Most Helpful Positive Review Not even a question- GET THIS! I didn't realize how much I needed this until I used it. Wow!
The primer is about my skin tone (not sure if the picture really shows it, but I'm very fair). It's lightweight, but can make the shadow look cakey if you don't spread it evenly over your lid. I wanted to show just how effective this thing was. I made a (admittedly terrible) swatch in the picture below;
I used a non-NYX shadow in the picture. The first swatch shows the pigment of the color without the primer.Next is just the primer on my skin, and the last is the shadow used on top of the primer. You can see just how awesome this primer is. Definitely worth it!
Most Helpful Critical Review Not for people that have oily lids!!!! I apply this to my lid and let it dry frist then apply my eye shadow and for me I have really oily lids so after 2 hours of applying this primer it makes my eye shadow crease. I would have to buy something else that can keep my eye shadow from creasing or make my own. I would recommend this for people that has dry lids not with oily lids. I try the skintone eye primer by NYX next time and see how that goes.

It definitely makes eyeshadows more visible. But no more than milani, elf etc. And it doesn't stand up to primer potion in Eden. I don't like that it doesn't really dry down so I feel like it makes eyeshadows patchy in the places the wet area grabs the eyeshadow. If you are someone who uses powder on your eyes beforehand you may like this.

I didn't realize it was sparkle when I ordered online. But once dry and even with light colors it does not show up. It does come out watery/streaky, but I found if I put it on and then use my finger to pat it around it drys even. So far it's held up well while using from bold, light to blended shadows. For me making sure to evenly pat it on and wait a min after gave me the perfect application for half the cost of some others I've used.
It helps my eyeshadow stay on longer 5

I use as a primer for my eyeshadow. It has some grip to it without feeling sticky. A thin layer is all you need. Goes on easily and doesn't irritate.
I won't buy this again 3

I apply to my eyelid before applying eyeshadow. So the pigment (color) goes on like it looks in the palette.
Perfect and lasting! 5

I have pretty oily skin, so most eye primers inevitably end up creasing on my by the end of the day. Not this one. It hold everything in place, and even acts as a tacky base for glitters and pigments. It's strong enough to keep things in place but still let's you blend shadow on top without even setting it. This stuff is magic.
Just put water on your eyes, same thing 1

I had so much hope for the NYX HD Eye Shadow Base but I was so let down! The product is tinted, but it comes out watery like it was accidentally dropped in a puddle with the lid off. Even after 2-3 layers which you should never need with eyeshadow primer, the coverage was a chalky thin layer. Then when it was time to remove it, all the deodarant soap, micellar water, etc. in the world still required a loofah sponge to get it all the way off. Save your money! I recommend J.CAT All About That Base Primer in Nude instead.
no complaints 5

it doesn't crease. holds shadows on well. I will continue buying this.
Great value that works. 5

I have been using this eyeshadow primer for years. It works great and a little goes a long way. I tried some of the higher priced brands and found this works better.
Hot gangsta mess 1

I expected better because I love the NYX products, but this is a chalky, streaky waste of money. It helps if you apply with the wand and then spread on your eyelid with your fingertip, but it dries super chalky, and was visible under my beige shadow.

too thick, doesn't melt onto your skin or prevent creasing. seemed to make shadows harder to blend too. you would definitely need a neutral base coat of eyeshadow before adding pigment
BROKEN 1

I went to pick this up and they gave me a broken one. It started leaking. Will be returning.
I never want to use anything else 5

I have deep-set eyes and most primers melt down on me. This stuff holds shadows in place ALL day or night. It doesn't move and best of all, it doesn't add texture. I have tried nearly every expensive primer on the market and this blows them all away.
Fantastic! 5

This is a terrific primer. Goes on easily, does not dry skin and keeps eye make-up in place all day. Light weight yet good coverage. Wipes off easily.
This. Stuff. Changed. My. LIFE. 5

I bought this in a whim thinking I'd try an eye primer and this one had pretty good reviews. THEY AREN'T GOOD ENOUGH. I put my makeup on at 6AM and don't take it off until 8PM and IT'S STILL PERFECT. I love this stuff. I tell everything I see about it. it's amazing. I can't recommend this stuff ENOUGH.
It's not bad 3
Banana from Wayne
If you have double eyelids, the eyeshadow does build up in the crease. Of course there's still a difference from using this primer and not using a primer. It's not the best for a big special event and you really need your eyes to be on point the whole day.
Literally the best primer for oily lids 5
Kpatterson from Philadelphia, Pa
This product works better than any other shadow base I've tried that all cost double and triple what this does. I seriously can not keep eyeshadow on my lids, but with this, my eyes look the same as they did when I left the house, when arriving home 8, 9, 10, hours later.
Works The Same As The Elf One, Badly 3
Bailzkillzombie from Pittsburgh, PA
So thought this would work well like their eyeshadow base pots, pigment/glitter primers in the tubes but it does not sadly. I had the elf brand equivalent and they both do the same, apply on streaky and stay wet even with the eyeshadow and setting sprays/powders. It's easy for your work to get messed up by creating and pushing down with the brush too much while applying the shadow. It may be an oily eyelid issue or it may be a formula one but either way returning it.

I've been using this for over a month now and it just doesn't do it for me. Doesn't stop my creasing, doesn't keep my eyelids from getting oily and it makes applying shadow so much harder because it's so tacky no matter how little I use or how much I set it. My shadow always applies patchy. I'm just trying to use it up at this point.
Didn't do anything for me 1
Nope from Yuba
Even after shaking very watery , after I put it on my lid I could not see or feel a difference ..

Not expensive but you get what you pay for, definitely not worth it.
I've finally found this product! 5

Love this stuff. I've had this product once and have been looking for it ever since. So glad I stumbled on this at Ulta.

Normally use urban decay primer but thought I would give this a try since I normally love NYX products. Goes on smooth and grips color real well but does not last. 2 hours later my shadow was running all over my lids.
Useless 1
Sav from South Carolina
I can't imagine how so many people have good experiences with this product. It doesn't dry down at all and it smudges worse than when used without a primer.
My current eye primer 4
BeautySkoolDropout=) from MD
I purchased this during a NYX sale at Ulta bc I was tired of my at the time current primer and saw this one as a reasonable price for testing a new one. This stuff serves its purpose. I have oily lids, but I have no problems with this keeping my shadows/liner all day. My only "complaint" is that I wish it was a wee bit thicker/pastier so that I could wear it alone with a crease shade. But that's a very minor thing. Great product!
