Most Helpful Positive Review My best purchase ever
I Will have to desagree with the bad reviews. I understand that people get used to a product and wont like any sort of changes. But to say this smells bad??? Not at all. It doesnt feel heavy either. And guys, the change was for the best cause now it is broadspectrum! Still the smell is great, the texture is great and I never leave home without putting it on. My companion.
Most Helpful Critical Review Stains Clothes! Terrible new Formula
I don't know what they did to this stuff, but it now turns light colored shirts orange. It destroyed my favorite Nautica Oxford and another dress shirt I own as well as 6 of my undershirts. I conducted a controlled experiment by placing a dot of each of the new Kiehls products I was using on a white t-shirt. After Facial Fuel SPF15 dried, there was a large orange dot on the shirt. I washed the shirt multiple times, used spray and wash, and the spot still would not come out. They really made a mistake with this product and I am surprised they didn't catch this during their testing phase. Save your clothes! Don't buy this product!

As written by virtually every reviewer, the new lotion is not as good as the old lotion. Kiehls--Even Coca Cola realized the screwed up with new Coke and went back the original formula. Time to take a lesson from mistakes past.
SPF 20 is a huge failure IMO!

I hope the product manager(s) are being reviewed periodically based on client feedback. Ruined a perfect product in a hurry.
rubbing my face for days
thetimidmango from Brooklyn, NY
The old version (SPF 15) was good. This product is so bad that it makes me wonder if anyone tried it before they released it. The lotion goes on so white from SPF that it takes me 10 minutes to rub it in fully, and yet I'm still often left with white streaks in my beard. This lotion gives you two options: use less cream and have a dry face, or use more cream and rub your face raw.
New Formula - NOT as good
MJAY from undisclosed
Seems when they changed Facial Fuel w/ SPF form 15 SPF to 20 SPF it really went downhill. This used to be a light and easy to apply product that left your sking feeling great and not oily or "coated". New product is just OK, but nearly as good as previoous formula - BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL FACIAL FUEL.
Awful! STAINS! Bring back the old formula.
billyW from Boston, MA
This used to be my go to summer moisturizer. This new formula is not good. Sweats off more easily AND anything you sweat on/or get the moisturizer on ends up with ORANGE rust colored stains! Took us a long time to figure out what was causing the stains!
Embrace it as Sunscreen
HumanBockwurst from Bay Area, CA
Seeing a lot of reviews that complain about this being too much like regular sunscreen, and about it not being as good as the prior formula (which was 15 SPF). My view is that you should just embrace it as actual sunscreen - if you don't like the smell and feel of this, just get the normal Facial Fuel, and then when you need sunblock.... use sunblock. In fact, Kiehl's should increase the SPF so it will actually protect skin for more than moderate exposure. At 20 SPF, this is good for only those occasions when you know in advance you'll have more than a little, but not a lot of sun. In other words, if I know I'll be exposed to direct sunlight for more than 30 minutes at a time, but less than an hour, than I use this product rather than normal facial fuel; if I expect longer exposure I use this product along with traditional sunblock. If the SPF were increased, the smell and greasy texture would likely also increase (great if not tho), but so too would its effectiveness as a sunscreen. I think the issue is that it is marketed as lotion that also protects against a little sun, so people expect it to be like lotion. But if you just call it sunscreen that also moisturizes your face, then people will expect the smell and texture of sunblock and be pleasantly surprised that it's not so bad. This formula, at this price point, isn't a great lotion or a great sunscreen, but would be worthwhile, I think, if it was a stronger sunscreen (since I don't think you can get the sun-blocking characteristics without the smell/texture, and you already carry a great lotion).
go back to SPF 15
HDHD from Texas
I have purchased for years...I agree that it can sting the eyes especially later in the day...I will have to look to another product unless I can find SPF 15 tube somewhere
new formula works great for me
koberlin1 from California
Don't agree with any other recent reviews saying new formula is greasy and hurts eyes. Have you ever used normal sunblock? THAT is greasy and can hurt eyes. I liked the old SPF 15 formula and also like the new SPF 20. Does not hurt my eyes at all nor feels too greasy..in fact don't feel ANY grease at all. People can be picky but really there is no other product I have found that invigorates my skin and keeps it protected from UV at the same time. Thank you Kiehl's for the great product! FYI this is NOT a sample review...have been using this for years.
I Don't Hate It But...

...I wish I had read the reviews first. First - kudos to Kiehl's for publishing the bad reviews along with the good. It makes the reviews overall far easier to trust. That said I agree with many comments here and wish you had kept the SPF15 formula. This isn't 'horrible' but it IS greasier. Like a woman's lotion it is greasier and leaves a shine on my face. OK at night but not when I'm going out. The smell is OK (a bit like tanning lotion) and I don't get the eye sting others have mentioned. Again, thanks Kiehl's for publishing all comments and not just favorable ones.
The only skincare I can get my husband to use!
Productaholic from San Francisco, CA
I've worked in the beauty industry for over 15 years and have given my husband so many nice products to use but he won't touch them. I finally bought him facial fuel and he keeps asking for more every time he runs out! Happy that he's using moisturizer and SPF every day! He loves the texture and the refreshing feeling of the the cream. Just buy it for your husband's... it's a great 'guy' product.

