Comments about L'Oréal Colorist Secrets Haircolor Remover:

I used this product on three occasions. The first was to take out green and black from my bleached hair. It was easy to use and worked wonderfully! The second time I used it to remove blue and purple from my hair. It lightened the color tremendously but it didn't look very good and I had to put bleach over my hair to get the rest of the color out. I was disappointed. The third time I used it to get rid of black and red from my hair. It didn't remove all of the red and was patchy, stripped my natural hair color underneath the red, but it did remove the black. I would say keep expectations somewhat low but it is better than some hair removal products I've used for unnatural colors.

Comments about L'Oréal Colorist Secrets Haircolor Remover:

Know this before you purchase this product: it is a BLEACH and it will remove the color from ALL hair that it touches. If you understand that and aren't expecting something that will return your hair to its natural color, you should be pleased with this product.

I have been coloring my hair for nearly 10 years, primarily to cover grays. (The women in my family tend to go gray early.) My natural shade is dark brown so I have been using that color family, but recently I've noticed that my below-the-shoulder hair has become almost ombre --- very dark, almost black at the ends, and progressive lighter toward the roots. Simultaneously I decided that the very dark color is a bit stark on me, and I wanted a softer look. I knew I couldn't color over the darker ends with a lighter brown, so I opted to try this product.

I did a strand test first and decided to proceed based on the color result after 30 minutes exposure to the product. But it was a bit tedious to apply because you must avoid new growth, so it took my daughter about half an hour to cover my head. All told, it took 50 minutes from starting the application until I rinsed my hair. The resulting color was a light red/orange, actually quite natural looking (my husband is a redhead) but inconsistent enough that I would not have kept my hair that color.

I allowed my hair to dry and colored later the same day with a permanent haircolor a few shades lighter than the dark browns I have used in the past. I feel the remover did what I was hoping, and left a good platform for re-coloring.

Beware, the product DID bleach my new growth to a white blonde in places where we accidentally got a bit on the previously untreated hair.

I do wish the package clearly stated that this product is a bleach, but nowhere on the package or insert do I find that important fact. If it did, I believe many of those who gave one-star reviews would not have been so surprised and disappointed by the results they achieved.

Just bought this today! I have been dying my hair black for about 6 months. I finally decided I didn't want it anymore but didn't want to pay absorbent amounts of money at a salon to get rid of it. I saw this at Rite Aid and figured I would give it a try and its PERFECT! Im so excited to get rid of the black. It stripped it all out to a brassy yellow orange. I only left mine in 30 min, i feel like i should have left it in another 5-10 but didnt' want to leave it in too long. Excited to dye my hair a new color!!!

I've only ever bleached on layer of my hair and that was on the bottom layer, last summer. It was died pink and washed out after a few months. My natural hair is a dark hazelnut color. It's dyed black right now though. For summer I want a light golden brown almost blonde color but don't wanna bleach my hair. What color remover would be best for my wants? Thank you.

Hi Sylvia! It depends on the hair type how long it will take to lighten. Since you are starting from a very intense Blue Black shade it could take more than one application. We recommend being very careful with the hair as well since multiple applications of bleach can be very damaging.

                              A:

Hi RB! Colorist Secrets Haircolor Remover can only be used if your hair is in good condition, shoulder-length or shorter, and all of your gray hair and natural hair is covered with artificial haircolor. If you use this on gray hair or it gets on uncolored roots, breakage can occur. This product will expose the natural undertone of your hair in order to re-color the same day. If you are looking to get a light brown, you would put this product on until your hair is orange. Then, you can use a light brown haircolor.

If your current color is only a bit darker than what you desire, you most likely don't have to use this product. You can gradually fade the color by frequently shampooing your hair with a shampoo not made for color-treated hair. We hope this helps!

                              A:

The Colorist Secrets Haircolor Remover should only be applied to the dyed hair. Natural hair lightens up much easier than dyed hair so any new growth exposed to this lightener would become very light compared to the rest of the hair, leaving the hair's color very uneven.
To avoid color build up on the ends of the hair n the future, only apply any hair dye to the previously dyed hair for no more than 5 minutes at the end of your timing. If the previously dyed ends are already dark enough and don't need the color refreshed, just color the roots and leave the ends alone.

Hi! After you have rinsed the haircolor remover and gently shampoo and dry your hair you can re-color. You can follow the timing on your haircolor instructions. Excellence is 30 minutes (40 if covering gray) Preference is 25 minutes (30 if covering gray).

Hello Grannie! It will remove the L'Oreal Preference haircolor as well as your natural hair color and undertones. We would not recommend that you use this product on gray hair, even if the gray hair is covered by a hair-coloring process. We hope this information was helpful.
