Most Helpful Positive Review LOVED this color
LOVE this color. Wanted to dye my hair for halloween and ended up keeping it because i loved it so much! I had some old highlights on the ends of my hair and it really picked up the red and looked amazing!
Most Helpful Critical Review Only the color I wanted for the first day
This product is awesome because it colors over dark hair, I don't have to lighten my hair at all. The first day it looked great but it was everywhere. If I touch my hair it was green. My shirt was green, everything was green. I washed my hair once and the color changed dramatically. Fades so fast. My hair is still green and it's only the third wash. It's a light swampy green not Teal at all

To preface, I'm naturally a brunette and had blonde balayage in my hair that grew out and salons were closed due to COVID so it had been almost a whole year since I last got my hair done. I used brown box dye to just return to brunette but that faded pretty quickly so I was a light brunette at the bottom half of my hair. I then had my heart broken and thought, let me dye my hair burgundy. I had used the Colorista in lilac last summer just two weeks before I got the balayage professionally done and there was no issues at all, it faded more and more after each wash like it said and my stylist had no issues covering the lilac. Anyways, I dyed my hair with the Colorista burgundy and it was super cute and bright. After a few washes, it eventually turned rose gold which was cute but then an aquamarine color. I used brown box dye again to cover that up, which again mostly faded. My hair is now green from using the Colorista in burgundy. I tried using Color Oops Extra Strength but it doesn't work much with Colorista since it works best with dye that you mix with developer meanwhile Colorista comes in a tube already mixed, and the Color Oops makes your hair smell terrible. I should've read the reviews about this exact product and color on dyed hair. It's cute at first and a nice change but make sure you have an appointment set up soon after because this will turn your hair green and you will only be able to get it bleached out at the salon.
This was my 2nd time and YES!

Great product. Will keep purchasing it.
DO NOT USE IF YOU HAVE BLEACHED HAIR
Carmen from Riverside, CA
Purchased back in February 2020 and this product did not wash out due to the fact that my hair had residue from being bleached. I tried everything to get it out and with no success. I went to my hair dresser in June of 2020 and she was not able to get the color out either. So if you have your hair bleached and are not willing to live with this color forever do not use it. I still have the color stain in my hair as of today, July 16, 2020. I will never do that again. A major disclaimer needs to be added to this box!!!!
Vibrant Color, Long lasting
Kristen from WA
I am surprised to see such low reviews on this product. I purchased the maroon shade. I went through 2 boxes because I wanted an intense and long-lasting color. I also let it sit for longer, and wrapped my hair in plastic using a hairdryer for about 60 seconds to set the color. The results were amazing, as the hair color lasted for about 1 year. That's just my personal experience, though! I did treat the hair color as if it were salon, so I used specialty products to really keep the color. I also "updated" the color around 6 months, which helped. I have been very pleased with the vibrancy of this product, and happy that it lasted so long. It was gorgeous during the summer months.
The only con was the first few washes, as it looked like a murder scene washing down my bathtub drain. Remember to use Vaseline on places on the head to prevent staining on hairlines.
Lots of product BUT makes a huge mess!!!

Plenty of product and tools to apply product. Expect a mess to clean up when rinsing it out. Shower walls and floor stained blue along with plenty of towels. If your body or neck skin is extremely white expect it to get slightly tinted when rinsing it out. Have a me clean eraser ready for clean up afterwards too.

I used the royal blue dye and it's been about a month and my hair is now green. I've tried color removers and even had a professional try to color correct the green but it's still there. Be super careful when using this product.
Not expected results

Brought 2 pkgs for my daughter with med-dark brown hair and it was barely noticeable. Just made her hair darker but not much noticeable color at all. After furst wash with professional shampoo for color-treated hair, it was pretty much gone. Going back to Clairol Color Instincts as it lasts for about 15 shampoos.
Great results over five uses

Others seem to have had negative experiences with this product, but I've used the Maroon, Midnight Blue, and Teal. All of them came out great and stayed in longer than other semi-permanent dyes I've tried (which is a lot of them.) It also stays in much longer. Perhaps this stems from my natural hair color (dark ash blonde, so pigment faux pas are far more rare than others) but I would recommend this for anyone who has dark blonde or light brown hair and wants to avoid bleaching.

