Most Helpful Positive Review Total Surprise! I received this primer complimentary from Influenster and I was not a fan. I never had a matte primer, but as a model I've had it on my face before so I knew what to expect. When I first put this on, it qas do thick and sticky, I really wasn't a fan of it. After putting foundation on, and my make up look lasted all day all night, I realized I may want to try it again. I tried the primer again, and it went on a bit smoother and again my make up look lasted over 12 hours with no budge to come off. I was completely surprised.
Most Helpful Critical Review The worst primer ever I'm always open to new primers especially ones that don't cost an arm and a leg. This one though is a hard pass. There is a difference between providing s matte finish and plain drying out someone's skin.
There are a few cons for me that make me never want to use this again: way too thick which makes you have to really squeeze to get it out, the thickness works against you applying it to your face, and if it sits too long you get huge dry patches on your face. So you definitely can't apply the primer and the donyour eyebrows and then do foundation, because by the time you got to applying foundation you'll have several huge dry patches. It also doesn't make the companion foundation work any better. I'd actually prefer my primer to be moisturizing if I'm using a mattifying foundation.
Reviewed by 308 customers Worst primer I've ever used 1
Alyssa from Chattanooga, TN
I bought this primer thinking it would help my oily skin. The first couple times I used it, it was super heavy and stiff on my skin and felt like concrete. It also dried too quickly for me to evenly spread it out leaving dry-looking patches on my skin.
After reading reviews I realized maybe I wasn't using it correctly, so this morning I warmed it up in my hands first and then tapped it into my skin. While it did generally spread better, it left me with white flakes all over my skin. I threw it away in the trash right then.
VERY Mattifying! 5

I've got extremely oily skin and the only primer that was powerful enough to control it was the Makeup Forever Step 1 Mattifying Primer, however not only is it not a cruelty free brand, it's also very pricey. This is the perfect dupe for so much less, vegan ingredients, and cruelty free! I love it! I would say this is only for the oiliest skin though. I wouldn't use it for combination skin.
IF YOU'RE HAVING TROUBLE WITH THIS, READ THE DIRECTIONS 5
Nia from Somewhere in the US
This primer really grips the foundation and provides a bomb matte look. However, you have to WORK with this primer. Pump out a SMALL AMOUNT and warm it up between your fingertips; after it's a more liquid consistency, PAT IT INTO YOUR FACE. This provides a smooth and long lasting base for makeup. Based on the negative reviews of tightness/pilling/gray cast/thick consistency, people have applied this primer straight out of the container and did NOT read the directions. Also, using small amounts ensures the primer will last for a good while. I was turned off from the primer at first until I learned how to use it; now it's a staple. It's amazing when used properly. If you have oily/combination or even normal skin, BUY THIS. You will NOT regret it. 15/10
Really weird consistency 2
D from Seattle
This primer has the strangest consistency, it's like glue. I think it helped on my T zone but it made my skin look dull. I only bought this because my go to primer was out, won't be buying again.
Horrible 1

I had high expectations for this stuff bc I love their matte setting spray. Its very sticky and makes your face feel stiff. And after about 10 mins my foundation is super cakey and gross.
Returned the next day! 1
A.Buyer from Burlington,NC
This is the worst primer I've ever bought. It was sticky and didn't even smooth pores and/or wrinkles. Made such a mess under my foundation that I had to take all my makeup off and start all over again without using this "primer". Returned the next day!
Nope 3
Aysia from Ventura
This is so thick and sticky. I have pretty oily skin and this made my skin look so dry. Within minutes of having it on it started to leave a white cast on my face. Wiped it off immediately.
AWFUL 1
Lex from Illinois
Do not buy this primer. It's terrible. It's essentially glue and then your powder makeup will stick to your face and you'll like a clown. I'm returning this ASAP.
Love love love 5

I have very oily and sensitive skin & I have tried many primers and this has been my favorite. It leaves my make up nice and matte four hours and doesn't break me out like other ones do. This stuff is heaven sent
Glue for your face 1
Friday13 from New Jersey
This primer has a glue like consistency and is super thick. Not only does it suck the life out of your face, it sucks your soul out as well! It definitely mattifies, but no foundation or powder will ever sit on top of it without caking and pilling. My advice is to use it on no makeup days just to control your oils. Not under your makeup!
I wouldn't purchase this product again 2
Stacie from Ga
This product is very thick. It does cover very well, but it feels heavy and sticky.
Like nothing else ❤️ 5

