will forget to apply this lid lock and completely notice my eyeshadow NOT last even half a day! Cannot be without this lid lock!!
Patchy and dry 2
Sam from Denver, Co.
If you have any oil or lotion or ANYTHING on your lids, this wont spread out nicely for you. It clumps and does not blend well.
not a fan 2
Kate from Columbus, Ohio
I am a HUGE fan of Tarte in general, but I really don't love this primer. It's so dense and dry, terrible to apply, and doesn't really seem to work. I usually apply lid primer with my hands and it's actually painful to try to work it into my eye lids. Hopefully I just got a bad batch but I might be taking this back.
No Go 1

Tried this primer and had creases in my eye shadow a few hours later.
worst primer I have ever used 1
Elaine from Margate Fl
I've used alot of primers but this one is the worst. I only like that it comes in a tub instead of a tube but it is hard to use and by the end of the day the eyeshadow has turned a different color than when it was put on in the morning

Would never buy again

Anita from Virginia Beach
I was really excited to try this, but it's so far made all my eyeshadow crease. Will be looking for a new base.
Feels too heavy on and doesn't wash off easily 1
LadyMystica from Cupertino, CA
The texture is just too dense and sticky for me. I appreciated the coverage but not at the expense of how it feels on -- extremely heavy.
Best primer for oily lids!! 5
Blitzen from Old Orchard Beach, ME
I have tried a slew of eye primers bc my eyelids get greasy as the day progresses. I use my finger to apply and no brush and extend it out also if I'm doing wings. Its a dryer consistency but mine doesn't flake like some reviews. The tester at the store is dryer bc it is constantly opened and closed all day. Due to the dryer consistency compared to a tube like urban decay, I feel like it absorbs the oil but I use urban decay as a second fav. I'd definitely recommend as it's my #1!
Terrible 3
SunkissedGirl from California
Do not purchase!!! This does absolutely nothing for your eyelids or eyeshadow. It also feels horrible on and it's super rough and sticky.
