Most Helpful Positive Review Salon worthy
I work at a salon and this is my favorite shampoo to use when shampooing clients! The smell is amazing and it works so well when cleaning the hair and making it feel incredibly moisturized. For those saying it doesn't lather too well: really make your hair very wet before putting this on. Make sure your hair is completely wet and use a small amount at first. If you put too much one, it won't lather as well. I'd say at first use put a small amount in your hands and rub them together to get that lather going and then massage it into your scalp. From there add more based on how much you need for your hair type. Another great thing about this product is that while it is not sulfate free, it cleans my hair so well and I don't have any damage after using it multiple times a week!
Most Helpful Critical Review Revised Review - Never again!
Have to revise my original review from May. Originally, I LOVED this product. It made my thick, coarse hair nice and smooth. However, after using for several months, this product has thinned my hair considerably, to the point where my hairdresser suggested I use a shampoo to thicken my hair as I have two spots where you can see my scalp! What I realized is that while I thought this made my hair smooth, it actually made it very thin. After years of thick hair, I am now using a thickening shampoo, something I never thought I would have to use. Two weeks after discontinuing, I have noticed less hair loss. In addition, after doing research on the internet, several other people experienced the same. Never again will I purchase Paul Mitchell products!

Smells delicious. Lathers like a dream. Cleans without stripping.
I will be buying again even though I bought it thinking that the original shampoo was no longer a thing. I was wrong about that, but this one smells and feels so good I think I'm going to stick with it.

I was so disappointed in all the Paul Mitchell that I ordered and this is the last product that I really haven't used and kind of afraid to use because his product line has not worked for me.

Love love this shampoo and conditioner. I have fine curly hair that was feeling dry. After using this shampoo and conditioner my hair wasn't frizzy. It doesn't weigh your hair down and gives you just enough moisture. Wish I'd known about this line years ago.
By far the BEST shampoo I have ever used!!
Cindy from Chester, VA
I have used a lot of shampoos over the years. This is by far the best I have ever used. I have fine, thin hair and this shampoo leaves my hair feeling soft without it feeling flat like many moisturizing shampoos.
Allie from Arizona
I absolutely love this shampoo for so many different reasons. It smells great, my hair and scalp feel really clean after using it, it's helped the eczema on my scalp A LOT, and it really softens my hair and makes it look healthy. I think it's a bit pricey for the amount in the bottle, but the larger size is a better price for how much is in it. I have slightly thin hair and I don't have to use a large amount of the product so it lasts a while.

I have been on a mission to find the perfect sulfate free shampoo and I just end up frustrated. Most sulfate free shampoos that I have tried make my hair feel dirty and weighed down after using them. Not this one. The lather is amazing, it makes my hair feel clean, but not dry, it smells amazing - it's what I've been searching for. I also purchased the matching cream rinse with this and the duo is what my hair has been needing. Plus, I smell like I just stepped out a spa every time I wash my hair. Definitely repurchasing!!
I would buy again

This whole entire line smells weird to me and I do not like it it dries out my hair it doesn't work on my curls which is very strange because I love Paul Mitchell hair products. So I am very disappointed in Paul Mitchell and this line of products that they have produced.
Worth my money
Cosgal from San Jose
I cannot get enough of the smell. It lathers really well while not weighing down my hair. I've been trying to find a shampoo for my long coarse hair and this seems to do the best job. Very impressed and will be repurchasing.
This product is a miracle for my hair.

I love the Paul Mitchell Awapuhi line. The moisturizing shampoo and the cream rinse do an awesome job for my hair. My hair type and my daughter's are different and she gets a fabulous result also.
A little goes a long way
Laura from Tulsa, OK
The shampoo is thick and creamy, and it only takes a small amount for my thick, curly hair. I wish they had a better option for a conditioner that would match the quality of this shampoo.
I have been using this product for approx 3-4 yrs now!
Surfer Girl from Colorado Springs, CO
I use this product everyday at times and other times about every two days. I use the creme rinse as well.
I also use the sea salt spray to add volume and the finishing spray. All their products are a little pricey but just use a small amount . You'll be surprised at how long it all lasts.

