Comments about Real Techniques Starter Brush Kit:

I was in the market for a new crease brush. I went to my local Ulta store and bowsed around and found a very nice one for about 20 dollars. When getting in line for checkout I spotted this set and I noticed that I could get 5 good quality brushes for less than one single good quality brush. This brush has rekindled my love for Real Teqhniques brushes. They are soft and they hold powders amazingly. The brushes are in my own opinion valued at the quality of my sigma brushes that cost me an arm and a leg.

These eye brushes are wonderful! Every single one of them. I was somewhat skeptical with the crease brush because of its size, but it blends beautifully. And the eyeliner brush is the best eyeliner brush I've ever used, I was extremely impressed with it! Definitely recommend

Comments about Real Techniques Starter Brush Kit:

I have just started using eyeshadow and this set is really easy for me to use, its very obvious what each brush is supposed to do, and the bristles are very soft. I don't have to work hard to get the product onto my eyes, and the fluffy brush blends really well. They also maintain their shape and softness even after I have cleaned them, which I have done 3 times since I bought them.
I haven't tried using cream shadows with them, but they do a really nice job with pressed powder. A great price for a full set, worth a buy if you're just starting out with brushes and don't want to risk ruining a more expensive set due to inexperience.

                      A:

                      Hi Taylor,

As someone with hooded eyes, I can absolutely relate to your question 100%! What i have found is that looking at tutorials online for hooded eye makeup is what has helped get me more of the look that I want. Our makeup brush artist experts, Sam & Nic Chapman, have a lot of tutorials on YouTube, and several specifically on hooded eye makeup. You can find them under their channel name Pixiwoo.

That being said, I do love this kit for eye brushes and have found that with the right technique, these brushes work really well.

                      Thanks!

                      Hi Star,

Thanks for your question. You can find instructions on what each brush does on the packaging as well as on the product description page on Ulta.com (http://www.ulta.com/starter-brush-kit?productId=xlsImpprod3220081).

There also is a tutorial on YouTube that will help you understand and see how each brush works. Our makeup artist experts (who have a channel called Pixiwoo) have created a tutorial video on this particular set.

                      Hope that helps!

Thanks for your question! The length of the tallest brush, from base to tip of the bristle, is about 5.75".

                    • Brand Expert

                      A:

                      Hi Alyssa,

This is the perfect set for eye shadow, actually, since all the brushes are specifically designed for eye makeup application.

And I'll let you in on a little secret you might not know: all of our Real Techniques brushes are color coded based on their use: any purple handled brushes are for eyes, gold/orange handled brushes are base (foundations, concealers, etc) and pink handled brushes are for finishing techniques: blush, contour, lip.

Because all of the brushes in the Starter Set are purple, they are all focused on your eyes!

                      Here's what each brush does:

deluxe crease brush: soft, oversized design for effortless contouring
base shadow brush: apply a smooth, flawless foundation of color
accent brush: designed for precision detailing, spotlighting, highlighting, and smudging
fine liner brush: the ultimate tool for precision application of liquid or cream eyeliner
brow brush: distinctive shape easily defines eyebrows

Plus, it comes with a panoramic case, which is great for storing, drying, etc.

                      Hope that helps!

                      Hi Nikki,

I hadn't yet seen the Anastasia Cream Contour Kit, so I looked it up and now I'm heading to Ulta to buy it. It looks amazing! :)

Great question, by the way. Rather than the Starter Set, I actually would recommend our Real Techniques Sculpting Set (found here: http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod12191293) to use with this cream contour kit. The Sculpting Set is made for all things highlighting and contouring and the brushes are amazing!

The Starter Set is fabulous, but those brushes are all mainly for eyes and brows.

                      Thanks so much!

Are this bristles firm or soft? I notice with a softer brush it's more difficult to apply a base coat of eyeshadow.

                      A:

Of the 5 brushes in this set, the firmest one is the Brow Brush, meant to be used to distinctly shape your brows. It's still soft to the touch, but is cut in such a way that you can shape with precision.

Of the three shadow brushes in the set, they all are soft to the touch, but all have varying degrees of length, packing and wave to determine how they perform. The softest of the three shadow brushes is the Base Shadow brush, which is used primarily for base coat application. It's not overly soft so that the product falls off of it (which may be what you are experiencing). It's cut in such a way that it can cover a broad surface (like your entire lid and above the socket), but still "holds onto" the product for good application.

The Deluxe Crease Brush is a soft brush, but is tapered and packed more densely for a more precise application of shadow. This is for the more detailed application of accent colors, creating smoky looks or highlights.

The Accent Brush is cut very small for even more precision with shadow, great for lining and smudging your lash lines.

                      A:

The brow brush is the one furthest to the right in the image & is angled.

With regard to fitting more brushes in, the case itself has two additional stretchy "holders" on the other side of the flap, so based on the size of brushes you are wishing to fit in, there is room for two smaller ones.

                      We hope this helps! :-)
