Comments about DevaCurl No-Poo Zero Lather Conditioning Cleanser:

I like how this product worked on my hair but I can't get past the SMELL. The cleansing formula left my hair soft & fluffy, & I didn't feel the need to wash the next day so I think the overall quality is good. However, I can't continue using the product because of the smell. Sorry, but the dusty rose/floral smell reminds me of my grandma. Specifically these little shell-shaped decorative soaps she always had in the bathroom that nobody was allowed to use.
I can't handle smelling like an old lady, so I am going to have to pass on the DevaCurl.

Comments about DevaCurl No-Poo Zero Lather Conditioning Cleanser:

After doing the old school no-poo method (baking soda and apple cider vinegar) for over a year, I decided it was time to transition back to an easier hair care routine. After reading the great reviews for DevaCurl, I thought I'd give it a try. I've given my hair plenty of time to adjust to a new product, but sadly my hair is greasy, flat and frizzy. I have fine hair and somewhat tight curls/ringlets. I used to be able to go a week between washing, but now I find I have to shampoo every other day (I should probably shampoo daily, but that's too much work!). Even my freshly washed hair is super greasy, flat and stringy. I tried using a lot of shampoo, a tiny bit, and rinsing for several minutes (I'm used to the extra rinsing that comes with no poo-ing). Oh, and the smell (is that rose?)...awful!

This product is amazing. My daughter and I have very curly hair and this product enhances those curls. Also, my daughter has very thick, tight curls. This has been the only product that takes the frizz out. Her hair also dreads very easily and this product gets out all her snarls without leaving it frizzy!

Reading the reviews I'm wondering if the bad reviewers realized before they purchased the product that it was specifically designed to not lather up? lol
First tried the line when I got my deva cut and fell in love. The shampoo, conditioner, and gel are a holy trinity. I swear you won't need any additional products if you're a 2a-3c. Type 4 curls might need to add some additional moisture to prevent frizz. Overall it's a great product and line. I have type 3b curls, fine hair, and use the shampoo every 3 days. I prefer the low-poo option however as I like to have a little lather when washing my hair.

If you are new to Deva, you should be getting your hair wet 5-6x per week with One Condition. 3 of those days you can use No-Poo/One Condition. The rest just co-wash with One Condition. Then apply your Deva styling products in soaking wet hair in the shower.

                  A:

                  Hi Laurie,
Great question. When you use No-Poo, it is important to focus on the scalp: vigorously scrub on and scrub totally OFF while you rinse. Follow with One Condition. Here you will focus on your hair (but it is perfectly fine for No-Poo to touch the hair, and One Condition to touch the scalp). Detangle with One Condition, using 4 fingers over 4 fingers, raking it in until your hair is slippery. Then rinse out totally or leave 20% in depending on your level of hydration. Then apply your DevaCurl stylers in soaking wet hair. Hope this helps!

Yes, you can use DevaCurl and/or DevaCare products on curls that you want to blow dry straight! The products will provide a healthy, moisturizing foundation for your hair. All Devacurl and DevaCare products are color safe as well.

                • Brand Expert

                  A:

You can definitely encourage curls by using DevaCurl products. Start by applying No-Poo to a wet scalp, massage the scalp vigorously with your fingertips and rinse. Be sure to use friction and massage while rinsing too. Then apply One Condition on mid-shaft to ends of the hair. Detangle hair using your fingertips. Be sure your hair is wet enough and you are using enough conditioner - it should feel like smooth ribbons. After rinsing One Condition, apply Ultra Defining Gel by gliding over your hair and then scrunching it in. Then scrunch with a microfiber towel to remove any excess water. Let dry or diffuse. Once completely dry, flip head upside down and gently scrunch hair for soft, touchable, frizz free curls.

I have natural wavy/curly hair but I get build up and dandruff sometimes, I also have color treated hair that is pretty dry? Would deva curl be a good shampoo/conditioner ? Which ones specifically would be best for me?

                1 answer

                • Brand Expert

                  A:

Yes, DevaCurl would be great for your hair! In order to avoid buildup, I would recommend using products that are silicone free and ideally water soluble. All DevaCurl are 100% sulfate, silicone and paraben free, as well as water soluble.

Start with Original No-Poo and One Condition. Apply No-Poo directly to your scalp and be sure to use a lot of friction with your fingertips while cleansing and while rinsing. Then apply One Condition on mid shaft to ends of hair and use your fingers to detangle. Then rinse and follow with your favorite styler. I would recommend scrunching in either Light Defining Gel or SuperCream for a soft hold.

If you feel like the Original No-Poo and One Condition are not providing your hair with enough moisture, try our new Decadence line that was specifically created for hair that is craving more moisture and strength.

Also does your product help with restraining growth and moisture? I need one brand of products in bathroom and I'm hoping your product is the one.

Yes, DevaCurl will absolutely work for you hair! However, I would suggest using our new No-Poo Decadence cleanser. This cleanser was created specifically for super curly hair that craves extra moisture, strength and nourishment. Follow with One Condition Decadence and new SuperCream.

I've been using No-Poo, One-Condition and the Light defining gel, and I am having trouble with frizz. I tried letting my hair air-dry, and i tried diffusing it but I am still having frizz, and my curls do not stay. I tried using the styling creme as well but am having no luck. Any suggestions? I have fine thick hair that is color treated, Type 2C.

                  A:

It could be a number of things, but let's start with usage. While using No-Poo, apply to scalp and massage vigorously. Rinse while still using friction. Apply a generous amount of One Condition mid-shaft to ends of hair and detangle with your fingers. Your hair should feel like silky ribbons when you are finished detangling. Then rinse. Tilt head forward, allowing your curls to fall over your head, and gently squeeze excess water out. Apply a generous amount of Light Defining Gel to palms and gently glide over hair, then scrunch upwards. Allow to air dry, without touching. Once completely dry, you can lightly scrunch. If this doesn't solve your frizz concerns, you can apply Styling Cream to hair (for added moisture) prior to using Light Defining Gel.

Using the DevaCurl system from start to finish will reduce frizz! We suggest starting with DevaCurl No-Poo, followed by One Condition and then either Ultra Defining Gel to define curls and/or Styling Cream for additional moisture. Also, adding Heaven in Hair (DevaCurl's deep conditioning treatment) to your regimen will help to provide maximum hydration that your dry hair is looking for.

DevaCurl No-Poo is safe to use on children, however it does contain a peppermint scent that can affect the eyes. Therefore, we suggest using DevaCurl Low-Poo instead.
