Most Helpful Positive Review Best thing for my thin curls
Okay I don't ever write reviews but after one use this product did magic to my thin 3B curls. I only use a cleanser twice a week because I get bad build up and my curls look blah anymore the two days and then my curls are dryer than a desert. Well before his product I used redkin basic cleanser and it would strip my curls dry. After one use this product brought life to my curls they are light bouncy and VERY VERY SOFT. I followed with the deva curl conditioner and sprayed some deva curl set it free spray and man do my curls look good. Would recommend this to anyone with thin curls that need a cleanser that doesn't strip.
Most Helpful Critical Review Leaves buildup, doesn't bust it
I'm so confused by all the glowing reviews for this product. I was so excited to try it, but it has not met ANY of my expectations for a "buildup buster". I've tried using it several times now, with the hope that I can make it work for me, but every time it fails: my hair is heavy and weighed down, greasy (especially the roots), stringy, zero body, and it takes forever to dry. Ironically, it feels dirtier than ever, and I need something to washout the massive buildup this leaves behind. I massage it in and then spend ages trying to make sure it's rinsed out, but nothing works. My hair is normally wavy in the drier months, very curly in the more humid months, thick, and with lots of natural body, for reference. Clearly, I'm the lone dissenter here (though there are other reviews outside this site with similar experiences), and I just don't get it. There's none of the "lightness" or "bounce" that others have described, and my curls are less defined than ever...flatter than flat. I love all my other DevaCurl products, which I use regularly, but I just can't get behind this one. Going into the trash and will never be repurchased.

This cleans without stripping and it actually curls my wavy hair into a cute scrunchy style
Hair Felt Sticky After Multiple Rinses
Gab from New Jersey
I've been searching for a clarifying/deep cleansing product for my curls and had high hopes for the build up buster since I've been an avid Deva Curl consumer for yeeears. As a naturally curly girl I use a cocktail of creams and gels to define my hair which means my scalp is often subject to product build up. I was excited to try this product but it really missed the mark for me. I applied the product as suggested and even after 3 rinses my hair was sticky to the touch and weighed down. I had to follow up with a different shampoo which defeated the purpose. Might work for someone else but not for me.
Burned my scalp
phoebs from Seattle, WA
I was using this, because, you know, you're supposed to clarify and remove build up, like a good curly girl, to make your curls pop again. What I couldn't understand was why my scalp kept getting more irritated. I used it the other week, and my scalp was so irritated - I had patches that felt hot all over my head. As I was trying to find something to fix my very irritated scalp, I stumbled upon whole groups of women who were Devacurl users who were having the same scalp issues I did.
So, I grabbed some Head and Shoulders, and within 24 hrs, my scalp was much calmer.
Head and Shoulder's people.
I have used the deep sea repair treatment, the B'Leave In, the volumizing foam, and all their gels - my hair is now a mess. My scalp is still annoyed with me. I have a whole ton of products I can't use now b/c something in them is messing with my head and hair.
Don't believe the hype.
SIGNIFICANT HAIR LOSS
Rika1019 from New Jersey
I used Devacurl for 3 months. Two months in I noticed my hair thinning. One day I put my hair in a ponytail and I noticed I had bald spots on the sides above my ears. My hair now looks like postpartum loss. I discontinued using the shampoo, conditioner, buildup buster, styling cream and hairspray. Please stay away!

Completely dried out my hair stripped some of curls and smelled like superglue while using it
Works very well

I use this once a month followed by a deep conditioner. I call it a "deep" cleaning. It's vital to use deep conditioner or else it will dry out ur hair. My curls look amazing! It takes out all the build up!
I love this stuff!

I really love this for buildup. I am a no-poo curly girl and this really helped my scalp. I have used acv to help with buildup, but really feel like this works better. It also makes my hair super soft.
Zizi from Staten Island, NY
I love this product! I wet my hair and apply it from scalp to ends, this stuff makes it super easy to detangle. I don't use it as shampoo tho, just as a "pre-poo" to get gel and product out and then I follow up with shampoo and condition like normal.

Recently had my hair cut at a DevaChan salon and was advised to only use this product 1-2x a month because I have color-treated hair and the color will fade more quickly if I use it more than that. I bought it because I was going to be on vacation and wanted to make sure my hair wouldn't suffer too much from being at the beach/pool. It has a nice feel and your hair definitely smells clean thereafter.

This is the only product on the market that is not a "clarifier".
I don't need to remove chlorine buildup
in my hair! I just live in an area with extremely hard water and every couple of weeks I need a buildup buster.
Love DevaCurl products!

Use this once a month, to get rid of any product buildup in my hair. After the first use I instantly felt my hair clean and my scalp fresh after the shower.
Actually makes my scalp feel clean!

Makes my scalp feel clean/refreshed and is the best smelling Devacurl product in my opinion!
Leaves Hair & Scalp Really Clean
Beauty 2 from SPFLD, Il
This is a great deep cleaner, but still it is mild. Would be cheaper per oz to buy larger size , but this bottle makes it easy to target scalp.

i recently cut my hair.
31 years had past since my last hair cut, and my hair was in locks for a couple of decades.
though my hair had been washed a few times, i shopped more specifically for a scalp cleanse.
cleanse it did.
not to get gritty, though i was startled at the hair clippings yuck remaining in the tub.
Good deep cleanser

I liked how clean my hair was after using this without feeling like it stripped my curls of all their moisture. My only complaint would be that I am more frizzy the day after use. Would recommend using a deep conditioner after using this product.

Too early to review

I am going with my natural hair and "no more heat styling" phase and trying to start out right! Saw a lot of good reviews online and decided to give this a shot! Just used once so far, so too early to review but I trust my other curlies/wavys

At 1st I thought this product was going to be A disappointment because it didn't really lather at all but after I was done and styled my hair, I had all of this curl that I thought I had lost after having my child. It really has been a miracle for me. So now when my curls start to look lifeless, I wash with this and bring them back to life.
Disappointed customer from Las Vegas
At first it worked fine for my curls. It made them super bouncy and more defined. But after about 3 uses, this product stopped working as well. Now it just doesn't cleanse my hair at all. This doesn't even feel like I put shampoo in my hair when I use it. Also this had the same consistency and smell as super glue. Do not recommend. There are, in my opinion, cheaper and better alternatives out there.
Great for color-treated hair
SD_NatureGirl from San Diego
I tried this when it was half off & I'm glad I did. It's a fairly thin gel, but really cleanses my scalp & hair without drying or stripping my long, dry, color-treated hair.
Florina from Hollister, CA
This was ok, it kind of made my hair more drier, I guess this works for some curly hair, but it didn't really work for me.
It's a no from me
Sarai from Maryland
I wanted this to be my miracle product. I normally have an oily scalp so I hoped this would help combat it. I made sure to rinse this out very well. The result...my hair was greassssy! Nothing cute about how my hair looks!
Lyss from California
Even after washing my hair, it would still feel oily from all the products I use daily on my curly hair. After using this, it completely took all product buildup out of my hair and actually made my hair feel clean. And it smells good to me so i'm not sure why some say it doesn't. ( I use this once a week)
