Most Helpful Positive Review It works quick!
I just finished using this product for the first time. There were no directions in the box and the ones on the box are very simplified. I found the most useful directions on this webpage. I started by sectioning my hair since you have to apply this quickly. Then I mixed half the activator and half the developer and then applied it to my dry hair starting at the back underneath part of my hair that has the darkest color remaining. I was removing Punky Colours Flamingo Pink and Plum so I could switch out to a light blue. By the time I got to applying to the front of my hair the color was pretty much gone from the back! The color I had in the front of my hair was very pale pink and came out super quick. Total time with the product on my hair was between 10-15 minutes. I rinsed it out and shampooed my hair. I combed it out and started to dry it but my hair was super sticky feeling. So I shampooed it again and used a deep conditioning hair mask (not the one that came in the box). My hair is now bleach blonde (except for the ends at the back I missed and are a little light pink) and feels great!
In all this product worked great at removing the color from my hair. I was a little put off by the sticky feeling it left but my hair doesn't seem to be damaged at all and I was able to get it to not feel that sticky after deep conditioning it.
Most Helpful Critical Review Does its job, but use with caution!
I picked this up to undo a couple failed attempts to tone my own hair. I had a demi-permanent ash blonde with lilac color gloss that had faded out unevenly, and subsequent attempts to tone the blonde had left me patchy at best. After wasting a jar of Unicorn Hair, I decided to start from scratch.
I have bleached my hair at home before, and know how my hair takes bleach. The kit is only bleach-free if you don't use the developer-- the activator may be 'bleach-free' but is def another harsh chemical. After a bit of extra research, I decided to combine the first two 'options' on the box: The full 2 oz of activator; 2 oz of distilled water; and 2 oz of the 20 vol developer. The water dilutes the 20 down to a 10.
The brush bristles were very stiff and not very wide, so I gave up and just applied with my gloved hands. I have some ombre'd growout that I didn't want to risk unevenly bleaching, so I feathered the application along my roots-- keeping this off your scalp is definitely a good idea. My hair doesn't lift very easily, so I left it process under a shower cap for about 45 minutes, checking it every 10-15 minutes.
When I rinsed her off, I skipped the included Intrabond mask in favor of a Mane Club 5-in-1 conditioner pouch. I had read how damaging the kit could be in other reviews and didn't want to take chances with my fine, dry hair. I have overbleached my hair before and the results are never pretty. Afterwards, my hair was indeed free of color -- and perhaps lifted just a step lighter -- with no harsh bands along my roots or patches of uneven color. However, my hair still felt like dry straw, and it wasn't until another round of Mane Club that it went back to a more normal texture.
If you're willing to take risks and do research -- and you know how your hair handles bleach -- it will do its job at a nice price point. The resulting blonde is lovely and even, especially for an at-home job, but I would not recommend it for drastic changes or unfaded color.

This product is TERRIBLE! Just bleach.

It bleached dark brown hair... white blonde at the roots and bright orange on the lengths
This sucks don't buy it from Detroit, MI
I wanted my semi permanent hair dye and I asked my sister and she said it was getting lighter so I went and looked in the mirror and it was BLONDE!

I ha dyed my hair blue and it turned a dark blackish blue so I bought this. It bleached my hair to white roots with orange lengths, I was horrified to say the least and would not leave my house with my hair looking like this. Very luckily I had keracolor clenditioner in espresso brown still and it turned back to my normal hair color so thank God. Don't use this unless you're looking to bleach your hair, very disappointing.
Yep, it's just bleach
Rachel from Florida
This not only removed my temporary dye, but it also lightened my hair to a shade lighter than my hair was before the dye. I also tested a small spot of virgin hair, and it lifted color from there too. It really is just bleach.

Has a bleach or something and made my hair dull very dull because of it. Only took out alittle color now my hair is very electric pink idk where it's going to go from here because of the bleach but I will have to make sure I keep moisture so my hair doesn't fall out cause that's the fear right now.
⚠️ HAS BLEACH!!! ⚠️

I bought this because it was advertised as having no bleach. The second I applied this to my hair it started bleaching my roots! ALSO, IT TURNED MY HAIR GREEN! It didn't removed any of the purple in my hair, it just turned it a bright vibrant green color....
Burnt my hair off in 5 minutes

I have a full highlighted head of hair which has always been healthy.. that is until I used this! I had a lilac wash in conditioner in my hair and wanted to remove the color. As listed on this box, I thought it would be a safer alternative to bleach. Instead I washed it out and chunks of slimey hair came out. When my hair was finally dried, I saw how much damage had been done in under 5 minutes of having on my hair. I will now have to get extensions to help my thinning hair. Please don't be impulsive and think this is gonna work for you!
this took out splats midnight indigo

like this stuff stripped splat out of my hair. blue black splat. the hair mask it comes with really helped keep my hair from feeling too over processed. i'm about to use it to strip punky colours violet out of my hair. wish me luck lol

So I used this to remove the punky colour (green) and while it worked relatively well, it totally dyed my roots. Everything I read said to apply is to remove the color but said nothing about potentially bleaching your roots as well. It also did not fully remove the green from the mid-shaft of my hair. That being said, I would still recommend to help you get super dark colors out of your hair when you are tired of them and need a change.
Be Warned: this is just bleach

