Comments about Dermadoctor Poetry in Lotion:

I used to worship the sun every chance I got. Now that I'm 47, it's REALLY starting to show. Over the past couple of years my skin/appearance has gone downhill fast. I've made so many impulse buys for age spot and wrinkle products, in a desperate attempt to, at least, mask the damage. But to no avail, nothing seems to work and I just don't have the patience or the money to use some expensive, long drawn out regimen. As of late, I'd really noticed my age spots were a lot more prominent and my skin, in general, just makes me look older than I am. I was desperate...

So a couple weeks ago I was at my local Ulta, looking at some more age spot/wrinkle products, when a sales girl approached me. I was instantly annoyed because I didn't want to engage in conversation and have someone trying to "sell me" on more than I was prepared to invest. But I hesitantly obliged and confessed why I was there. She asked if she could suggest something over in the cosmetics department. I instantly thought "Great, she's going to try to sell me $300 worth of skin care products that I can't afford and won't have the patience to use". But she handed me this ONE product and said that's all I need. She began telling me of the wonderful powers of Retinol. Of course, I'd heard of it, but I'd never dabbled in its magic before. She suggested that I give it a try and assured me that I didn't have to buy the whole line to see a difference in my skin. That was two weeks ago and I plan on stopping by Ulta to find her and give her a big hug, as soon as I get a chance.

No, my age spots aren't gone... but I can definitely tell they're fading. I have one large spot on my cheek that's going to take a while, I'm sure, but I can already tell that its more subdued... and the rest of my face has taken on a very noticable, smoother, more even toned appearance. I feel so much better about the way I look! I haven't had any irritation and I've been using it pretty much on a daily basis (apparently, I don't have super sensitive skin?). I'm not sure if it's my skin or my regimen? I don't really do anything special, I don't think... but if it helps anyone else, I wash, use a toner, let my face dry, use the Poetry in Lotion, and then I go back later before I crawl in bed and put CereVe moisturizing lotion PM on my face (Great stuff, by the way, but I plan on trying the Dermadoctor Wrinkle Revenge soon). In the morning my skin looks and feels so smooth and healthy. I love this stuff! Well worth the money, in my opinion.

          Caused Skin to Peel

Comments about Dermadoctor Poetry in Lotion:

I purchased several products in this line, and after using for a day or two, my skin started burning and it eventually peeled. I returned all the products I purchased, as I was not sure if it was one product or another that was causing the burn.

Comments about Dermadoctor Poetry in Lotion:

Okay, I'm with the other reviewers who stated that they really didn't know what they were getting into when using this product. I.Had.No.Idea.

The staff at Ulta did NOT speak enough about the potency of Retinol in Poetry in Lotion. I was a virgin Retinol user, and was not asked whether I had used it before. I was simply told to apply it at bedtime, twice per week.

By the third application, I looked like I had a sunburn on my face and I stopped using the product. It took 10 DAYS for everything to calm down.

However, I COULD SEE that it was working ~ the collagen reproduction (or what ta heck EVER Retinol does) was definitely increased and my skin looked younger, smoother and less sun-damaged.

I did NOT continue using it after I looked all sun-kissed and taught. I am going to start up again tonight (Monday) after cleansing, waiting a long time, and also not RIGHT before I go to bed (I read somewhere that putting your face on the pillow can spread it and affect other areas like eyes).

DO NOT GET THIS NEAR YOUR EYES UNLESS YOU'RE A VETERAN RETINOL USER.

USE VERY LITTLE OF THE PRODUCT, ONE PUMP, AND DOT IT ON YOUR FACE AND FOREHEAD, THEN LIGHTLY BLEND.

I'm looking forward to posting another review after giving this a second chance by SLOWLY building up tolerance!

Comments about Dermadoctor Poetry in Lotion:

So I have been using this cream for almost 6 weeks now. I can tell you I had some bumps along the way, but it was well worth it. So don't give up too soon.

Let's start with the horrifying part of my experience. The girls at Ulta informed me to apply the cream to my entire face and neck every other day, just a small amount. Well, after 1.5 week of usage my eyelids and neck burned so bad it was unbearable. My eyelids got really dry/swollen and my neck looked like someone put a rope and pulled tightly that it left red and burn marks. It was painful! I had to wear a scarf for like 2 weeks, so folks wouldn't think otherwise.

After doing some research online, a post stated to avoid the neck and eyes as the skin there is the most delicate and thinnest. Suprisingly, the box nor the bottle doesn't state to avoid those areas or to use with caution. Also partially my fault and I'll be honest, I failed to let me skin dry completely and wait at least 20 minutes before applying. This may have caused the irritation as well.

As a remedy, I used natural coconut oil at first (I think it may have irritated it even more). So I bought an aloe vera plant, split it in half, and used that to soothe the pain and it definitely worked immediately. After a few days, I switched over to natural coco butter cream and it made the scars almost go away after about 2 weeks. Thank god, I'm still applying today.

Now let's get to the good stuff. Besides all the negatives, you will experience a lot of dryness, roughness and flaking on your skin. When you try to apply make up on top, it may look even worse due to all the bumpiness from the flakes. But you have to be patient and let if fally off by itself. Everyone's skin is different, mine took a solid 5.5 weeks for it to finally stop.

Today, my skin feels softer, smoother and firmer. I can tell my sunspots and wrinkle lines have diminished by say 75%. I am 39 years old, and I can honestly say I think my skin looks 10 years younger. That's without make up as well. When I do apply make-up, you can hardly see my pores and my skin is a smooth canvas where my foundation blends in nicely.

I would recommend this cream if you want younger, healthier and glowing looking skin. If you avoid the mistakes I made, you may see even better results sooner than later. I can't wait to see what my skin looks like in another 2 months. Most importantly, wear SPF 30 during the day and underneath your make-up. It makes a huge difference and it will protect your exposed new skin skin. Sunglasses, scarf around your head, or a hat also is a must if you want to take extra precautions as I did.

I know this review is lengthy, but this is my honest first-hand experience. If I could better inform someone thinking about trying this cream beforehand, then this review has served it's purpose and you will be glad you tried it.

Comments about Dermadoctor Poetry in Lotion:

I hate seeing the reviews of people who had redness and flaking. It is super important to use this product correctly... it is a powerful retinol formula. First, ONLY USE ON VERY DRY clean skin. Let your skin dry for an additional 20 minutes before after cleansing. Any small degree of water mixed with retinol will cause those irritating side effects. Also...you must work up to daily use. Start with one or two nights a week, then add another night for a week or two...gradually build up to nightly use. You will see improvement. BTW, I learned all this from a dermadoctor rep in the store!

Comments about Dermadoctor Poetry in Lotion:

I use many Dermadoctor products and it's hard to say which one has had the best effect on my skin. I would say using Poetry in Motion along with the skin corrector product has done great things for my skin. It looks so healthy, even toned, moist and very hydrated. I did not have wrinkles to begin with so I can't comment on that. But I get a large number of comments on my skin since I started using these products. Highly recommend for people of color who have uneven skin tone.
