Most Helpful Positive Review It worked!!! Cannot believe how well this product worked out for my hair. I love the results.
A bit worried after reading some of the comments.
Here's my take on some of the cons for anyone who might be discouraged by them:
1) Yes, the smell does seem cologne-y straight from the bottle however this didn't linger in my hair.
2) Of course this shampoo is very deep indigo blue however it didn't taint my skin or bathroom. I didn't use gloves either.
I asked to put highlights into my curly brown hair. My secret hope is that I would create brunette shades in my hair...think sunlight on a sandy beach OR brown sugary tones. Not what happened. Instead, my highlights turned into the leaves of autumn, orange-y which personally doesn't appeal to me.
Violet shampoo for blonder hair didn't improve the tones in my hair whatsoever, I could feel the shampoo react with my hair which was slightly uncomfortable and simply made my hair shinier and brassier.
The next day I found out about the brownlights product and tried it out:
- I completely wet my hair
- Squirted the indigo blue shampoo into my palm and started shampooing immediately
- A little paranoid about leaving it in too long so caught myself counting out 3m
- Rinsed out thoroughly and completely followed by a deep conditioning mask. I used Garnier Fructis
During my blowout, I was amazed at the colour achieved. Just L-O-V-E-D it. I suspect a few more shampoos will improve the colour even more towards what I was hoping for.
I was a little concerned about the temporary "dryish strawish" texture of my hair as I was blowdrying however it didn't last. My hair quality didn't change.
I've never known a product to work so well for brunettes and simply deliver on it claims.
I am excited to make use of the conditioner and hope a deep conditioning mask is added to the lineup.
Thank-you!
Most Helpful Critical Review From blonde balayage to my natural brown hair So basically I have natural dark brown hair. For four years I had a blonde balayage. I finally went back to dark brown, but the bleach still remaining from the blonde made my dye jobs fade quickly for the bottom half of my hair. I would get an ashy dark brown dye. So I thought might as well try this. It did not make my hair dark brown again like the photo. It did however take away some of the warm ness and made the dye in my hair more ashy. I would not use this after I get my hair dyed, I would rather enjoy the new color and once I can see my old bleached half peeking through I'll use this just because it doesn't do bad but also doesn't get it back to the dark brown. It smells AMAZING just like the purple shampoo did when I was blonde. Doesn't dye my pillows or towels ever. If my nails are short it stays for a few hours on the short nail skin but other than that I don't see the blue anywhere else. I never write reviews but this is an important decision to make for this product so I want to help all I can.

Okay Redken what the heck is this? I was super excited to try this product since I recently had balayage color and it's a little brassy looking. Once I tried it the color was super blue- like smurf blue which is fine but it stained EVERYTHING. I going to have to buy a new shower curtain after this. That's how blue it is. The shampoo did not lather at all so I had to use a lot of it. Left my hair feeling super dry and brittle. I have naturally fine oily hair so my hair is NEVER dry. I gave it 2 stars because well the scent is nice but that's about it. I'll definitely be returning this.
I would buy this again! 5

Great lather and tones down the brassy tones
It does the job! 4

After about 2-3 washes, this product did as it said it would. It significantly decreased the red tones in my dyed brown hair. I use it every other time I wash my hair. The complaints people have on this product are minimal; yes, it has a stronger scent than most shampoos, but after using it a few times, you don't even notice it anymore. And yes, it will leave a blue residue on your hands after lathering, but just wash your hands right after and it's gone. It's really not a big deal and to me, its worth it!!
Great for Hispanic hair 5

My hair has been on a color journey- after a few years of natural brown hair with a blonde balayage, I turned to burgundy for awhile, then went dark dark brown, almost black for a couple years. I recently went a lighter brown and then added a caramel balayage with a new hair dresser. I forgot to tell her that I get super brassy and she didn't add a toner. After one wash my hair had ugly orange ends that I hated! I went to Ulta and picked up this Redken line for brunettes along with the Matrix brass off mask. My hair is beautiful after one mask and two washes with the redken line. A must have for my fellow Hispanic sisters with highlights!
I will probably try something new 3