Tried using this stuff to get my hair back to my natural dark blonde after using the Punky Tealistic hair dye. This just bleached the cheese out of most of my hair, but left a good bit of teal and my roots by my face in tact.

punky colour is officially my favorite brand of hair products. this color remover took really saturated dye out without any sort of damage!! its amazing, i 100% recommend
It works on extensions (100% Human Hair)
Hannah from Carmel, Indiana
A toner left my hair green and my extensions soaked it up. After using this, my hair extensions went back to blonde and bright as ever. You need to watch how fast it develops, but overall I'm thankful I found this.
Suited my purposes, but product not as advertised

So let's make one thing super clear: this is a bleach kit. I read the reviews before I used it, and I took two to heart: I tried it using the shampoo cap method, and then the next day I just said screw it and used the entire bottle of developer with the activator. The shampoo cap was a little too light for the dye leftover, and the rest of the kit there were still some patches leftover. But definitely definitely it lifted my hair and my roots. I left mine in for about 9 minutes and it stripped and lifted. Now, my hair and my scalp are pretty sturdy, but even with that in mind I would never leave this in for the recommended amount of time on the box.
I have a bob now 🙃

This is cheap, awful bleach. Don't buy. And esp do not buy if you had blonde hair and then colored. Stick to color oops!
so so bad
reese from west virginia
this is so harsh. it did strip black color out of my hair but left me with orange roots and an uneven ugly red color (my natural color is dark brown). my hair broke and fell out after i used this in combination with one lightening session. i have really strong hair and i've never fried my hair like that before! i do not recommend ever using this to remove color, there are plenty of other methods that are less damaging.
Does what it promised but left me with bleached roots :(
natalie from Seattle, WA
used for the recommended time on semi permanent dye and it bleached my roots :( was not looking to bleach them anytime soon but now they're orange (instead of brown) on only one side of my head. It did a great job removing the dye though.
Far too damaging for non bleach.
Lauren from TX
DO NOT USE unless your only other option is bleach. This is just as damaging as bleach when the box claims that it isn't. It claims to be safer and less damaging on your hair but my hair is falling out after doing one application for 15-20 minutes, when my recommended time on the box was 60 minutes. If I listened to the box I would have no hair.
dont leave it in as long as it says
nickey from Pittsburgh pa
it's a good product, but it is bleach in almost every sense of the word. I noticed it started working in less than a minute. I had two permanent brunette box hair dyes in and I'm not bleach blonde with no toner in less than 30 minutes for a tim suggestion of 45-60 for permanent dye... I felt some heat on my head after application, my ends were fried and falling off a bit. I did use the hair mask provided and then washed and deep conditioned my hair again. I have really short hair and one box was just enough for that.

worked liked magic and really fast. It stripped all my pink hair dye and left my hair white! perfect condition to dye it purple right after

I got this product to remove some stubborn semi-permanent blue that could not be conquered by its own brand of colour remover. Well, this stuff got the blue out... mostly. After application (following what instructions there were), most of my hair was nearly white, and the texture of corn silk. As I rinsed, said hair began to FALL OFF. I was horrified. I had to cut off a good six inches of my hair.

Bought for myself and didn't have time before a family friend came to visit and asked if she could use it. I decided to do the "shampoo cap" method. Doing this method prevented any of the negative comments I'm reading here. So if you haven't heard of doing a "shampoo cap" I recommend looking that up....
My family friend had fried hair. Like it was definitely not a good idea to lighten her hair anymore, but she insisted. After using this kit (in the shampoo cap) and the deep conditioner it came with, her hair was blonde, looked and felt better again.
I will be ordering again for myself this time forsure.

literally straight bleach. nearly ruined my hair trying to get unwanted color out.
Yoooo this sucks

Okay sooooo I bought this to remove the last remnants of the anime lime crime unicorn hair color (a bright teal); it was already faded out mostly as I color oops'd twice a few days ago. As soon as I mixed my products, it smelled just like bleach which was kind of alarming but me being kinda ballsy still proceeded to apply it all over my head in small sections. Within 15 minutes my roots were bleached completely like this lifted my natural hair color! It didn't really touch the blue, it maybe lightened it to pastel although I have to wait for it to dry to see the true color. Now I have bright blonde roots and the rest is pastel blue. The developer lists hydrogen peroxide as the second ingredient so it is most definitely bleach. Overall I'm pretty unhappy with this product although I'm hoping that my new blonde roots and blue hair will be a new trend lol. My hair is still super soft and healthy so I'm very thankful I didn't experience the damage that many other people did. Anyways this product really didn't do what it said it would and I will never purchase it again. Trying to decide if I'm going to go to the salon and have them lighten the rest of it up depending on how wack it looks once dried. If I can I'll post another picture once I rinse out this hair mask and let my hair air dry!

I was recommended this product to remove the permanent pink out of my hair. Was told it was less harsh than bleach. Well if by "color off" they mean it will literally have your previously colored hair falling off your head, the. This product is for you! I have always dyed my own hair. Bleached it a handful of time too - never in my life have I seen such damaged hair after one application. And the pink isn't even gone all way. My hair. Wait, no, I can't even call it hair anymore - it's more like the thin elastic skeleton of my hair, is so damaged, I will most likely have to cut about 6 inches off. Worst product ever! Should have just bleached my hair with the products I am familiar with and went with my gut on this one.
