Most Helpful Positive Review I've been thoroughly enjoying this! Ello curlies! Look at me being all friendly lol. I have thick, coarse coils with all different textures throughout my head. Finding an oil treatment that actually penetrates my strands, softens them and visibly leaves a shine can be a hassle. Not all oil treatments are created equal! And I'm not about that mixing oils together life you can miss me with that. I want to say my have is in the type 4 range, but I honestly don't know nor do I try too. I just know is moisture can be hard to come by, it's like 7C in there. Then Curlsmith walks into my life and makes me question why I haven't been using this from the start. First off I love the innovation of this product. Solid to oil? Excuse me? This comes out as a thick, solid structure that turns into oil while applying. When the heat from my scalp gets to it the magic happens. It's melts down and all my strands are coated. Now I make my own product rules, quite a few times have I ignored that "wash out the following morning" business. Every time I've done it my hair was shiny, moisturized and I ALWAYS get compliments on how good my hair smells. The times I've washed it out my shed hairs come out with ease, my coils pop, and the shine left behind is phenomenal. If I'm really feeling lazy or just don't have the time to get the full spa treat I apply a pump of two to my ends and swoop into a low bun. When I undo my bun it's like I've done the greenhouse method! My coils are intact, they're smooth and primed for styling. Using this in conjunction with my other products, dare this product junkie to say that's I've found my holy grail oil treatment... I have a full shoulder length bob all around and two scoops is good per quarter section. I honestly can go on about this particular product all day, but I don't want to be redundant or repeat myself, I hate that. I genuinely hope I'm able to help someone who many be on the fence about putting it in their cart like I was. Just go head and do it
Most Helpful Critical Review 🤷🏻♀️ The verdict is still out. Only used twice. The first time applyed to dry hair. The directions say little is more, so i was mindful to how much i was putting in my hair. Let it sit over night n washed hair the nxt morning. The results seemed ok. The second time i used on damp hair thinking the product would spread more thru hair and easier , let sit over night n washed hair nxt morning.. the resutls.., not so great. I will try it again but with more product. I feel the end outcome will result in a pass if it cannot condition the middle section of my hair where it is the dryest. I have used the soufflé as a styling aid and loved the results but the smell was over baring so had to return. I do however continue to use the condition wash.

The ingredients in this product are top-notch and it smells amazing! I follow the directions and comb this through my 3c-4a curls and make 6 twists, and cover with a plastic cap overnight. My hair feels so good before AND after shampooing. I did not give it 5 stars because of the expensive price. I only buy this when there's a Black Friday sale or when using my Ulta points.
Love this product! 5

I love this product! I get anxious when the jar is getting empty. My hair had been more cooperative since I've been using it. You take a dollop and rub it in you hands and it melts, then you can apply to your hair. I like to concentrate it on the ends. I put my hair in a shower cap over night then shower in the morning. My hair has never been softer or healthy looking.
Greasy and hard to use 2
Cindy from Orlando, FL
I have 3b/3c type hair. I thought this might be a good product for me since I prefer heavier products for my hair, and definition over volume. To use this product, you scoop some out and spread it between your palms to warm it up and turn it into oil. Every time I apply it, my hair ends up feeling waxy. On dry hair, it helps with frizz, but still leaves me feeling waxy and greasy. On wet hair, it just makes my hair feel gross and like I need to wash it again. I've tried using less, I've tried using more. Now let's try returning it.
Resurrected my curls 5

My hair was over processed by a salon. It looked fried, parched, and was breaking off. I bought this based on the reviews, and researching each ingredient to ensure it would be a heavy hydration. I have used it 3 times in the past week, and I've seen a HUGE shift in my hair's hydration. When I left the salon, my hair was stringy and wouldn't curl. Now, my curl pattern is coming back!
Amazingness!! 5

I had fineish but curly hair (3A type) that I've styled for years leaving it fizzy and meh looking when air-dried. I decided at the beginning of quarantine that I would try to leave my hair natural and boy was it a struggle leaving it alone! But my curls started coming back and with the help of this serum the night before my wash days my hair is Super moisturized and not frizzy!
The smell is amazing and my hair is so soft and smooth when I let it air-dry. I will say that I tried to use this in my hair routine after washing and did find it weighed it down so I only use it as an over night treatment.
This stuff is GOLD! 5

I'm 53. My curls started losing shape on the outermost layer about 15 years ago. it also went flat in a few spots, and lost body and volume. I had tried so many products over the years, and they didn't it, so I ended up straightening it most of the time. I caused a lot of damage, especially when I began lightening and highlighting it as I got more gray. coronavirus lockdown made it ridiculous to spend time styling it, so I tried to live my hair, but most of the body, volume, and curl was underneath, and my hair was sloppy and frizzy where people could see. I would roll and twist it, pinning the rolls in place, trying to make it look like it used to. I have lost my job,, so interviewing online called for action. Last week, I actually went to Ulta to look into buying a curling wand. I did,, and then I could see the damage coming back quickly. I went back to Ulta and someone working there recommended this brand when I described my frustrations with the brands I had tried.
Another problem, which I didn't plan on fixing was the chemically scented product that set off my allergies and made me miserable.
I got three Curlsmith products: the double cream conditioner, the in shower style fixer, and this intensive treatment serum. I slept with the serum on, covered by a plastic hair dye cap. Then I washed and used the double cream deep quencher, followed by a light application of the serum, and then the in shower style fixer.
I WISH I could attach the picture I just took after using these products for the first time. My hair looks AMAZING! I have all the body, volume, and curl I had when I was young.
the smell 3

it feels like I'm rubbing spark plug lubricant on my hair... I did not like it all.. and the smell is horrid
Amazing!! 5

I've tried so many products and this product is absolutely amazing! My hair is no longer dry. I use to have to add eco styler gel to my twist out for definition. Decided to just only try this product on my twist out and it was better than the eco styler and without the hard, dryness that comes with it. Love this customer for life!

