Most Helpful Positive Review This product saved my hair!!
This stuff is AMAZING. I can't tell you how many worthless purple shampoos I've gone through without seeing any results. Until recently i never knew that i should actually be using blue shampoo, as my natural hair color is a very ashy shade of dark brown. The Joico blue shampoo and conditioner removed the hideous "macaroni and cheese" crayola crayon highlights and copper tones. My hair feels soft, shiny, and fluffy. Would definitely recommend for any brunette-gone-blonde!
Most Helpful Critical Review Works but also strips out color from your hair
So I used this product tonight for the first and last time. I just got my ombré 4 days ago and I wanted to try a product that would get the Orange/brass tones out of my hair and a stylist at ULTA reccomended this product to me. Well it worked for for most part, except now I'm left with slightly yellow hair. I'm assuming if I would have kept on using the product it might have fixed that too... Anyways. I will not continue to use this shampoo because it stripped some of the pigmentation out of my dark brown top shade, also no orange/brassiness since it is an ash. Im really dissapionted about that. But I guess if you were one shade all over this product might work for you. I'm going to return and just buy the joico color endure violet shampoo. No sulfate a so it shouldn't take pigmentation out of my top color. Wish me luck!

Ok so I loved that this removed the brass from my hair BUT it leaves my hair greasy which sucks because I feel like this is the only shampoo that actually revived the blonde in my hair. I'll have to try another shampoo prior to using this like another reviewer said.
Great for highlights in dark hair
Jenn from WV
Very good shampoo and made my hair shiny and soft as well as helping the highlights not look brassy. Highly recommend.
A must for natural brunettes with blonde hair
Crystal from Idaho
I didn't know blue shampoo existed until my stylist told me to get a good blue shampoo after I went from dark brown to blonde, because naturally dark hair has more orange undertones than yellow. I thought I'd try this and was impressed with how well the brassy color was eliminated, after using purple it only slightly cooled my hair down but this is more effective. The only thing I don't like is it seems like I need to use a lot of it, but it has a pretty color and smells good. Leave it on a few minutes and it works wonders. First time I left it on 15mins to get the orange out.
Favorite for my light blonde hair!
Buff Blonde Mama from Oklahoma
This stuff works better for toning than any purple shampoo I've tried. I have thick, long, blonde hair with shadow roots. I loathe brassiness. I switch between the Joico Blue and Blonde Life Brightening.
Cannot be without this stuff!

I think this tones my highlights well.
Just what I needed
Muva from California
I am a brunette and just got a balayage so my hair was kinda brassy. Found this product and decided to give it a try since I read blue shampoo is better for brunettes. I used the conditioner along with it and my hair looks 10x better than it did the day before! Not embarrassed to walk out my house anymore lol

Very great product
Simultaneously drying and greasy concoction
Robyn from Montana
This shampoo is extremely drying. I have lightened hair. It is dry. This made it feel like total straw. The accompanying conditioner makes it feel like greasy straw. It's also more of a blue green, not a blue violet like I was hoping for. The smell is nice but the product is not.
Did not work
Suzanne from Spicewood
I followed product directions but it did nothing for the orange hue.
Danette from Chattanooga, TN
I see no difference in first use! I will try it again, but I really need this brassy calmed down as I grow out my greys. If I get better results, I will leave a better review.
Works okay for color, but SUPER drying..

I have fine, thin, usually oily hair and this product still managed to dry out my hair. My hair is light brown that I highlight to a near baby blonde/champagne blonde that gets a bit brassy and figured I try Joico out, but unless you have a life saving deep conditioner to save your hair and want an itchy scalp for days- I'd look elsewhere. I have used the shampoo/conditioner right after highlighting my hair and it has never caused any blue/green dying of my hair, for what it's worth.
A Great Toner For Brunettes
Nini from Sacramento, CA
The trick to blue, purple, and green shampoo is to apply the product before you shower. Dampen your hair with a spray bottle. Apply the shampoo all over your hair and let it set for 10 - 15 minutes. Then wash it out in the shower. You can follow up with a regular shampoo to clean your scalp. Be sure to condition your hair after using a toning shampoo. Leave the conditioner on for 3 - 5 minutes, then rinse.

Works a little bit but...
Bababa from Virginia
Very drying. A very light shade of blue for both shampoo and conditioner. Works on very light brown brassy hair. Unfortunately I think my hair is just too dark orange even borderline red but I did have pieces of my hair that were way lighter and it worked on those pieces. But now, my hair just looks very uneven. :(
Won't dry your hair out

I love this brand in general. I found this shampoo more hydrating then other purple shampoos. It works for blondes too.
Very little change
amallo from Kansas
My hair brasses out rather quickly so I wanted to get a trial bottle of this to try as I've used various other brands over the years. Disappointed. I can't say it didn't work but it made my hair extremely dry with very little brassyness removed. Compared to Matrix, this is definitely a fail.
Does as advertised
Sissy from Sierra vista
Natural red-head. My roots are probably a lvl 8 strawberry and the top layers exposed to the sun are a mix of lvl 9 strawberry/copper/neutral blondes with my ends being a lvl 10 blonde. For whatever reason lately the copper is trending toward orange and my ends are almost crayola orange. Probably mineral buildup as we have hard water. Clarifying shampoos didn't work. Vinegar just deepened the reds without touching the orange. Purple shampoo neutralized some of the issue but not all. Got this and after one wash the orange tones are down to my near normal intensity. Another wash or two and the color should be leveled out. Not sure why my natural hair color is freaking out but for you natural strawberry's undergoing too coppery issues, I recommend this product. Hair was still soft and curls remained intact and flouffy.
Not worth it!!!

