Great color but is messy...here is what works for me. I don't use the bleach because it is very harsh on hair. Use in a basement sink if you have one, it will stain everything. Don't wear a shirt. Apply color with a hair paint brush, start at roots and paint on, then at roots on side of head and brush in with the paint brush. This is time consuming. If you have long hair get some clips. Bunch into sections of hair and apply and hold secure with clips. Wait about an hour. Rinse out and use conditioner. Also, I do not use shampoo. I only use conditioner on my hair, and if you do this every day rather than the harsh chemicals in shampoo, the fading is minimal and your hair is still clean. Use old, dark towels to dry. If it drips, scrub hard on skin with some soap and water and old washcloth. Color looks great :)

A couple years ago I had my hair dyed bright red at a salon and I loved it but it was expensive and it didn't last very long. I used the Splat brand and did it myself and it lasted a lot longer and is so much more vibrant! I love it and will contiue to use this brand1

so pretty!! I diyed a shadow box and got so many compliments!! It does stain skin and clothing when hair is weat but in you use garnie color stay conditioner and shampoo it usually doesnt come out.

this was really easy to use - not smelly and thick enough not to spill anywhere. i used it for blue highlights in my daughter's hair (with foil) and it was very easy to paint on. it contains enough for several applications of highlights. i did not use the bleach as she has very light blond hair, and the blue showed up wel. we did do an initial test, leaving it on for about 10 minutes, which ashed out. 25 minutes did the trick!

Great but beware hair dye will continue to run out of your hair for days. If hair is wet the color will go on your clothing.

I will never use this product again. I had to have my hair dyed black and have a professional stylist do it because it was that bad!! NEVER AGAIN!!!!!

I love Splat. The cost of the kit is exremely reasonable. Most other "crazy color" hair dyes cost as much or more and do not include the bleach for ligthening before you dye. There is no unpleasant smell, the colors are vibrant and last for quite a while, though I only wish they were actually permanent (the only reason I gave 4 out of 5 stars.)

Maybe this works great on average hair, but I used it and I used it on my friend (we both have thick, black, Asian hair). I left my bleach on for an hour (the maximum) and on her for 40 min because it began to get VERY blonde near her roots. The bleaching agent bleeds and migrated on BOTH of us (we only bleached sections- not our whole heads) and was fairly difficult to keep contained in sections and bleached unevenly. It drips EVERYWHERE.
As for the colour, I kept mine on for 3 hours because it just stayed at a bright fuchsia pink (the picture showed a deep, dark purple) and hers was electric blue- which worked near the root, but ended up greenish in the lower half of her long hair (she kept colour on for an hour). We heat stamped and used dryers throughout the process to assist the hair cuticle to open up and take the colour more deeply.
In the end, both of us had to apply additional Punky Colour in order to achieve a strong, clean pigment. The bleach works, but not consistently or cleanly.