The color is amazing and it's very easy to apply.

If you're bored and stuck at home, this is good for mixing things up. It doesn't smell terrible and the maroon shows up ok. My sister let it sit in her hair for too long and it turned her hair black.
Color showed on my dark brown hair

I bought this probably about a year ago and never had the guts to use it. I figured since I'm stuck in the house, might as well try it because no one's going to see it anyways. I have natural dark brown hair with medium highlights, and the color pops out in my highlights beautifully. And when I let the sun hit my head, it's magic and you can see all the purple! I'm going to try the blue next!
First time ever coloring, really happy with result

I wish we could post photos so I could show the before and after, I'm super impressed with how it turned out! I used Red 30 and have dark brown hair with natural highlights that are medium brown. My hair is thin, healthy and long as I don't heat style often. I'm guessing quite porous as the color came out to be a pretty rich burgundy and I went for an ombré effect. I wash my hair every day so I'm going to try not to, to see how long the color lasts. I only used half the bottle, so I'll definitely be using again.
I've bought this product so many times I've lost count!

Okay, when I first bought this product I was very skeptical. I didn't see how a color dye could possibly work on my dark brown hair enough to where you'd be able to notice. That being said, I started off with the maroon so that if it didn't work well it'd still blend into my hair- but after I used it I could tell right after my hair dried it had worked! Then I got a little more bold and got green. Best decision ever! I have bought at least 4 bottles of green so far and have been using them the last 6 months. I did a full application roots to end then switched to just roots. I'm a fan of just ends personally on myself so when I apply to just my ends I can get 3 uses out of each bottle.
All I do is put it on my dry hair like the instructions say then leave it in 20 minutes and wash it out. I do definitely notice a difference between application on clean hair like it wants and non-washed hair.
I'm terrible and wash my hair basically every day but the color still lasts awhile. After the 3rd wash you can definitely tell it fades but it still looks good. The only issue I've had with the green is that it sticks around for awhile- way more than 2 weeks like the bottle says. I've never had an issue with staining on my skin or even with on my clothes or pillow case but that's because I wash out the dye with shampoo after application even though it tells you to just rinse with water! Again, never had an issue with the color when doing this- it still shows a nice green.
DO NOT BUY. IT WILL NOT COME OUT!

PLEASE BEWARE! I had healthy and natural medium brown hair and wanted a change without having to commit to something long-term and without the damage of bleaching, so I opted for this. I used the red and it came out magenta which I loved... at first. I DYED MY HAIR IN THE SUMMER AND 3 MONTHS LATER IT WAS STILL THERE! I tried a couple of things including clarifying shampoos and nothing worked. I went to a hairdresser mid October to get rid of it and go blonde but the red wouldn't come out even after bleaching! I didn't want to further damage my hair so I now have orangey-red hair mid shaft to ends. I've been using hair masks to get my waves/curls back and I'm gonna try blue shampoo to tone it down now. Please be careful and don't make the same mistake I did!
Not worth it
Cat from Mesa, Arizona
I used this product on my light brown with blonde balayage hair. It looked great after using 4 boxes to cover my whole head (I have long thick hair). It was a beautiful magenta color. After the 1st wash it faded about 50% but still looked pretty good. Faded a lot more after the 3rd wash but still didn't look bad. But after the 4th wash the pink started fading unevenly and what had faded all the way out left my hair an ugly green color. So I now have light pink mixed with an ugly green color in my hair. I have been washing my hair non stop using whatever products I can to get this stuff and get rid of the green tone (tip if this happens to you wait till all the pink is gone and then use a gloss or toner that has warm tones in it to cancel out the ashy green color). So now I'm just patiently waiting for the pink to come out so I can tone my hair. The two days of it looking cute were not worth the many days of ugly pink and green hair and how much money I have wasted.
Doesn't show up on medium brown hair

