Most Helpful Positive Review Sunscreen has come a LONG way! I'm thrilled that I have found a sunscreen that is everything I need and want it to be! Dermalogica Invisible Physical Defense SPF30 is far from the sunblock we slathered on as kids, as this formula is not only a SPF, but a blue light protector and great for your skin!
The squeeze tube (containing 1.7fl.oz of product) is super easy to use. The top flips shut protecting from accidental spills and leaks. The scent is ever so light. I smell hints of citrus giving this formula a very fresh smell that fades once it's on the skin.
The product texture is very pleasant. I was nervous when I read the main ingredient was Zinc Oxide, as I know that can be grainy and greasy, not to mention the hideous, ghastly white shadow (I'll get to that in a moment). This formula is unbelievably smooth. It is thick and creamy. You really feel the protection when it's on your skin. I was also very surprised when I started working this into my skin as it is very easy to blend. I don't have to pull or tug my skin to get this moved into place, and I don't have to hurry as it doesn't dry instantly. I'm able to get a nice, even layer on my skin with no issues. It absorbs very well into the skin. Your left with a soft, smooth and moisturized finish with absolutely no greasiness! Another thing this formual won't give you is that hideous, ghastly white hue on your skin. It blends and absorbs so well that it's impossible to see your even wearing sunscreen! Dermalogica has made me rethink everything I thought about Zinc Oxide!
I would say that besides protecting your skin from harmful rays and blue light, this formula also keeps your skin hydrated, supple and smooth. I haven't experienced a single pimple or other blockage since using this formula daily. (We have been outside every single day of this quarantine!) There have been many days I have just worn the product with no makeup and honestly, I feel like it makes my skin appear smoother than other SPFs or moisturizers do. I love how this formula feels and looks under makeup too! My makeup blends so easily on my skin, there is no pilling or greasiness. It also doesn't feel heavy or cakey at all.
I'll be totally honest, I do not like makeup with SPF added. I have never used one that didn't make my skin feel heavy or like I was wearing a mask. Before finding Dermalogica Invisible Physical Defense SPF30, I was either gastly white or super greasy. All that is different now because of this formula! It is the easiest, most effective, skin friendly SPF I have ever used. I literally have no excuses now to not be fully protected from the sun and my phone/computer screens!
I've always been a big fan of Dermalogica, as I feel the products are above and beyond, but this formula really surprised me! It is on a whole new level of skin protection, as it's no longer a heavy, greasy, ugly and messy hastle, rather a simple and comfortable addition to any skincare routine! I no longer forget or dread putting on my sunscreen!
Thank you Dermalogica for making an amazing sunscreen! You have made me (someone who dreaded putting on SPF) really enjoy and look forward to using SPF!
On that note, I'm ready to apply and get outside!
Most Helpful Critical Review Neutrogena Sheer Zinc triple the price When they tell you that non-nano zinc oxide at 20% concentration doesn't produce white cast, they are either Snow White or they don't use enough sunscreen for proper protection. Bottom line: this Dermalogica Invisible Physical Sunscreen SPF30 is NOT INVISIBLE on those of us with skin darker than light/white when used in proper amount (minimum 1/4 tsp for face+neck to achieve declared SPF).
My skin is light to light-medium neutral-yellow, tans easily, and is combination normal to oily.
On a daily basis, I only wear physical sunscreen and powder. What I look for in a sunscreen is minimal white cast, and the powder is to take away the shine from the sunscreen. I use minimum of 1/4 tsp of sunscreen, and yes, I measure it out with a measuring spoon.
Even though I had been skeptical of its claims, I was still excited to try Dermalogica Invisible Physical Sunscreen SPF 30. ......Only to find out that it's pretty much like Neutrogena Sheer Zinc; both are similar in zinc oxide content, in thick-ish texture, in greasy feel, and in making my skin white. The only difference is that Dermalogica is much more expensive and smells better (from lavender oil and such, which can irritate sensitive skin).
Granted, the white cast and thickness from this sunscreen are about half that from Neutrogena Sheer Zinc, but it's also more than 3 times the price. And at this price, my face still feels suffocated and so greasy-shiny that even after copious amount of powder I still look like a disco ball.
In itself, Dermalogica Invisible Physical Sunscreen SPF30 is a fine sunscreen; however, I can only give it 2 stars because the actual product's performance is wildly different from its claims.

Nice product but beware of white cast 3

I use this sunscreen everyday and reapply after every two hours as advised. I was using a chemical sunscreen prior to this and experienced some irritation due to the formulation so I decided to switch to a physical sunscreen. I noticed that this product was lot more gentle on my skin and actually had a soothing effect. My skin really likes the formulation and I don't find it too thick like other physical sunscreens with zinc oxide. I knocked off stars because as a person with a deeper complexion, when using this product with the proper dosage of sunscreen (two-finger approach), it is not invisible as it claims, takes a very long time to blend and leaves behind a cast. I've continued to use this because it is a very expensive product (this is definitely not the best value for your money and another reason why I took a star off) and due to Covid-19 I usually have a mask on when I'm outdoors so it isn't as noticeable. In the end, I would recommend this product but with a heavy disclaimer. I would be more enthusiastic about this product if Dermalogica came out with a value size or a tinted version.
Very much enjoying the product 5
Ryan D from New York
I was recommended this product and it did not disappoint. Light weight, non greasy product. I has an almost semi matte finish and the product goes very well under your foundation, but you do have to wait until the product dissolves into your skin before applying your primer. Very good foe sensitive skin.
Garbage 1
msmmm from Metro-Detroit
applied liberally to face 20 minutes before sun exposure. 30 minutes into sun exposure, I'm burning. What good was this? Tried again the next day and got burned within the hour. Had a friend try it and she said it did nothing as well. Complete waste of money for a sunscreen. And didn't even moisturize that well either - went right in the garbage with ¾ left in the tube.
Lightweight .... like a moisturizer 5

