Most Helpful Positive Review Great lightweight styler!
This is now my second bottle of this foam, and I'm still loving it! I have 2b hair, which is wavy. And though I've got lots of hair, it's somewhat fine in texture, which means my waves/curls don't always hold on their own. I was using gel exclusively, but that takes a long time to dry and could make my hair feel sticky or crunchy. This foam always makes it feel soft, almost as if I'm not wearing any product at all. And since it's lightweight, I find that it dries in about 2/3 the time.
How I apply it: When my hair is soaking wet in the shower, I bend forward and add a bit of conditioner for leave-in. Then I scrunch out some water. I apply a generous amount of this foam, working in about four sections, really making sure it's applied all the way to the ends. (Since it's not cheap I've tried to apply less, but that doesn't give me the shine or hold I like.) Since the weight of my hair can flatten the waves at the scalp, I grab a quarter-sized amount of strong-hold ArcAngel gel (also by Deva Curl), and scrunch that in to just my roots. I then scrunch, holding each section for a while, to remove any excess water. And follow that by gently scrunching using a microfiber towel to dry it further. [Written out, this all sounds like a lot of time, but it only takes less than 5 min.] I plop (look that up if you don't know how) my hair on my head using a kitchen floursack towel for about 10-15min. When I let my hair down, I gently clip some of the roots to lift them (again, look up root clipping for curly hair), and either air dry or use a diffuser. While it's drying, I don't touch my hair at all. When it's completely dry, I scrunch the light crunchy bits out, and tousle my roots for some lift.
To refresh my hair for the second day, I just lightly mist the hair with water, and using one pump of foam for the whole head, lightly rake it over any frizzy bits. When it's dry, they're shiny and behaving again. This stuff makes me so happy! :)
Most Helpful Critical Review Why did they change the formula!
Although Ulta still shows the old formula under the ingredients lists, apparently DevaCurl went and changed the formula without telling anyone. It does still enhance curls, but not the same, and now dries hair out. Disappointing.

All this did was make my hair frizzy. I had focused on my roots since my hair was getting weighed down. After 4 days of crazy frizzy hair I skipped it and used a curl enhancer from Cantu and my usual deva curl gel, and finally achieved defined curls, without being weighed down or crazy frizz. This did nothing but create frustrating hair days with me wondering what went wrong.

You'll lose hair with Devacurl product line. Don't do it, not worth it

I bought this and the wave maker a couple months back and tried it again recently after it made my hair feel weirdly textured and scalp itchy the first time, and it still felt weird trying it again. If I could give this 0 stars I really would, Ive been on a curly hair embracement and this stuff is not it and I'm sad. I spent $42 on 2 DC products and my scalp/hair should not be itchy/weirdly textured for the amount of money the products cost. There's also been others who have reported similar issues or hair loss and I believe there's a lawsuit going on. Good dupes would have to be Not Your Mother's/etc. So save your money, hair, and time and don't buy their products. Look for the dupes 👍🏻

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. Save your money. I recently started to embrace my natural hair. My hair is maybe a little frizzy (this is very dependent on weather too). I bought this along with the wave maker. The anti frizz would work for maybe a couple hours and then my hair would just frizz again. Day 2 hair was SUPER frizzy. My hair was always up because of this. I wondered if this product even worked so I did not use it for one wash/style and my hair was even MORE frizzy. Bottom line, I noticed that this product made my normal hair even more frizzy when I did not use it. Like I said above, I used this and wave maker from Deva curl and I experienced significant hair loss, especially around my part (the main place I concentrated the anti frizz). Please do your research. There is a lawsuit out against Deva Curl claiming their products cause hair loss. Once I found out, it all made sense. I stopped using their products immediately and noticed my hair is less frizzy and there was less hair loss in general. Before I could not even run my fingers through my hair without 15-20 strands falling loose. I switched to using Flora and Curl for styling and Redken for anti frizz. So far so good. I am extremely disappointed in this product and Deva Curl. Please do not fall victim to their clever marketing. Download the "think dirty" app and do your research. There are a lot of other cheaper and BETTER anti frizz products out there.

Do NOT use this product or anything from Deva Curl. I switched my entire hair care to DC and within 2 months I have lost A LOT of hair. I have patches on my scalp where hair is almost gone. I was losing tennis ball sized hair clumps every time I detangled with these products. Now my hair that used to be voluminous and thick is thin and lifeless. I will never recommend them to anyone. Look online. I'm not the only one who has experienced hair loss from their products. DO YOUR RESEARCH!