Dyed my son's hair green for Halloween. It worked perfectly

I dyed my son's hair green for Halloween, it worked perfectly and he loved it!
Lasting Color, VERY messy
Blue/gray hair from Minneapolis, MN
Very bright & vibrant color. The directions say to leave on your hair for 30 minutes, I rinsed after 15 minutes and couldn't believe how bold the color was. The color was more teal than blue - so the color result wasn't what I was looking for - but my hair was shiny & soft, the color was really bold. I wanted to reduce the boldness of the color - so washed my hair a number of times & will say the color lasted, which if I liked the color that would be a good thing.
The cons - it's very messy, not just during the application which I expected. Even after several washes, the color continued to stain my neck & my hands even when my hair was dry.
Red! Loved it! Feel like Ariel.

I bought this one because I specifically wanted a deeper shade and I loved how it turned out! I needed it to fade quite quickly so I did some anti-dandruff shampoo and some vitamin C treatments to get it to fade out faster, it totally work btw and I wash my hair every day, so it definitely faded pretty quick for me but honestly I love it and I love the colour it faded too, it now looks like a pink wash, it's great! I have blonde bits at the end of my hair from sun and an old balayage and it has actually faded off of those bits first, which I love, it looks so cool and when I don't need my hair to be my normal brown I am definitely going to be grabbing this one again. it's a great price, was super easy to apply, covered my whole head and I really like that you're not mixing two together, it comes in a tube, with several pairs of gloves, and you can easily re-seal the tube if you need to. It didn't have a weird smell to me and didn't seem to damage my hair.
It's a semi dye so it will stain everything if you let it! It only transfers when your hair is wet but just be aware. That's what comes with using semi dyes.
We're going to do my friends blonde hair, pastel blue now because he was inspired by my fun times so I'll leave a review for that too.
If you want to protect your tub for the first wash out then just use a little oil on the tub :)
I would buy this multiple times it was very amazing

I have highlighted hair and that may have effected my results, but it was very opaque and had a beautiful color. It was shiny and my hair was very soft after using.
My daughter loves it!

Perfect for my preteen who is wanting to color her hair without the harsh chemical treatments. We only color the under half of her hair for a more subtle look.
Burgundy is amazing!
shel from az
All the bad reviews I've seen about this product are referring to the blue shades, so I would avoid those! However, I used the burgundy shade to dye the ends of my hair & it's worked out great! I would consider my hair dark blonde, almost brown. It never stained my pillow cases, my clothing, or my shower. I shower every day, but don't shampoo the ends of my hair anyways so they stay healthier. It's been two & a half weeks & the color is almost gone, just kinda looks darker than the rest of my hair. This dye has been great
for me, I just wish it lasted a little longer!
DO NOT USE
Ange from Clovis, CA
DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT. The fun of having the colored hair only lasted so long. I purchased the midnight blue dye and it stained my hair green. My hair has been green well over the 5-14 wash period. I tried so many shampoos, home remedies, and a color extractor and nothing worked. I went to a professional and not even her color extractor or the bleach removed it. DO NOT BUY.
Works on BROWN Hair
Sophia from Kissimmee Fl
Love this ! Never thought I'd be able to color my hair without bleaching . The color will be very light if you have dark brown hair , so do it twice ! I used the whole tube the first time for an ombré & then did it again 3 days later. I left it on for 1.5 hours vs the 30 minutes it recommends and loved the results . I have virgin hair so I feel like it takes a little longer . Color does go away after 6 washes or so , but you can always do another round when it starts getting light again . Leaves hair super soft & doesnt stain my tub either . The first picture is the end result and the second picture is after only one application.