I got balayage done and my hair was lifted from a level 2 to a level 6-7. When I left the salon my hair was still pretty brassy/orange, so I thought trying this shampoo would hopefully neutralize the tone of my hair. I followed the directions, left the shampoo in my hair for the maximum 5 minutes, rinsed it out, followed it up with the conditioner, and let my hair air dry. There was no change in the tone of my hair at all and it felt very dry (probably because the second ingredient is sodium laureth sulfate). I also tried applying it directly to my dry hair and letting it sit in hopes of a noticeable difference, but I still didn't observe any change in tone. I continued using this shampoo for 3 more washes except it didn't reduce my brassiness at all so I finally decided to stop using it. It does nothing but dry out your hair. I wouldn't recommend this shampoo.
Good for color but dry

The color protecting was good but made my hair dry and scalp itch
Hannah from Uniontown, Ohio
After reading the reviews, I was skeptical to buy, but i'm so glad I did! I found it lathered well, but I did notice that after working the product into my hair for awhile, it would stop to lather. After my first use I felt as if it had stripped my color slightly, but on my second use I could definitely see it starting to work. The one downside I would say is that it's formulated with sulfates and parabens, like the majority of shampoos, but that doesn't bother me all that much. Overall, I will continue to use and repurchase.
No lather, doesn't clean
elle from nyc
I have dark brown hair that was given a lift to medium auburn/burgundy and my stylist recommended using a blue shampoo to reduce my hair's natural tendency to go quickly go brassy after coloring. He actually recommending Matrix's Brass Off but I couldn't find it in store and this Joico was the only one available. I normally use "clean/non-toxic" shampoos that don't contain any sulfates, parabens, etc. but was willing to compromise and give this shampoo a try. It DO NOT LATHER at all and doesn't seem to clean my hair that well. So now I use my regular gentle non-toxic shampoo first, then this blue shampoo. The associated conditioner wasn't in stock so I use my normal condition (Giovanni) but only sparingly. Honestly, I don't see much of a difference and I don't know if the blue shampoo will continue to keep the brassiness at bay. I've only used this 3x so I guess time will tell. I'm just irritated that it doesn't lather and doesn't really work as a hair cleaner like a shampoo should.

i use once a week
AK from TN
I have naturally straight, black hair with balayage, done about 2 months ago. It's nearing time to get it done but figured I'd try something that might hold me off until I get to the salon. I've used both the shampoo and conditioner twice now, and was surprised to see from my first use that the different shades of brown in my hair already blended better. It's not drastic but its made noticeable improvement already. The formula feels a bit drying so I've still used my daily conditioner afterwards, and my hair feels great. The shampoo comes out looking suspicious but it lathers like crazy and I just leave it in for about 5 mins.
Brunette to Gray Transition
Rosie from New Hampshire
I am making the transition to my natural hair color after many years of coloring my dark brown hair. After 11 months of growth, my shoulder length, curly, thick hair has areas of faded brown that are still growing out. I don't want to cut it so short but the brassy color isn't very pretty. So I tried this for the first time and wished I had done it sooner - what a difference after only 3 uses. My brassiness has diminished greatly and this tones my hair for a more natural blend with my gray. The orangey color is gone! I plan to use this 3x per week now until I'm 100% gray. Great for brunettes who's color has faded by going natural during the grow out phase
Wish this existed years ago
Kat from CA
I wish this had existed decades ago. I'm a natural brunette who has been every color in the rainbow and has fought unwanted reddish orange undertones. I'm 51 and have been coloring my hair since 13. I hate most Ash boxed dyes as they are harsh looking. I recently bleached out several years of black dude from my now salt and pepper hair, suffered with a too light for me blonde because of damage, and was finally able to get to a dark ash blonde only to see it become orangey after a week. Enter this shampoo. I lathered up, let it sit while I washed and shaved, rinsed, conditioned and dried my hair. It looked amazing! And it felt great too! I've seen others use this on YouTube and you can plainly see their after results leaves their hair looking in better condition than before. That's what prompted me to try this one. When I think of decades of living with beautiful brown shades that went reddish orange, it's maddening. All I needed was this. For the record, when I was a lighter blonde this worked too in conjunction with a purple shampoo, but now that I'm a darker blonde this is all I need. Would definitely buy again.
Didn't do anything
Ercha from Pittsburgh, PA
I have used this at least 10 times. I used it before and after my regular shampoo. I've used just this and no other shampoo. With and without conditioner. I've left it on between 1 and 10 minutes. my hair had never looked any different. Still with copper/orange/brassy tones. Safe to say I would not recommend this product. On to the next brand.
