Comments about Real Techniques Core Collection:

I wasn't really that big a fan of this brush set. The foundation brush is a good size, but the bristles are so stiff the actually kind of hurt my face. So I tend to use my other brushes more and pretty much only keep these brushes in my travel kit. But I guess it's not that bad for the price.

Comments about Real Techniques Core Collection:

I love this collection. It's so versatile, affordable, and easy to use. This set is amazing for beginners who need basic brushes, teenagers, and budget buyers. The quality can be considered exceptional for it's price. You can get a single brush of a similar or higher quality for 5-10 more bucks. Are these brushes perfect? Not exactly. Does everyone need them? Not really. My biggest issue with Real Techniques, is that the quality of their brushes are not always consistent. You may need to exchange any RT product because the product you purchased may shed more than it should, or are much too scratchy than they should be. These brushes are soft. Not the softest brushes but they're really soft. They also perform very well and are GREAT multi-taskers. The buffing brush is a cult favorite for foundation application. It's great for ALL foundation types, I assure you. However, I personally find that the buffing brush is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT for applying my blush and bronzer. It's shape is perfect for the contours of my face. I like to swirl the brush into my pressed powder and tap/press the product in an down/up motion along my face. The product is placed/distributed perfectly and if I find that I went heavy handed, I can buff and blend the product out. The contour brush in this set is my absolute favorite brush. It's shape and size makes it absolutely versatile. You can use it to blend out concealer, set the undereye, CONTOUR your hollows, apply blush, and my favorite use, applying highlight to the high points of my cheek. It applies the perfect amount of product, distributing it evenly on my cheeks and provides the perfect blending capability. If you're a highlight freak like I am, this brush will capture your heart. The detailer brush in this set is great for spot concealing, carving out eyebrows, applying lip product, and detailing the eyes. This brush is rather underused in my set but it's truly a great brush for the little details that really matter. I also find that the detailer brush is good at applying cream eyeshadow on smaller eyes. The pointed foundation brush in this set isn't great. I could toss it and not forget it honestly. However, you can still use it but I find that there are many other brushes that do it's job much better. Don't bother using it for foundation, it's just too tiny. You can use it to apply and blend concealer anywhere, highlight the brow bone, and contouring. If you use a cream contour product, you can use this brush to carve and blend out the hollows of your cheek and shape the sides of your nose. The foundation brush isn't great however and can be easily overlooked. Do you NEED this set? I don't think so but get it if it suits your needs because it's definitely worth it.

Yes, the pointed foundation brush can be used to apply and blend cream consistency foundations such as BB creams, too, in addition to more fluid liquid foundations. The buffing brush is designed for powder formulas rather than liquid/cream formulas.

                            From Real Techniques:

"The great thing about the Real Techniques line is that almost all of the brushes can be used in multiple ways. If you find that the Core Collection's Detailer Brush works for shaping your eyebrows, then definitely keep using it that way! However, if you’re looking for something that will give you a bit more precision and is a bit more rigid, you might want to try the Angled Brow Brush in our Starter Set. That set comes with 5 brushes, all centered around your eyes/brows as well as the carrying case and costs the same as the Core Collection. This brush may give you exactly what you're looking for. Plus, we always say that you can never have too many Real Techniques brushes!"

Is the buffing brush in this "Core collection" set, the same with the Expert face brush that can be bought individually? I have asked 2 Ulta store representative and they both confirmed that it is the same brush. Can someone please re-confirm. I have been reading reviews and now I have my doubts. Thanks!

Great question! The Buffing Brush that comes in the Core Collection is different from the Expert Face Brush that is sold individually. The bristles in the Buffing Brush are longer and are not as densely packed as the Expert Face.

Both use a buffing method to apply foundation and/or powder to the skin and both help to achieve that flawless, gorgeous finish. The Expert Face Brush applies product in a bit more of a concentrated manner because of how dense the bristles are. Overall, though, it comes down to personal preference when deciding which brush to use. They are both fan favorites within the Real Techniques line!