I have been a loyal Kiehl's user for 15 years now and this is a disaster. It burns my eyes to the point where I have to flush my eyes while I'm working as my body temp heats up.
Please Bring Back the Old Formula
SeanThistle from Santa Monica, CA
Please bring back the old SPF formula. This one burns the eyes through the day and is oily in texture. It seems I am not alone in my opinion. It's time for a change.
Greasy, hurts my eyes and smells strong
Kaudi from Lexington, KY
Not a sample review - I purchased the 6.8 oz tube as I needed a daily moisturizer with SPF. Haven't gone through a third of this tube and I'm not sure if I will completely use it. Hurts my eyes almost every time I apply. I'm not new to applying near the eyes but this causes eyes to irritate for long after you're done applying. This is one of the main reasons for reduced usage. The other reason is the strong smell which I'm not a fan of. Greasy as it is, I have little to complain about it. Most SPF moisturizers are slightly to moderately greasy imo. This one is on the greasier side though. All other kiehls products are my go to. But I'll look elsewhere for a replacement to this daily moisturizer.

The old SPF formula was a product I loved for years. The extra SPF is fine but now its greasy and sort of sticky when dry. It stings if it gets in your eyes. Go back to old formula please
Did change, but still OK
Professoriat from Santa Cruz, CA, USA
I did notice the change to SPF 20, the lotion did not have the same lightness and brightness. The invigorating coolness of the SPF 15 formulation is gone. It does take a little longer to soak in. This means I've learned to use less, diluting the SFP benefits somewhat. But once it does soak in, it's fine. I do notice that by the end of the day I'm more eager to get this off my face again. But it's not a bad thing I be prompted to wash one's face after work.
I'll continue to buy it, though I would like to see the older formula come back.

Stuff is great. Whoever said it was greasy is using WAY too much.
New Coke vs. Old Coke
MDSChicago from Estero FL
I nearly didn't buy this new version of Facial Fuel sunscreen because of all the poor reviews, mostly people disappointed with the new SPF 20 formula. I wasn't a huge fan of the previous SPF 15 version, since it wasn't enough like classic Facial Fuel for my taste. But this is a good product. The consistency is a little lighter than the previous version, but it's not watery, and certainly not greasy. I like the somewhat shinier, healthier glow it gives my face when I apply it. I still think it should be more like Facial Fuel in terms of scent and feel, but this is a fine daily moisturizer in the meantime.
Blah - new formula is not as nice as the old one
OutdoorsinCO from Colorado
I have to agree with the other reviewers on the new formula with SPF 20: it is greasier, and doesn't feel as lightweight or "cooling" on the skin as the SPF 15 formula that Kiehl's had before. In fact, I have a travel size of the SPF 15 (old formula) and a large tube of the SPF 20 (new formula) for home use, and each time I travel and use the older tube/formula, I realize how much better I like it than the new formula.
The new formula definitely feels greasier and adds shine to my face. I've used this stuff for years, but now find myself looking elsewhere for a new daily moisturizer solution for the dry sunny climate that I live in - what a pain. Don't try to fix something when it works well!
Dissatisfied from undisclosed
I used to the 15spf previously. It was great. When this came out, I thought, great! More spf, better protection. The consistency is no where near the same. It?s very watery. The 15spf was thicker quality. I would not recommend this.
Not sure where these bad reviews are coming from

I've been using this product on/off for 10+ years. I just purchased it again for the first time in a while and it is great. Nice and light, no grease at all -- Seriously I dont understand how people are saying this is too greasy. First thing that I noticed was how it DIDNT make my face greasy. Leaves my face extremely soft afterwards. I look forward to continue to use this product.
Ruined a once wonderful product
FrancisB from Seattle, WA
Old formula was so nice and didn?t produce so much shine and oily feeling on face. Haven?t bought this moisturizer in over 1.5 years because the reformulation makes your skin feel greasy and made me break out. Please Kiehl?s reformulate this moisturizer with sunscreen ASAP I?ve gone to using the men?s anti aging moisturizer instead and wanna go back to the cooking, refreshing feeling of facial fuel SPF
When is the travel size going to be back in stock?

Great product, however the travel size has been OOS since 3Q19. Please add back to line-up.

Been a loyal Facial Fuel user for years, what changed? It applies very greasy, and caused me to break out (haven't in years).
Will it remain the same? Was this a bad batch?
Don?t fix what isn?t broken
Michael88 from Fort Lauderdale
I have used this product everyday for close to 10 years and loved it. Everyone always complimented my skin. When I went to go stock up I was thrilled that they upped the SPF from 15 to 20, then I used it for the first time. It is absolutely ruined, it applies like a sunscreen, is greasy, smells, and leaves your face shiny. I?m unreasonably devasted that I now have to try another 100 products just to find one I like when the perfect moisturizer with SPF already existed. As you can see from all the other recent reviews I am not the only one that feels this way. Kiehls, recognize you made a mistake, apologize to your loyal customers, and return our beloved product back to us.
Also I said I did NOT receive a free sample of this product and when I submit my review it changes to say I did.
Want the old formula back!
GaryB from Los Angeles
I have used Facial Fuel SPF 15 for years and loved it. Very light, not greasy. This new formula, while I like that it has a higher SPF, makes my face shinny and it feels greasy. I am going to return it and find another companies product. BRING BACK THE OLD FORMULA!
