I have been using Lancome's foundation primer (La Base) since it first came out. Loved the way it works but have occasionally tried other primers because 1) Lancome is not always readily available...sold only in department stores which weren't always handy when I needed more 2) it was hard to get about the last 1/5 of the product out of the bottle...the pump stopped working and Q-tips aren't long enough to reach the bottom 3) seemed over-priced.

I like the Maybelline just as well, if not better, and it's about a quarter of the price. I also prefer the tube because it's easier to dispense all of the product. (Recently learned a trick from a friend about using strong scissors...such as kitchen shears...to cut near-empty tubes of cosmetic products in half. There's usually way more product left than I think there will be. I use a cosmetic spatula to access it and I can use the end I cut off to slip over the opening as a cover.)

When I use this primer, my makeup lasts much longer. It gives me a smooth surface to glide on my makeup. It makes my skin feel soft.

This "primer" doesn't compete with high end brands. It does notmimimize pores andjust makes skin feel heavy. It is advertised as having a brightening pink pigment but it just appears clear. Does not seem to fully absorb into skin. You get what you pay for- benefit, stila offer MUCH better products.

I'm not a big primer user. I just started using it mid last year. The only other primer I have used is ELF's Mineralized Primer. Compared to that, this primer keeps the river of oil that comes out my face at bay better. I don't have blot my face thru out the day. I like the smooth silicone texture and it makes applying my foundation, bb creams and powders much easier. It gets the job done.

I bought this based on a review I saw in a magazine and I liked it for the price. What I found was it made my make up feel slippery- like the foundation woud wipe off if I put on - say a cream blush. I use mostly powder blush,etc. so I didn't mind too much. I recently tried a sample of the Smashbox facial primer and it clearly showed that sometimes you get what you pay for. It really helps smooth and retain my foundation. I will probably buy the Smashbox brand as long as I can afford to.