I have long baby fine wavy color treated hair that became wiry/frizzy after it began growing salt/pepper. It's naturally oily, and I believe I have sebhorriec dermatitis (flakey & itchy particularly around the ears). Most shampoos that treat the dermatitis cause eve more oil production. I have tried everything without relief until this. Not only did it stop the itch and over production or skin cells/dermatitis but it controls the frizz without leaving it oily. Because of the cost & add some of PM's regular awapuhi shampoo to it on alternate days. I condition afterward with Not Your Mother's Way to Grow & then use a Wet Brush to brush through it easily, and then just let it air dry. At 55 I have the hair I dreamed of in my 20's. I use Age Beautiful 7N hair dye, and it holds too.
absolutely love this product

I love the whole Awapuhi Wild ginger line. My favorite product line from paul mitchell. All the AWG products smell amazing and help with rebuilding my damaged hair from lightener. The keratriplex blend has the perfect amount of keratin to aide my hair strength. LOVE this product!!

My hair fell out a lot after 2 uses and it was very dry and I had a lot of dandruff afterwards for 6 months.

Great smell, gentle on treated hair. Leaves your hair soft and with great body
Not for me
Daria from Texas
For some reason this made my hair fall out more than usual and my scalp was itchy for about 4 months afterwards. My hair felt like straw. And was still frizzy too. Maybe I had a reaction to it , I'm not too sure. Either way i didn't enjoy this shampoo and conditioner.
Good for Shampoo

Nickel size amount is good for short to medium length hair. Great smell! Brings back memories from mid 80's when Awapuhi was popular with PM. I have normal/thin hair perfect for me. Didn't weigh my hair down as I only used the shampoo.
Raz from PA
I have been using this shampoo every other day, just to mix things up. I love it. The smell is great, and I like how it leaves my thin straight hair.
Love this shampoo

Great for color treated hair!

My hair stylist recommended this for my dry frizzy color treated hair. It has worked wonders. Rinses clean and leaves hair clean and soft. Love it!
So far I like it
chefsally from wisconsin
I have extreme shedding and I read not to use products with laurel sulfate. I also have color treated hair. So I found this to not have the sulfate. So far it is not leaving my hair like straw which often happens. I think we have to many minerals in our water from what stylists have said. As far as the shedding, I cant tell yet. I bought the conditioner/rinse with keratin today so hopefully it will be decent.

My hair has turned frizzy recently so I look for products that tame the frizz without weighing down my hair. I've only used this a couple of days so far. I'm not crazy about the scent but it's not terrible.
WARNING! NEW FORMULA KERATIN PRODUCT CAUSES INJURIES
lg from CHICAGO, IL
THE NEW "PAUL MITCHELL" AWAPUHI WILD GINGER REPAIR KERATIN CREAM RINSE AND THE NEWLY-FORMULATED PRODUCTS ARE INJURIOUS TO YOUR SCALP, HAIR -- (WHICH IS COMPLETELY DRIED OUT AFTER USE) AND ALSO INJURS ANY SKIN IT TOUCHES, I.E., NECK AREA, SHOULDERS, FACE, ETC. IT IS AN INTENSE SCALP PAIN THAT OCCURS. IF YOU COLOR YOUR HAIR, THESE PRODUCTS WILL PULL THE COLOR OUT. SINCE I HAD USED THE PREVIOUS FORMULATED PRODUCT, I DID NOT IMMEDIATELY RELATE THESE SERIOUS CONDITIONS TO THIS CURRENT SET OF PRODUCTS. BEWARE ALSO THAT EYES CAN BE INJURED. WHILE SHOWERING, IT IS VERY EASY TO GET PRODUCT INTO EYES -- BURNING AND THROBBING OF EYES DOES OCCUR ABOUT AN HOUR AFTER USE. THIS IS ADVERTISED BY PAUL MITCHELL TO BE A PRODUCT THAT CAN BE USED DAILY! *** DO NOT USE *** PLS. RETURN / CALL FOR REFUND AND TOSS OUT PRODUCT. I HAVE BEEN ADVISED THAT THERE IS TOO MUCH KERTAIN IN THE PRODUCT WHICH CAUSES MANY OF THE CONDITIONS I MENTION.
