Most Helpful Positive Review AMAZING LASHES
I couldn't wait to use this product and I was not disappointed! My lashes were soft and moveable even with the mascara on!! It looked like they grew a mile after using the mascara as well! It doesn't have that chemical smell that often makes your eyes water when applying other mascara. The applicator is great for applying evenly... I'm OBSESSED! I only had to apply ONE coat! This needs to be in everyone's make up bag!!!
Most Helpful Critical Review 1st impression~ Not liking It
I thought I would try this brand for a switch up from a competitor formula.
First out of the tube, it has a peculiar odor. I do not know how long this has been in the store display.
I do not "pump" my brush in wand mascaras and did not care for the clumping. There was not much on the brush. It has a very light coverage. If you use a 'primer' (which I do) I would recommend it. My tinted primer actually has better coverage. Sometimes I will just use that.
The brush is a very good design, which I like. Some manufacturers have bulky or awkward wands that are difficult to handle.
It is definitely not waterproof & if caught in the rain you would be a mess! Comes off very easy with just water, no cleanser or soap...... that has both pros/cons. My eyes do tear at times & I also have 'dry eye' and now very particular about my mascara since eye surgery for a retina detachment because I had a sceral band sewn onto my eyeball to keep it intact. Absolute no rubbing the eye!! So I need a easy on/off product that has some sort of staying power.
I may finish this tube or not but I think I will stick with the competitors.
I also find some of the lip shimmers & lip sticks grainy.those are 'hit & miss'.
Reviewed by 153 customers Love Applicator Wand; Not Too Thick
srwatkin from Seattle, WA
I came here to leave a review about how much I loved the lightness of the applicator wand, as well as the chunk-free consistency of the product itself. To my surprise several people down graded the mascara because they felt the wand was cheap and did not apply enough liquid to the lash. I can't say I feel the same. This is the first mascara I felt did an even application without applying to thick a coat, and the want was so light and well spaced it further reduced the risk of clumping up. I have never had such a smooth experience with mascara, the look is also more natural. I have tried way more expensive brands that didn't do half as good a job. Will buy again!
Wanted to love
kenziekayy from Tempe AZ
I wanted so badly to love this mascara, but the formula was super thick and clumpy. Maybe I got an old one off the shelf. I HATE clumping and as I started to use the mascara on my lashes little balls of formula were all over the lashes. I had to use a clean brush and Q-tip to remove the little clumps. The formula was dry, it felt like it as an old mascara tube that you use for a long time and starts to dry up. The color was beautiful and very natural, I have used Burt's Bees products for years. Maybe I will try the Multi - Benefit and have better luck.
Not Horrible for Sensitive Eyes
Bella from New York
My problem with Burt's Bees products is the high price tag but this one is okay because the quality matches it. It's long-lasting and doesn't smudge but is easy to remove. It does clump occasionally but applies easily with the flexible applicator. And it doesn't irritate or dry out my sensitive eyes. It's not my go-to anymore but it does work and will be my second in the running. (My go-to is Eyelash Icing by Beauty Bakerie).
Ash from Nevada
Great but not sweat-proof. If I get a little sweaty from work or a hot day it transfers to my under eye
Crybaby from Inland empire
It's very wet. The brush has big spaces in between the bristles so if your lashes touch the barrel of the wand, A LOT GETS ON (its ugly) No need to build. But Comes off really easily with water. Do not cry with this product on! It gets inside your eyes and really really burns
Not for me
JarnsaxaHela from Québec, Canada
I have short / medium lashes and not curved. This mascara is so light and thin that does not keep them curved even with an eyelash curler. If you have doe eyes you will love it! Easy to remove with water, it's very pleasant. Does not flake and is doing well. As a first mascara for a young teenager, it's a great idea too! I'm going to buy the `` All Aflutter Multi-Benefit Mascara '' which seems perfect for my eyelashes!
Ellen J from Covington, LA
I love this mascara. It lengthens and adds volume.