First things first- I have high porosity, medium density, coarse, damaged hair. For this product a little and I mean a LITTLE goes a long way. Once you get to know this and see how your hair likes it, it's pretty much a godsend. My primary use for this is as a finishing product. I literally swipe my fingers over the top and twist out the gel cast (I have like 2inches of hair scrunching doesn't work). This breaks the cast, defrizzes, adds extra moisture, and defines the ends. I twist from root to tip with just one swipe of product for each curl chunk. I've hardly even dented it and the dent is from when I use it as an overnight treatment. I use it on dry to slightly damp hair because this is a solid oil essentially. I do a similar application of twisting it through the hair, plastic cap then bonnet, and go to bed. My hair is soft and happy and is able to retain moisture a lot better using this in my opinion. I had used a sale and a hefty amount of points on this and personally I'd wait for some form of applicable discount, but i will literally never run out of this product. And that's good because it's almost $40 and I'm hooked 😅

Oh my gosh. I was looking for something to hydrate my hair and tame frizz but this was not it I started using it and it was way too greasy then I don't know how it happened but it dried out my hair to the point that my stylist asked me what I did to myself. In my 25 years of trying to style curly hair my hair has never been so damaged!!! I will never use these products in my hair again!!!
Not that versatile 3
Curly hair from Michigan
If used all over your hair, like a traditional serum, it does feel heavy and greasy. It's not really an everyday serum, for me. I can see it being used to touch up hairs, on the tips or roots only, and as a mask. Finally, I found it hard to incorporate into my hair even after warming it up in my hands. It's super sticky.

Was definitely surprised by how much I fell in love with this product! A little bit goes a long way and its phenomenal! Hair was a lot more moisturized than when I was using other treatments. Also love the ingredients in this as its actual ingredients I can read!

I've been using CurlSmith products for about a year and was so excited to see they've come to Ulta - I'm going to stop and replenish on the way home tonight. My hair is a 3A, but tends to run on the drier side. Not the driest it's ever been as it's relatively healthy (as opposed to the one time I decided to go platinum haha) but still on the drier side. I use either this or the oil in cream (generally not both today) and my curls look like, plump and hydrated! It is the only product that has every been able to achieve these results for me!
LOVE!! 4
Debbie from Tampa, FL
I LOVE this stuff! It keeps my ends healthy especially during those times where I have to go a little bit longer without washing. I notice my hair is much softer after washing. I use it to refresh day 3 - day 4 hair or as an overnight mask before washing out.
I would caution people with low porosity hair or curl types looser than mine. This "serum" is very heavy and hard to distribute, so just be mindful of what your hair actually needs. My hair is so porous it absorbs every bit of hydration and moisture I put in to it so this works for me.
Amazing 5
Stina from NJ
Seriously can see it working when I scrunch it into day 2/3 hair. It makes my ends less frizzy. Too much and I need to wear an updo, but my curl bun is like POPPIN. I def recommend taking a bit and putting on end days before your planes scalp clarifying wash day. It's almost like an overnight hot oil treatment for your ends.
amazing if used properly 5

this is like the best pre shampoo mask type product ever!! it does have several ways to use it, but if your looking for something to heal damage hair and bring shine and softness back to your head than the best way to use it is like this, on unwashed hair use a spray bottle with water to dampen the hair, next do 1 small section at a time- grab about a dime size of product per section, really work it in then comb through, then precede to next section (small sections!!) once it's all in use a wide tooth comb to go through the hair (oh btw I use a small tooth comb in each section to make sure product is distributed evenly) than put you hair in a bun or clip and sleep in it. leave it in for at least 8 hours than you can shampoo (you can use a clarifying shampoo here if it's a gentle one than use a good deep conditioner/mask and then you are good to go!!! if your hair is not really dry or damaged than this isn't the product for you. I do not have curly hair so I can not comment on the other ways to use it. but this stuff is amazing!!
Perfect for Damaged Hair 5
yule from Georgia
I thought since I had thin hair oil or gel would weigh it down and make it gross. I went by the jar instructions (and amount to use) and my hair was a thousand times better after the next days shampoo. Its never felt this good, and I dye my hair every other month so you can imagine how the ends feel. This saved it- I'm completely addicted and it smells wonderful. Not messy at all. I put it on before bed and my sheets and pillow haven't shown a single stain or anything, but obviously try with a towel or hair up if you're worried.
Some Second Chances are Worth It 5
lHill from Cleveland, OH
Initially, when I tried this product, I didn't like it. Part of the reason I didn't like the product was because I was using it incorrectly. After reading how to use it, I decided to give it a second chance.
I really like it, I don't like many of the oils that are suggested for use with natural hair because they just sit on my hair. I use this in the mornings to fluff out, finger detangle, and style throughout the week.
Magical! 5

This product is a miracle in a jar! No more frizzy hair days. I have tried many products and this is the only one that works for me.
Way too greasy!! 1
Vonnie from Portland, OR
The only good thing I can say about this product is that a little goes a long way. Otherwise, it was very greasy and did nothing for my hair no matter how little I used. It is solid so you have to put some in your hand rub your them together to liquify it. My hair is on the dry side so I thought it would soak this product right up. Nope. Just left my hair a greasy mess. Would recommend for 4a-c curlies, or it might be a good serum or grease to use when doing braids if you wanted to spend the money.
