Most Helpful Positive Review Don't Overlook This Due to Low Price!
This is a wonderful foundation! I have tried a wide range of foundations in my day, from drugstore to high end, and this one is in my top 3! And since it's so affordable, it is my main go-to; I save the higher end ones for special occasions or really bad skin days. (For the record, I also enjoy Make Up For Ever Ultra HD, Nars Sheer Glow, and L'Oréal Infallible Pro-Matte.)
I am 30 with minimal fine lines/wrinkles and normal to dry acne-prone skin most of the time, but get oily outdoors and during the hotter months, which is most of the year in notoriously humid Florida. This stuff manages to hold up even when standing in sticky hours-long lines at Disney World!
I prefer to apply it with a very damp Beauty Blender over a brush for the most streak-free application. It has a natural matte finish, and doesn't cake up into crevices or on dry patches. It isn't too thick or too runny, and layers up nicely. I have a lot of freckles and discoloration on my face and one thin coat evens everything out, but if I have extra redness or a bad skin day, it builds nicely for higher coverage. It goes on quite wet at first, but that gives you time to work with it before it dries down to a natural matte finish.
It sets nicely without needing setting powder, but of course powder seals everything in for maximum longevity. On me, I wear this for a good 6 hours before I notice any fading or breaking up WITHOUT powder, depending on the weather.
The only con is the shade selection. I am pretty fair with a neutral undertone (MAC equivalent of NC15-NC20 without a tan) and I use the shade Porcelain in this foundation, which is the lightest shade available. E.L.F.'s Porcelain is definitely not suitable for very pale skin, and I myself can just barely use it if I blend well, as it leans more pink than I'd like.
Also, it has a slightly minty scent due to the teatree oil. It doesn't linger once the foundation dries, but the smell is definitely noticeable upon applicatio

I like this, but it is darker for me than expected and I have the lightest shade. I wear Naked 0.5 and True Match C1. Be aware if you have similar skin tone.

Seriously? This shade range is worse than Tarte
My skin is scaly
Kristen from California
After using a spot-treatment on my acne, I applied this product to my skin. Everywhere surrounding where I put my spot-treatment got super dry and scaly. This is partly my fault for mixing two medications, but the reaction was so quick and long-lasting. My skin did look good when I had the product on though.

This definitely has some great coverage. Not that large of a shade range though. Also has a interesting scent to it! But it does the job and leaves a flawless finishing look.

Not for me

The description of this foundation sounded good. However, I tossed it after one use. The formula felt ultra thin, and appeared dark orange. I guessed it would be a cheaper alternative to the Clinique acne solutions foundation, but overall it felt and looked like a tinted moisturizer on me. However, this product has been reviewed well, so I wouldn't discourage anyone from trying it themselves.

I went from MAC to ELF foundation it was the best choice I've ever made.

The only problem with this product is the shade ranges are horrible.

I have always had sensitive and acne prone skin. I've tried the expensive name brand make ups, BB & CC creams, etc. Not only did they not provide enough coverage but they didn't help with my acne either. I'm very impressed with this makeup it gives excellent coverage and is lightweight. I only use a little bit but I do have to combine it with a lighter B.B. cream since the lightest shade is still a little too dark for my skin tone. I also bought the acne fighting primer and my breakouts have diminished after only 1 week. Great foundation but we need more shades!!

Finally an affordable foundation that has the qualities that I need... And is available in my shade. Too many companies forget about darker tones, and completely mess up the undertones. My new every-day foundation. I used Clinique acne solutions for 8 years, for $28-$32 every six weeks. This has great coverage, lasts, and saves the bank.

GREAT product!!!!! This foundation has amazing coverage and covers up my acne and scarring. You can't beat the price either! Never spending ridiclous prices on foundation. I've found my forever foundation. Elf you've done it!!
My favorite foundation

works with oily skin
this is the only foundation that I feel comfortable putting on my acne-prone skin and I pair it with the blemish control primer. It never breaks me out even when I wear it for a long time
I wish they had the rest of the shades on ulta's website!!!!!
Goodbye to spending $$ on foundation!

I have probably 6 or 7 foundations that I've been rotating, trying to like, trying to master, trying to get to cover my cystic acne, redness, and scars. Since my acne is hormonal, I never really cared for a "acne fighting" foundation because at the end of the day, topical treatments were useless. Out of all the "full coverage", matte, dewy, expensive foundations I have, this one has (luckily for me) matched the best, covered the best, and effected my already angry skin the least negative way. Any products with salicylic have always kept me away from this product as it's too irritating, but perhaps the witch hazel and aloe balances it out because my skin does not burn or tingle, and I see no developing acne after a day of wearing this like every foundation before. I can't believe I've found this foundation that is cruelty free, doesn't hurt my skin, is actual FULL coverage, and is only 6 dollars. I can't believe I've spent so much on other expensive luxury foundations that have worsened my skin.

I was really surprised by this foundation! The coverage is great (it builds to a full). And fortunately the color matched me, even with the VERY limited color selection. It feels lightweight, and does not look caky on my skin. It worked great with a brush or a makeup sponge in my case.
I would give it a 4.5 stars mainly because I have oily skin, and my oils do show through about an hour into wearing it. But I gave it 5 stars because the foundation does not claim to be oil controlling. However, it does not leave my skin looking super greasy after hours of wearing it for a foundation that has no oil control claims. And for the price, it does so much better than a lot of my expensive foundations! I would highly recommend trying it out IF you can manage to find your shade.

I'm white I'm whiter than porcelain where's that share
Lighter Shades PLEASE
Dani from FL
This is my go-to base foundation anytime I'm breaking out, which is almost constantly! It makes redness and spots literally disappear, but I usually put a different foundation over it because alone it's a bit too dark for me. PSA: all the lighter shades are on the e.l.f. Website!!! Idk why ULTA doesn't have them :(((
I do have to say that although this stuff hasn't made me break out, I've also never gotten rid of any pimples from using it. But at least it covers them!

I wouldn't buy it again
Kiana from San Jose, CA
I never use to have a ton of breakouts until I started using this foundation. It's one of those foundations that if you touch your face, your fingers will have so much make up on and will need to wash them off.
Wish they had lighter colors
Kate from Exton, PA
I ordered a color that was too dark. All they had available were darker shades. I would love to try this in a lighter shade and see how it works on my acne prone skin.
Mommy_of_dragons from Dallas, tx
Okay, i buy this foundation constantly. But why doesn't ultra have the full shade range? I don't get it. Come on Ulta - get it together.
This is a very clean feeling foundation
Deborah from Central N.Y. state
Smooth application, feels clean and light but gives great coverage, while you feel like y ou are treating your skin. After applying, give it a minute befor building, it has to set a bit. I mix sand shade with revlon beige for a perfect long lasting look all day.
Love but need more shades!!
Rach from NY, NY
I love this foundation so much, it is my every day go to! BUT WHERE ARE THE REST OF THE SHADESS???? I have a very yellow skin tone and this foundation, like many other drug store products have a more pink undertone. I wish elf would expand to make this more inclusive because its a great foundation and such an awesome price. Love to blend with my fingers or a sponge for a flawless finish.
Vero from MA
I like the foundation and coverage is nice but you guys need to have lighter colors. I'm not white, I'm Hispanic but my skin color is a pretty light complexion. I tried the lightest color shown and it's still too dark for my face. I'm happy with the product because it does the job and I don't break out but it also leaves me extremely oily by the end of the day; which is why I'm iffy about it. I wash my face before hand, use either spray or cream primers and my face still ends up oily.
best foundation but my shade is never in stock!