Great for everyday use

This product really keeps the frizz away without making my hair crunchy. It's so light it doesn't even feel like I have product in my hair. I have very fine hair so products that don't make it feel heavy or weighted down are super important. Great for everyday use.
Not worth the price paid

Product purchased based upon an Ulta advertisement I read. It seems to me that I am able to achieve the results with a much lower priced mousse. I won't purchase again.
I would buy this again!

Use it exactly how the bottle says, & it works great! Smells great too! Easy to use
Addicted to this!!!

I have fine, thin 2c/3a curls and this stuff is amazing for my hair. It's the only product I can use that will give me the volume I need without causing a ton of buildup. It does have a humectant in it, so during winter months I apply it before my cream and my gel, to have a couple layers between the humectant and the dry atmosphere outside my hair. I use it on wash day as a styler step (1 pump) and again on the top (1 pump) and back of my head (1 pump) after my hair is dry. I use large styling clips after applying and then fluff at the scalp to build volume. I use it at the scalp on wet or dry refresh days too (1 pump for whole head). So, everyday I apply this product. The bottle lasts a long time too. I've had my current bottle for about 4 months now.
I love this for a dry refresh between washes
Da from Eureka CA
I really like using this as a dry refresh on my curls. Even after sleeping with my hair in a "pineapple" the back of my head usually needs a little attention in the morning, this is perfect for that. Just a tiny pump, few scrunches and I'm ready. I haven't been a fan of several of the DevaCurl products but I like this one, also the archangel gel too. Smells a little too sweet but not as overpowering as some other other products scents

This is really a great product. I have been searching for something since I had a perm, that will keep the curl from frizzing and loosening during the day. This does the trick!!
Amazing lightweight mousse
Alison from Overland Park, KS
I first bought this product about two years ago and I still haven't found another mousse like it. It's so lightweight and gives my curls the frizz control and boost that they need. There are probably other great mousses out there but this one is my holy grail. This product also is going to last you a long time because you don't need to use much.

Recommended by my stylist. This is the 1st phase in a 3 part process. Helps reduce frizz in my waves/curls.
Azgirl from Arizona
This did absolutely nothing for me except make my hair greasy and flat and brittle all at the same time. It separated my curls into almost individual strands rather than making them look volumized. Then my hair just got dry. Returned it
It's good but causes dry brittleness
Vee from Portland
The product does help define curls however, it is sticky, stiff and dry.
Good Volume- But Not Great
Donna 57 from Springfield IL
Used 4 pumps, 2 on each side of hair. Did give volume but not as much as hoped. Will use more next time. My hair is medium length, fine, curly, not as thick as when young.

Not much volume, some frizz. Will use product until finished due to cost but will not purchase again
Amazing! My Must Have Item

I love this foam. It doesn't weigh my hair down or make it feel crunchy or sticky. I have very long, color treated, permed hair. This helps my beach waves a lot. I love the smell. Sadly, this is the only DevaCurl product I like. I'm on my third bottle and will continue to use this. It's so UCB better than regular mousse. I use a curling cream, then this foam, then gel.
Ingredients list at Ulta is outdated, performs OK
jess315 from Pueblo, Az
The bottle I bought at Ulta earlier this year matches the ingredients on the devacurl website, not ulta's. I think the prior formula made this product popular, but the current formula must have decreased in performance because I've tried it a few times and got droopy results. I want to make it work for my fine, long, wavy hair so I'll try it a few more times then see if I can return if it's not working for me.

this product did nothing for my hair. I put it on my roots and no lift at all.
taking back to ulta
Lous72 from MD
This is the only DevaCurl styler I like. I have tried the Wave Maker and the Styling Cream. I am still trying to play with the Wave Maker to see if I can get it to work, but the Styling Cream is way too heavy for my hair. I have thick, wavy to curly hair. This foam gives me defined waves that look great. There is a slight cast, but I scrunch it out after air drying. I don't get much, if any volume which is why I only gave it 4 stars. I have found that what works for one person is a no go for someone else, so you never know until you try it out.
Why are you rescaling products already used?

I know Devacurl is a great product based upon my use of the no poo and one condition Ulta has already shorted me on. My beef is with Ulta not Devacurl product
ddelao from Perris, CA
A ultra stylist referred this product to me. I told her I was looking to get my hair into beach waves however my hair gets frizzy. When I get out of the shower I apply this product into my hair and when I wake up it's like if I curled my hair. My natural hair is wavy.