Love this mascara
Mascara from Lacey
Finally a mascara that doesn't smell terrible. I love this mascara & it stays on for 12+ hrs plus comes off easily when I want it to!
Very dry mascara.
Russ from Las Vegas
It was very dry. I have to use 3 coats and then use another brand on top. I did not like the effect on my lashes
anna from New Jersey, USA
i love how this mascara is 100% natural. it gives length, volume and curl. the only thing is that i feel like sometimes it takes more than one coat to see the full effects, but overall, it's pretty nice!
Sarah_y from California
This is really a great mascara, though it does take a little time to dry fully. However, the info in the description is false! Burt's Bees claims to be cruelty free, when they are not! Ulta needs to change the description. This product, and the whole brand, is not cruelty free :(
Light, just wish it was waterproof
Curly21 from Kansas
I love Burt's chapstick so I thought I'd give their other products a try.
This is a very light mascara, good if you're not planning on doing a whole lot. Just wish it was waterproof and a little darker. Though I've finally found a mascara that doesn't make my eyes burn!!
Flakes and smears
Denise C from Louisiana
I was hoping to switch to a cleaner mascara. This won't be it. This mascara flakes while being applied, and after it's on, even dry. That's a huge negative for me.
Amazing!!! (if you love the natural look)
Britt C from undisclosed
(I chose the brown color) I love this mascara. It doesn't irritate my eyes like other conventional mascaras, it defines my lashes very well, it is long-wearing (up to 12 hours in my experience), and it just makes my eyes look bigger, brighter, and better in general. It makes your lashes feel very velvety, so breakage from a stiff formula won't happen (this has happened to me before and it is very unfortunate). It doesn't smear either and is very user-friendly. But there are a few things to note
1) This is NOT for the full glam girls. If you want volume and extreme length, this mascara will likely not get you there. I have naturally long lashes, they're just very thin, so it defines them well and lengthens just enough to make them visible and to accent my eyes, but if you have very short lashes and want long ones, this may or may not get you there (the black color might, but the brown color isn't stark enough in my opinion). The texture is quite thin, so it goes on like butter but it doesn't build up to that "doll eyes" look that I know some women enjoy. It will build up, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't build up like others will. I would go for another Burt's Bees mascara if you want something that is not "your lashes but better" and a little more extreme, but you still want to stay in the natural makeup arena.
2) It does not hold up to extremely watery eyes. It's nourishing, so it feels wonderful on the lashes but it is also vulnerable to run. I don't have watery eyes, but I do rub my eyes pretty often and it doesn't transfer across my eyes which is good, but I can see flakes on my hands and I do notice that by the end of the day, there is less product on my eyes. I also did a small "experiment" where I applied it and then made myself cry with onions, and the mascara did well up slightly, but not enough to run unless you are full-on crying or have very active eyes, so allergy people should be aware of this. Nonetheless, it still wears very well. And it is easy to take off at the end of the day so that you aren't destroying your lashes every night :)
3) DON'T TRY THE SALINE DROP TRICK. I have seen "mascara hacks" where the mascara dries up and you can drop some saline into the bottle and poof! new mascara... that is this mascara's downfall. For one, I don't think this mascara CAN dry up since there are so many wonderful oils in the formula (I have had mine opened and in use for 6 months *I know that you're supposed to use it for 3 months and replace it buuuut I haven't had any irritation so imma keep it*), but secondly, if you add water to this mascara, it is ruined. It will turn into soup and won't do anything except make a mess of your eyes. My friend did this with hers when she wanted to get to the last bit of it and she was so sad.
Overall, this is a wonderful mascara, and I wil definitely keep this near and dear. There are a few caveats of course, but the only way to know of its effectiveness is to TRY IT!!! So try it
Worst mascara I've ever used
Meganmmmmm from NE
so clumpy and dry. made my lashes look like spider legs.
