Most Helpful Positive Review Awesome!
1 1/4 barrel is perfect size for undone curly/wave used as a wand but does have clip. Creates an effortless look. My waves/curls stayed for two days!! :) My hair is thick (I get it thinned out every 6 months) and mid back in length. It takes me 15-20 mins to do my entire head. Only product used: Keratin Complex Thermo-Shine ($20 @ Ulta)
Most Helpful Critical Review I'm actually so sad about this product
Was time to replace the college curling iron that I'd purchased five years ago. Because I use a curling iron so regularly, I was hoping this would be a little splurge item that would last me five more years. I'm sad to report that I've gone back to using my $30 college curling iron. My hairdresser said Hot Tools was the way to go, but after this purchase, I'm wondering if I somehow got a lemon. It doesn't grip my hair, and I have to start over on about every other curl because my hair slides right out of the barrel—which is so frustrating. By noon, my curls have fallen flat, no matter what products I use. At the beginning of the day, I have bouncy curls—but by lunchtime, I have "walk-of-shame" looking waves. Ugh. Such a bummer.

Does not hold a curl even for a second

I love it
Pulls hair out and curls short lived
CurlSeeker from Houston
My hair is not hard to curl. Thinner, wavey, shoulder length. The hair kept getting stuck in the spring mechanism and getting pulled out. Curls were gone in 3 hours which is unusual for me. Took it back, not a fan. I like the Paul Mitchell irons better!

Curl fell almost instantly and not into a pretty beach wave... Just into a mess.

I was in need of a new curler and decided i was going to spend money on a good one. i wanted to love it but was disappointed. The curls don't hold at all. I've used it multiple times and still aren't satisfied. I dont know about anyone else but my curler's paint has started to chip off and land on my face while I'm using it. I normally don't leave reviews, but this one i had to. Wish i could get my money back.
Very happy with it.

Glad I bought it. It's great.

I've used many curling irons before from many different brands. This one was nicely made and the price was reasonable so I decided to try it. I regret buying it because my hair and the entire room smelled burnt after. Even after days of curling my hair I walk into a room and people ask if something is burning. Took it back and got another one and same problem.
I would buy this prodcut again

Very dissatisfied. Gone back to using my cheap remington
Works like the rest, but black-coating chips over time

Curling iron works like all my other Hot Tools Curling Irons/wands have in the past. However, overtime (roughly a year) the black finish has started to chip. I was extremely disappointed to find this, especially because I rarely use hair products that could cause this - and when I do, I never spray it on the iron!
Doesn't hold the curl

I have thick hair and bought it cause if the reviews. The curl was exactly what I wanted except it didn't hold. I have a hard time finding curlers that hold I use the flat iron her styler that I've had for years and the hot tools pink wand. Both hold for days Disappointed cause it wasn't cheap And can't return because the box was thrown away

I love it however the temperature control dial does move very easy so if you travel make sure you check it before burning your hair at 450° like me 😂
JJ from White Stone VA
My hair curls super easily, but not with this iron. Same as some other reviewers, I couldn't get the thing to actually curl my hair. Even using the highest heat setting, the result was mediocre, unlike almost any other iron I've ever used. Not sure if it's because the clamp isn't tight enough or I just got a lemon... ? Either way, I'm not at all impressed.
Highly Recommend this Product!

I have used Hot Tools for years but this was my first purchase of the Black Gold version and its better than the Regular gold version. These curling irons last a very long time. You might pay more at the beginning but you do t have to keep buying curling irons like the cheaper versions.
I disliked the ease of this product.

It was difficult to use. I have the beachwaver and this product doesn't produce the wonderful curls that the beachwaver does. I only bought a different curling iron because the beachwaver breaks often.
i like it so much i am thinking of buyer an additional size
Jules from Nashville, TN
The clamp is not to tight against the barrel and doesn't pull my hair when curling. The barrel is very smooth and can be easily cleaned. I like the length and flexibility of movement of the electrical cord.
Very good. Just what i wanted

Nice shine and evenly heated
Horrible, do not buy

Decided to whip out for the first time after ordering it months ago and curled my entire head of hair, only to have the curling iron break on me. I was on my very last piece of hair and when I went to release the lever it bent all the way down, leaving me to scream and have a panic attack because my hair was stuck to this curling iron I couldn't unclamp. I was almost positive the hot iron was gonna burn my hair off, but thankfully after freaking out and yanking it out of my hair I was able to save it. The curling iron is a piece of garbage and is now completely useless. I spent full price for this thing, hoping it would be better than my bed head wand but I was sadly, sadly disappointed.
Waste of $

Bought this hoping to achieve big loose curls, but was sadly disappointed. This was my first and only time using this and from the get go this thing has been so hard to use, it felt impossible to get a good normal looking curl. Not to mention I was working on my very last chunk of hair and the barrel got stuck in my hair. When I tried pulling down on the handle to release it, the handle literally bent almost all the way down, leaving me to have a complete panic attack because this 400 degree curling iron is STUCK around my hair and I accepted the fact this chunk of hair would be singed completely off. Thank god my hair survived, but now my curling iron is useless and was the BIGGEST waste of my hard earned money. Don't plan on ever buying hot tools again.
Such a good curling iron

I love how this curling iron heats up quickly and puts such a great finish on my hair.
HAIR SMELLS BURNT
Hannah from Frisco, TX
I've used a curling iron for years and wanted to try something with a thicker barrel. Picked this one up. The first time I used this, I set it at the temperature I always curl my hair on and used the same heat protectant I always have. After I was done, not only did my curls immediately fall out but my hair had an awful burnt smell. So bad that my husband made a comment on it. I washed my hair two days later and even after the wash, the burnt smell still lingered. I tried it again after a few weeks at a lower heat setting, SAME THING. Unfortunately I lost the receipt and cannot return so I will be tossing this thing in the trash. Would not recommend to anyone!

Heats up fast, durable
Do not purchase

I got this as a Christmas present, so I'm at least glad I didn't have to fork over the price tag. Used it ONCE and although it curled my hair ok, it wasn't anything special. Just tried plugging it in and the stupid thing won't even turn on now. This is going straight into the garbage because I don't have the gift receipt for it either. I've used hot tools before and have never had an issue like that where it breaks literally less than a month after purchasing it. Don't waste your money, you can find better quality curling iron and one that isn't so fragile.
Perfect, Longlasting Curls, Every time!
Southern Girl from Aiken, SC
This curling iron is absolutely perfect in every way. Heats up super fast, great slip, and a clip that does not leave a mark on your hair. Curls last all day long. Love this hair appliance!
best curling iron!

I absolutely love this curling iron! i have very thick coarse hair and it gives me flawless hair that lasts! I cant say enough good things about it. there is only one thing I could think of that wasnt the best and that is that its a litttle short for my medium-long hair, but its definitely my favorite hot tools.. tool that ive bought so far!
