Most Helpful Positive Review So good I bought three! I absolutely love this curling iron. I've been using the 1" for about four months, just added the 1 1/4", and gave one to my niece (who also loves it). The irons heat in an instant, have a very long cord that swivels, and grip the hair very well. I have shoulder length hair that's basically straight. The 1 1/4" iron makes large, loose "curls" that blend together and look like a lot of body, not like defined curls. They 1" makes more defined curls that start as large ringlets that I finger-comb into looser curls. I started with the 1" because I was concerned the larger iron would be too big for my hair length and the curls would fall out since my hair usually doesn't hold a curl. But with Frederic Fekkai styling products and this curling iron, my hair holds the curl all day. This iron is very efficient (cutting down on styling time) because the grip is so good and it gets hot enough that every use is effective. So no do-overs. A word of CAUTION: this iron has the potential to get DANGEROUSLY HOT. The heat settings go up to 10. I keep it at 3 1/2 (medium), which is very hot. When I gave this iron to my 16-year-old niece, I advised her to start at 3 and increase the heat if necessary.
Most Helpful Critical Review I expected more I originally purchased this product in 2014. I had decided to upgrade and pay a bit more money. I wanted something better than the Conair I had for 2 years that had finally stopped working. I looked around and the staff at Ulta recommended Hot Tools. I loved how it curled, how quicky it heated up, and how easy it was to use. I was happy I spent the extra money. Then after three months of use it just suddenly stopped working. It would heat up all. I had thrown out the receipt. I went back to Ulta they were able to give me partial credit for a new one. I thought ok, it's just a fluke. So I bought the same 2" barrel hot tool curling iron. Again, I loved it! This time I kept the box (just in case). Now, here we are almost one year later but, not quite one year yet, the clamp stops working. Not even 1 year!! Of course, I had moved from MI to SC then from an Apt into a house... I no longer have the box or the receipt. So I'm out of luck. I had my conair curling iron for 2 years and paid half the price. This one I had to replace twice within a year and a half. I'm disappointed in the product. I've attached a picture of the problem. (The ring should stay in the center so it rolls. I would fix it occasionally but, occasionally turned into every other curl.)

It would be great if this iron worked more than once. The second time I tried to use it, it would not even turn on. Then to make matters worse, looking at the return policy if I don't go into the store or curbside, I have to pay the return shipping fee. Won't do this again. Lesson learned
My 2nd time purchasing this curling iron! 5

This is a great curl producing iron. The best part is there is never any product build up on the wand.

I purchased this curling iron several days ago. Works perfectly! Heats up fast, has variable temperature control, and a comfortable grip. Long swivel cord. Extra springs provided.

I have naturally curly hair and when I use this after blow drying, the curls don't hold! It usually uncurls within 2 hours. Very disappointing!

I already have this curling iron and have used it for years. This purchase is a backup if my old one quits. It gives my hair a nice smooth look with just the right amount of curl. I love this curling iron!

This curling iron did not run thru my hair smoothly, it got stuck and wouldn't slide. The heat was not even. My curls fell out too! 1/2" barrel and curls won't stay? Hmm... Returned this after one use and will never buy a hot tools curling iron again!
Selling used products again! 1

I have purchased this for many years because it was recommended by my hairstylist. However I have had to buy this product 2 years in a row because the plastic tip literally melts off. This should not happen. Fortunately I have been present when this has happened so it does not burn my bathroom counter.
Massively disappointing 1

My hair is thick and coarse and holds a hot style for DAYS. Unfortunately the curls from this iron fell literally within 15 minutes. Don't waste your money.

I've purchased Hot Tools Curling irons several times & have never been disappointed. They perform well & are very durable. Thoughtful design: Longer cord is a nice feature. Love how quickly it heats up & the adjustable temperature control.
I love the look of my hair with this iron 5

My old iron was at least 12 years old and stopped working consistently. I decided that I should treat myself to a new iron. There are too many choices and so many review on each that I decided to limit my purchase to under $50 with more than 1,000 reviews. I have used it twice, not long enough to swear by it, but my hair hasn't looked this good in 12 years. I got soft curls that I finger combed and am so happy with the look and feel. I'll update after a month or so.

I 100% recommend this curling Iron. It has lasted my mom many years from when she started cosmetology school which was almost 15 years ago. Gives amazing loose curls of getting a thicker Inch.

I used this iron FOUR times and it stopped heating up at all. Switched outlets and temp setting and still nothing. Not happy at all.

This curling iron gives me just the size curls I was looking for. My 1" curling iron was too large and this one did the trick!

I absolutely love this curling iron. It's easy to use and curls my hair so perfectly. And I love that it's so much longer then my old one.

This thing sucks. My hair notoriously holds a curl VERY well, but my curls fell from this iron within minutes. Super disappointed.

I get the best curls from this iron. The 1 1/2 barrel gives me a perfect wide spiral that falls into a gorgeous wave almost. This is my second curling iron purchase. I had my last one for ten years, still curled my hair perfectly, however, the cord wasn't working properly most likely my own doing how I wrap the cord.
Not happy 1
Dev from Philly
I'm not commenting on the product itself because I was unable to try it out. I purchased this in the store and it was used. The worst part is that the entire bottom of the barrel was covered in hairspray specks and the top of the barrel was chipping. Don't ask me how it was this messed up when the packaging was unopened but it is very frustrating. It makes me apprehensive to shop at Ulta because of the previous claims that they put used merchandise back on the floor.

Not the normal Hot Tools quality 2

I am a Hot Tools curling iron loyalist & have been for years... but this one is disappointing. The clamp gets stuck & doesn't seamlessly open/close, which I could get over if the rest of the iron was as great as expected, but sadly no. I also find that the heat setting is weird... I never heat above about 300 & have never had issues (in fact, my other hot tools curling irons are the ONLY ones that can get my hair to hold a curl at all) but with this one my hair almost immediately loses the curl. I've tried increasing the heat but same issue, plus I don't want to fully fry my hair. I had high hopes for big, loose curls but I'm definitely returning this item.