Ive never been so angry applying mascara before
Stephchristine from Raleigh, NC
Seriously this is some of the WORST mascara I've ever tried. It's so mf gloopy and sticky there's no reason anyone should ever attempt an application. My eyelashes look like sticky bulbous straight STICKS. they won't curve upward even if I curl them before using this. The applicator is just trash because it apples too much on your eyelashes and it just crumbles off onto your fresh foundation on second application if you attempt to fix the horrid mess it created. im seriously so disappointed this is even in my property, it really doesn't deserve a second chance. Also just found out that burts bees isn't cruelty free either so yikes
MusicGirl01 from Cincinnati, OH
I decided to try Burt's Bees mascara because I knew I could recycle the mascara tube through Terracycle. I've been using it for a full two weeks. The mascara itself is fine. I like the formula, it stays on, it washes off well. But the brush is awful. Part of it is a learning curve because I'm used to a bristle brush. I've finally gotten to where I can get my top lashes to look pretty good with very few clumps, but I cannot get this brush to work on my lower lashes AT ALL. Another reviewer said they started using the brush from another mascara. I did that today and it made a HUGE difference. I'll use up this tube, but will not buy another unless they change the brush. Especially since I've just learned that Terracycle has programs that will also accept other brands of mascara tubes too.

If you like a more natural look, this is the product for you! Brush is kinda weird, but adds definition and curl to my lashes:)
Hmmmm......better luck next time?.
Jane from Denver, CO
Looked forward to this Burt's Bees mascara, since I saw it recommended in a magazine~disappointed to find it dry and nearly unusable. Impossible to find in stores-have to order online.
INCREDIBLE FOR AN ALL NATURAL MASCARA
Savannahkay from Minneapolis, Minnesota
I absolutely love that this product is all natural and it doesn't smudge or flake on me. I have tried many brands of natural mascara and this one is by far the best quality and price too!
The Best Mascara EVER!
HoneyBeesRule from Upper Marlboro, MD
Burt's Bees Mascara doesn't smudge and you can layer and layer without getting "whiskers" on your eyelids. It dries quickly yet is still buildable and leaves your lashes soft to touch. I can't say enough good things about this mascara. It is the best mascara I've ever tried. I have not used any other mascara since. This is the only mascara I'm using. I can put this mascara on in the morning and forget about it all day. No touch ups necessary. Best of all, it is natural and has ingredients that are actually good for you. PLEASE KEEP MAKING THIS PRODUCT. As long as you make this product available, you'll have a lifetime customer.
Love this Mascara!
Sosydne from Idaho Falls, Idaho
I love this mascara. I accidentally pulled a couple eyelashes out of my eye when using an eyelash curling tool. The eyelashes were not coming back very fast. I bought Burt's Bees mascara and I was amazed at my lash growth.
I like that the mascara when applied is soft and natural and the lashes feel soft throughout the day. It also smells like honey and of course I love that. My only complaint is that it irritates my eyes when I add eye drops to my eyes and when I'm drying my hair with heat.
I'm not sure why. But I do love this product and will continue to use it.
Echo79 from Fort Myers, Florida
I purchased this in the brown. The applicator brush isnt the best I've used. The formula was good but took a very long time to dry so I kept getting these smears around my eye that I would have to clean up and reapply my makeup for. It can get a little clumpy if you aren't careful, so you should really only do one coat of it. The first time I tried to wear it, I used some setting spray. DON'T! This product comes off very very easily with water and it ended up dripping into my eyes stinging them and ruining all of my makeup. If you have very watery eyes you may not want to use this product, but it did not bother my sensitive eyes after application.
My #1 go-to mascara
Brgs2012 from Muskego, WI
Burt's Bees really hit the mark with this mascara. The color is just bold enough but not too overpowering. The applicator is extremely effective in adding volume even though my lashes are super light and sparse. Removal at the end of day is effortless. I sometimes opt to wear just this mascara to brighten my look without heavy makeup!
Worst mascara I have ever purchased!
Long Lashes from Dayton, OH
So disappointed in this product. Clumps and flakes from the first use!