The only things that had EVER worked my shiny t-zone. Shocked and amazed. Not to mention, keep my makeup beautiful all day long! It is a thinker primer, but a solid stippling brush is an excellent applicator.
Thick and STICKY 1
Knicole30 from IL
I am a huge fan of nyx and own lots of their products but this is hands down the worst primer and product that I've ever purchased ever! The primer barely squeezes out of the bottle and the primer comes out extremely sticky and thick. Makes your face feel extremely stiff like you just sprayed loads of hairspray straight on your face. Also covers unevenly and leaves you foundation looking horribly patchy and cakey. I'll end up throwing this tube away.
It started with a horrible bottle.. 1
LunePie from Arkansas
This primer is THICK... It hardly comes out of the tiny hole. I ended up using literally all my strength to get a small amount out. After messing around with it for a bit I had to cut a larger hole. So I am already frustrated with the horrible bottle. After applying the primer to my Tzone and added a small layer of foundation it looked great...UNTIL I started getting dressed for work... Before I was leaving I did a check over to find that the area where I applied the primer was peeling and looked like I had HORRIBLE dry skin. I have tried to use this primer a few time since and the same thing happens EVERYTIME.
works fair, but won't last long 3

This seems like a decent primer; however, you have to use a lot. If used Mon-Fri, I'd be surprised if it lasted 2 weeks. Returned.
Not a fan 3
Aubby from Missouri
I do not like this. The product itself is very tacky and seems almost counterintuitive to be layering this on your oily prone skin. It settled in my lines and did not do any favors for my pores.
DO NOT USE IF YOU HAVE A DRY SKIN/FACE! 2
Kolakalu from Washington
Title says it all! It dried out my face even worse and made my makeup flake in every possible spot, my makeup didn't even last 2 hours. The only reason it's getting at least two stars is that I liked how it felt after it dried on my face, since it dried very quick. I'm honestly very surprised that the primer didn't work as well as I wanted it to, since I've always loved the NYX brand and their products. Guess this one wasn't for me!
Works OK, but the product itself is gross 2
Cat from Whittier, CA
The product was clumpy and watery when I opened it. It feels gross until you rub it together. Works OK as a primer, but why should I deal with with an icky consistency when there are other great products out there that look and feel nicer?
Love this primer 5
Rachie2013 from Austin, TX
I bought this on a whim and it does not disappoint, it's held up better than my Urban Decay De-Slick primer!!
Best primer for oily skin! 5
Mc from Florida
This is the only primer that's kept my face from getting oily all day being in clinic! To use it though, you should place it on your fingers and to warm and rub it together, then pat it on your t-zone and anywhere you need before foundation. It does have that bit of a "glue" feel at first , but I like that in a primer !
Great Primer 5
Shaleta from Suffolk, VA
I love this product and will buy it again. I am left with a matte, but very natural look. A little bit really goes a long way.
Great for oily skin 5
Marie from Kentucky
This is the only primer that keeps my skin from getting oily! It makes my makeup last all day.
This is the BEST primer for oily skin! 5
nikki bb from California
I have really oily skin. Usually within an hour of applying make up, I have to dab off the oil. I've found some great primers in the past, like Becca, but they all change their formula and become useless. This is a very low cost match for it. I flew fifteen hours across the country and my make up stayed on like I had just applied it.
Now, it is thick and it does cake if you put too much on in an area, so practice! I don't see that as a bad thing because it needs to be thick to work. I've spent hundreds of dollars trying to find a primer that works and this is the best out there.
Use it correctly, it's amazing. 5
JackieO from Stockton
I love love love this primer. It must be used correctly to achieve a flawless matte look. Squeeze the product onto your finger tips (it should look waxy), with both hands warm the product up until it melts, once melted pat the product wherever you tend to be oily. Seems like everyone leaving negative reviews is just rubbing it on their face straight out of the tube. Don't do that. With this primer I've been able to wear a hydrating foundation which is something I'd never thought I'd be able to do. I only apply to my T-zone and it works wonders. Squeeze, melt, pat. It's simple
The best primer for my oily skin 5
Niki from Red Oak, TX
I have very oily skin and this primer works better than any other primer I've tried. I read some of the other reviews and yes, it does feel very sticky and almost glue like as you're putting it on. BUT, as the back of the bottle says, if you lightly pat your face with your fingers after spreading it around it will dry instantly and leaves a matte finish. My makeup stays on all day without getting oily & shiny.
