Comments about Hot Tools NanoCeramic Curling Iron:

I was really excited when I received this for Christmas. However, from day one, my thick hair continuously got stuck in the clamp and pulling it out. I dealt with it for about 8 months since it was only a couple strands each time I used it. However, yesterday, after only having it for 8 months, the power flickers on and off based on the position of the cord. It rotates freely as you turn the iron when curling hair. I tried taping it in one position so it stayed on, but after a few curls, it went dead again. Obviously it's something to do with the cord. But now I'm out a curling iron. My Chi flat iton has lasted me 7 years and still going strong. I don't know how a Hot Tools curling iron could possibly die on me after only 8 months.

The iron works great on my hard to curl hair. I can use it on lower heat that I did on my old one, so I am hoping less hair damage.

I loved this iron while it was working. I'm a budget buyer and this was a gift. Sadly, after one year + a month, the on/off switch has stopped working (responding). If this is an example of Hot Tools quality, I'd try a higher end brand or stick with Revlon. My old Revlon which is ugly to look at from hair spray stains and such, still works like a charm.

I love the Hot Tool with the metal barrel which I have been using for four years. I went to replace the product which they did not have. The salesperson suggested I purchase this one. My hair would not stay in the barrel and the ceramic did not heat up as well as the metal barrel.

That is correct, this tool is not dual voltage. This tool is designed to operate at US standard voltage 120V. Hot Tools does not advise to use it with a converter, as it may damage the tool.

I have long (to the middle of my back), thick, fine, wavy, color treated/damaged hair. Would the barrel be long enough for lose waves? Would you have a suggestion for a curling iron that would be perfect for me?

                                A:

The NanoCeramic material of the barrel is ideal for color-treated, damaged, or over-processed hair. NanoCeramic means that there are finer particles of ceramic that are used in making the surface of the iron for a smoother surface that glides across hair more easily and heats more evenly. For long hair like yours, to create loose waves, we'd suggest using either the 1-1/4" or 1-1/2" barrel size.
