Most Helpful Positive Review This product saved my hair!! This stuff is AMAZING. I can't tell you how many worthless purple shampoos I've gone through without seeing any results. Until recently i never knew that i should actually be using blue shampoo, as my natural hair color is a very ashy shade of dark brown. The Joico blue shampoo and conditioner removed the hideous "macaroni and cheese" crayola crayon highlights and copper tones. My hair feels soft, shiny, and fluffy. Would definitely recommend for any brunette-gone-blonde!
Most Helpful Critical Review Works but also strips out color from your hair So I used this product tonight for the first and last time. I just got my ombré 4 days ago and I wanted to try a product that would get the Orange/brass tones out of my hair and a stylist at ULTA reccomended this product to me. Well it worked for for most part, except now I'm left with slightly yellow hair. I'm assuming if I would have kept on using the product it might have fixed that too... Anyways. I will not continue to use this shampoo because it stripped some of the pigmentation out of my dark brown top shade, also no orange/brassiness since it is an ash. Im really dissapionted about that. But I guess if you were one shade all over this product might work for you. I'm going to return and just buy the joico color endure violet shampoo. No sulfate a so it shouldn't take pigmentation out of my top color. Wish me luck!

I personally think this blue shampoo works very well on my balayaged hair. (For comparison, I also have the Blue Malva by Aveda, which is nice, and the Kerastas purple shampoo which is wayyyyy too drying!!! But those are the only other two color shampoos I have so I'm no expert on color shampoos!) I have long, thick hair so I do probably use too much. I leave it in for about ten minutes before I rinse it. I don't find it to be drying like others I've tried. It's never turned my hair blue. I use it twice a week (or 3 depending on if I wash my hair that much). When I started using this between salon visits a few months ago, I received compliments on my new color, even though it was just this shampoo. It really helps tone the brassiness on my dark brown hair, and helps maintain a pretty blonde shade on the rest of my hair. I ordered two bottles on my recent Ulta order because I like it that much! (And they had a B1G1 50% off at the time.)
Best shampoo for blonde hair 5

Brings out the prettier blonde and banishes the orange brass 4

First off, don't be scared that it'll stain your tub or hands because it washes right off with soap and water as long as you don't let it sit there forever. I have best results using it on dry hair and letting it sit for a half hour or so. (It won't turn your hair blue) but I definitely notice a difference that my hair is less brassy. I have balayage bleached ends on brown hair (more reddish than ashy undertones so bleach always wants it to turn orange). I use this about 1-2x a week and happy with my results.
Pairs best with the conditioner 5
Yalexsi from Hudson MA
I have been looking for a shampoo + conditioner duo to take out the brassy tones of my natural brown high balayage hair. After going back and forth between purple and blue shampoo, I decided to pick the joico blue duo up and I absolutely love it!! It evens the tones of my hair, brightening it and making it look salon fresh! I recommend getting both products only because the blue shampoo CAN be drying if you're using it consistently, using the pairing conditioner and letting it sit for a few minutes will do your hair wonders!
WORKED IN ONE WASH 4
Sav from Seattle, WA
I naturally have a dark brown hair color and got golden highlight balliage that has grown out and looks orange compared to my natural hair color. One wash in and bam, orange color almost gone! Its definitely softer looking now. I didn't experience any dryness and my hair is normally pretty dry.
So far so good 4

I'm transitioning from a very dark brown with red undertones back to my natural which is a very ashy light brunette/dirty blonde have highlight + lowlights now to blend the grow out so safe to say there's a lot of red pieces on my head! 1 use (left on for 15 Mins) and I can definitely already see a difference. Kinda drying like other reviews say but not too bad compared to other toning shampoos, just did a deep conditioner after. Smells good too. Excited to continue to use!
Really works 5
Nikki from Rocklin
I bought the shampoo and conditioner. My hair is naturally dark brown and I had balyage done but the caramel color looked orangey. I tried 2 other shampoos before this one and neither of them toned out the orange. This one worked on the 1st try!!! Looks so much more natural now
I would definitely buy this again and I definitely recommend 5

I love this shampoo, I love my white highlights and this helps me keep them white
Did not work for me at all 1
Izzy from Brooklyn, NY
I got this from a friend after adding some blonde to my hair. When the blonde started to get brassy I tried this out thinking it would work but it literally did nothing. I've been using it for 2 weeks - I've left it on for 5 minutes, 10 minutes and nothing happened. It stains your hands blue and it left my hair feeling like heavy, dry straw. I wish I had as good of luck as others, but I would not repurchase for myself.
Worst money spent 1

Terrible!!! Stained my within 3 mins! I have a pale blueish/green tint and i tried to use clarifying shampoos to get it out and no use. Dont waste your money

Not for me. 2

I have balayage so I purchased this blue shampoo instead of a purple.
This product smells alright.
This product doesn't lather at all.
Didn't really see a difference in hair...
Left my hair texture horrible.
I followed with conditioner and hair mask and my hair came back to life, but I wouldn't recommend the product. Save your moneys and try a different one :)
Definitely busted my brass 5

I used this for one day and it turned my blonde highlights green. GREEN!! My hair looks gross as well as dry.
I would recommend 5
gray girl from Missouri
It does exactly as described, it really helped the brassiness in my hair. I am going completely gray, this really brightens my gray and keeps it shiney. I like how this doesn't dry my hair out.
Perfect for strawberry blond! 5
KG from Chattanooga
As a strawberry blond, my highlights always lift orange...this tones it down to a lovely shade like the day you leave the salon AND smells amazing. I pair with conditioner and use every couple of weeks. :)
Stained my hands! 1
BeautyVeev from Boston
I'm blue da boo de da boo di. I have used other blue and purple shampoos and they have never stained my hands like this! I would not recommend this product
I will not buy this product again 2

This shampoo weighs your hair Dow and leaves it limp and very dry.
Removed brass BUT... 2
Priscilla from Florida
Ok so I loved that this removed the brass from my hair BUT it leaves my hair greasy which sucks because I feel like this is the only shampoo that actually revived the blonde in my hair. I'll have to try another shampoo prior to using this like another reviewer said.
Great for highlights in dark hair 5
Jenn from WV
Very good shampoo and made my hair shiny and soft as well as helping the highlights not look brassy. Highly recommend.
A must for natural brunettes with blonde hair 4
Crystal from Idaho
I didn't know blue shampoo existed until my stylist told me to get a good blue shampoo after I went from dark brown to blonde, because naturally dark hair has more orange undertones than yellow. I thought I'd try this and was impressed with how well the brassy color was eliminated, after using purple it only slightly cooled my hair down but this is more effective. The only thing I don't like is it seems like I need to use a lot of it, but it has a pretty color and smells good. Leave it on a few minutes and it works wonders. First time I left it on 15mins to get the orange out.
Favorite for my light blonde hair! 5
Buff Blonde Mama from Oklahoma
This stuff works better for toning than any purple shampoo I've tried. I have thick, long, blonde hair with shadow roots. I loathe brassiness. I switch between the Joico Blue and Blonde Life Brightening.
Cannot be without this stuff! 4
Gammie from Indiana
I think this tones my highlights well.
Just what I needed 5
Muva from California
I am a brunette and just got a balayage so my hair was kinda brassy. Found this product and decided to give it a try since I read blue shampoo is better for brunettes. I used the conditioner along with it and my hair looks 10x better than it did the day before! Not embarrassed to walk out my house anymore lol
Very good 5