It did reduce my brassiness and help my lowlights stand out. However, doesn't lather up well in your hair leaving hair feeling unwashed.
Causes waxy texture and build up 3
Alex from Arizona
Lathers well, has clen smell to it. However, left a waxy texture on my hair and caused a lot of build up on my hair. Had to use a clarifying shampoo to strip the build up of my hair and get it back to a normal texture
I would buy this product again and again 5

It really tones down any orange color you see in the sun
So far so good 4
Ana from South San Francisco
Noticed my hair is definitely shifted from that yukky brass color to now a beautiful light brown/cream tone. It does definitely stain, so make sure you wash your hands good.
Wonderful product 5
Ms Mandy from Detroit.
As a dark brunette with cool undertones this shampoo stays helps my color stay true to its luster. No brassy undertones.
It worked! 5

I'm shocked but after one use, it worked! I see a noticeable difference and my hair doesn't look orange anymore. People commented about the smell - It's not that bad. Def worth the money!! Buy both and shampoo and conditioner. If you can wash your hair outside of the shower, I'd recommend it. There is a lot of waiting time with the water running.
Amazing 5

Didn't stain my shower and gave my hair the perfect tint I was looking for ! Absolutely love it for a subtle color touch.
Love this!!! 4

This was perfect for my highlighted hair. Typically my hair gets rough after highlighting and the colors seem to get brassy and dull. The color did not seem to fad and they actually looked brighter.
Not my favorite 3

I was sent the Redken Brownlights shampoo and conditioner to review. I was able to use them a couple of times, but unfortunately they made my scalp very itchy. I discontinued use for this reason. I do tend to have sensitive skin, so this may have played a factor. Both the shampoo and conditioner were very pigmented (and actually caused some minor, temporary staining in my shower). I didn't notice any major difference in the tone of my hair after using, but as previously stated, I wasn't able to use them for an extended period of time.
Love it. 5

I love. This product
Great shampoo with shiny results 4
Dena20 from Howell, NJ
On first use of this shampoo my blue hands startled me. But, the wonderful smell and rich lather distracted and the color quickly rinsed away.
This shampoo rinsed cleanly without stripping my hair and left my hair sparkling with lovely highlights. I have recommended it to all the brunettes I know! I received this product as a #FreeSample to test.

Make sure to read the instructions before you use. Put on gloves so as not to stain your hands.

This shampoo and conditioner are amazing!!! The blue tint really counteracts my brassiness and it leaves my hair feeling soft and Granth healthy. I love the scent too!
Too Blue 2
Alilchey from USA
I washed my hair with this product and it turned my scalp blue. I had to wash my hair again with another shampoo to remove the blue color from my scalp. It didn't help with the brassiness but haven't seen any improvement. It also left my hair dry and brittle feeling like it wiped out what little moisture my hair had to begin with.
Easy to use Blue Shampoo 5
seminolebrandi from san antonio
Really liked using this blue shampoo by Redken! It smelled good and really revitalized my hair color... My only critique is that it would lather up a bit more but overall it was really easy to use and worked great!
Love this shampoo 5

I absolutely love this shampoo. My hair feels so soft and smooth afterwards
Great for toning hair down or brassy hair 5
Sweetayla from Tennessee
I loved this product very well it does have a cologne smell but it doesn't last in your hair this is great for people dying their hair or if u have wigs that need to be toned down .
Helps to Extend Color 4
S from MA
I have dark red "highlights" in my brunette hair. This shampoo helps to keep my hair dye fresh without the red fading to a brassy undertone.
What my hair needed 5
Erin S from Wa. State
It is blue, so you are encouraged to rinse well. But, it is blue magic. I have some highlights after a bayalage and in my brunette hair. It allows my hair to highlight the color with a bit of added tone to the red/blonde added color. I am a few weeks overdue with COVID restrictions at my salon so this does a great job adding life to my colored hair until I can get back in

I really like this. It made my hair shiny and just overall healthy. The only thing that I would change is how you apply
soft hair- but stains 3
Mac from Florida
The first time I used this shampoo the first thing I noticed was the color. I have always loved Redken products, but this was not my favorite. On the positive side it really did make my hair very soft. The smell was also very nice. It made you think you were just leaving a salon every time you used it. It also helped with the brassiness. However, it stained the tub and also turned my fingernails a blue tint. I had to spray the tub down every time I washed my hair. Although there were positive things I really like about this shampoo, I probably will not purchase it.
