I have very thick hair and these are the only barrettes that work for me. They may not be sparkly or eyecatching but they are effective in keeping my hair pulled back and in place all day.

I use the barrets to hold my thick hair off my face above my ears. The barrets hold tight which is good, but they aren't large enough to hold as much hair as I'd like to gather.

I really like this clip. It is the perfect size for pulling back the upper half of the hair in a clip behind the head. I have a ton of hair but the strands themselves are very fine. Most clips either slide out of my hair or hold it without keeping a style like if I want to puff it up on top a bit. This clip is different. It's the only one I've tried besides a small "jaw" style that will let me style my hair, put it in, and it won't disturb the style. It will stay put all day, too. The only downside I can think of is that sometimes a strand or two will get caught in the "joint" and it pulls my hair. That hurts. Otherwise it's a very good clip and a good value. I alternate between red hair and blond hair. The tortoise color looks good with both.

As a young mom, I got these barrettes to pull my hair half back - each barrette holding back a side - as a quick, easy alternative to my usual daily ponytail. They are exactly what I was looking for and are flattering and really hold in place. Love these barrettes! And they're inexpensive too!