I use this when I go out on the boat for my face .... not sticky or greasy and does its job!
Invisible Physical OFFENSE 1
Sunscreen Optimist from Washington
If you are a person of color with sensitive skin this product is not for you. Initial application with the typical sunscreen (blue/purple) hue that does fade after an hour or so but what remains is a skin irritant layer of OFFENSE that sits on top of your face. If applying moisturizer prior to application your skin feels weigh down with goop that is sticky to the touch, plus hot weather and you'll be searching for your nearest waterhole to rinse it off. I've been trying this product since April 2020 and I consistently end up with dry patches and breakouts.
I wanted to love it 2
Jess from Sc
I was extremely hopeful as I loved the weightless feel and non sticky residue feeling but sadly I Developed severe eyelid dermatitis. I kept doing try so and error and this product was the only thing I could single out.
Dermalogica is the best 5
Iris from Orlando
Love using this sunscreen, non-oily, non-drying, no white residue. Recommend!! Especially if you have super sensitive skin!
Nice and light 5

This was perfect. Did what it should!
I would not necessarily buy it again. 3

I didn't really like this sunscreen because it did feel pretty thick but then again a moisturizer spf can only be so light. It still left a white residue behind and I'm pretty light skinned so I wasn't happy with that. It also flaked when I didn't rub it in all the way so maybe the trick is to rub in completely (for a while I may add). I prefer the prisma protect I just wasn't pleased with the results for the money.
Perfect Physical Sunscreen! 4
Bel Pepper from San Jose, CA
Exactly what I needed, a physical sunscreen that didn't make me break out, or leave my skin feeling dry by the end of the day. It also genuinely doesnt leave a white cast on me like other mineral sunscreens I've tried, but then again I'm on the lighter medium skintone side (think of Fenty #320 or NARS "Biscuit"), so I can't say for sure if this won't leave a cast on deeper melanin beauties.
It's quite a bit on the expensive side, but I think it's well worth it.
Great SPF for under makeup 4
tiffanysreviews from Tucson, AZ
The Dermalogica Invisible Defense SPF is the best I've found for using under makeup. It doesn't pull up underneath foundation or bb cream. It's a great physical sunscreen option.
Product Flakes 3
Chante from Fort Hood, Texas
In the beginning I really liked this spf but then it started to peel on my skin when used with my other skin products. Even when I use it by itself. Had really high hopes for this sunscreen but I guess it's just not for my skin
1 of 2 great moisturizer's from here! 5

I got my order today and was super excited to try this product. A little squeeze goes a long way btw. This feels lightweight, silky, and comfortable on my skin. Smells great and I chose to buy b/c my peter Thomas Roth moisturizer is to thick for my skin. I love Dermalogica bc it's vegan and the products are always amazing!!
10/10 5
Raquel from Illinois
I loveeeee this sunscreen! It is by far the best one I've used for my oily skin. It really surprised me, it didn't leave my skin greasy at all it almost seems as if it were a bit matte still with a nice glow though. It doesn't have that tint like others do it's just perfect. I was scared because my skin is super sensitive but this didn't make me breakout either! Would reccomend it to those with sensitive skin.
Works well and disappears on skin. 4

Invisible physical defense spf 30 works well. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars, is the odor. Although, it does dissipate over time.
Great Mineral Sunscreen 4
Jen from Los Angeles
My Dermalogica Invisible Physical Defense SPF30 sunscreen is interesting. I like the scent of it and I like that it's less fragrant than other sunscreens. It's also a mineral sunscreen so it took a bit to rub it in to get it to be invisible but hey, who doesn't need a self massage every now and then? Seriously though, I really like this sunscreen.
Great sunscreen 5

This is a light weight sunscreen and it blend easily and layer under my makeup great. It has green tea, mushroom complex and non nano zinc oxide in it that are great in protecting your skin. Average Sunscreen 3
SAS from Dallas, TX
This is average. I am not sure that I would pay the normal price when I can get something comparable at the drug store for less money.

I wanted to try this because I live in Texas and the temperature varies. You need protection to walk outside and handle errands, even it is just to walk to the mailbox. . I had no issues with the product.
Super impressed 5
Christina from Boston
I wasn't sure how I would feel about a sunscreen with "physical" defense, though I know that it's the best way to protect myself against the sun. The Dermalogica Invisible Physical Defense was a pleasant surprise all around though! The sunscreen went on smoothly without feeling thick or greasy and it easily absorbed into my skin without leaving any residue – better than most traditional sunscreens, honestly. It has a light scent but it's more fresh and grassy than chemical, so I don't mind it. This sunscreen is lightweight enough that I can use it on my face between moisturizer and makeup, which is probably how I'll use it most often. I will definitely be purchasing again once I use up my current tube.
Great for your skin! 4
Cris from Flory
This has a very lovely smell to it. Unfortunately I haven't been able to test the sunscreen on it (been indoors since March) but have used it as a moisturizer. I'm very happy that it doesn't leave that lingering white residue from other sunscreens. Overall it's a great moisturizer and I'm impressed with it. I'm sure it makes a great sunscreen protector too.
