We bought this straightener and we were very disappointed. We returned it. It did NOT get as hot as it stated based on others we have used.

The longer plates sound like a good idea in theory but was clumsy to work with. This iron wasn't any better than the $25 one I have. Disappointing.

Comments about Hot Tools NexGen 1 Inch Flat Iron:

I really wanted to love this flat iron. Have been using flat irons for years and felt it was time to upgrade, Hot Tools has such a great reputation but the NexGen is left lacking in the effectiveness. Pros:
              - cord swivels at base so it doesn't get tangled
              - has very long cord
              - really like the NexGen Coconut Jojoba Oil that comes with it, will consider buying a bottle separately from the appliance
              Cons:
              - doesn't turn on as soon as you touch the "on" button, you have to hold it down for several seconds for it to turn appliance on
              - only heats up to 390 automatically, if you want it hotter or cooler you have to hold down the +/- buttons until it reaches the temperature you want
              - starts to loose heat as soon as you use it and doesn't reheat immediately

Unfortunately this is going back to Ulta.

Total waste of time and money

              By Amanda S.

Comments about Hot Tools NexGen 1 Inch Flat Iron:

I purchased this "professional quality" flat iron and was excited at how smoothly it glided over my hair.

My excitement was short lived, however, when I noticed that with each pass of the flat iron the temperature was dropping rapidly. My hair is fine/medium, and slightly wavy. It's usually pretty easy to straighten, and in the past I've been able to straighten my hair in about 5 minutes. It took me nearly 20 minutes to flat iron my hair, and even then the results were less than impressive. After I would straighten one section the flat iron would drop in temperature to about 360 degrees. No matter how long I waited, or how slowly I moved the iron over my hair, the temperature would plummet. The. I'd have to wait 40-60 seconds for it to reach the appropriate temperature.

Totally frustrating, especially for a product that costs as much as this one did. I've had better results with a $40 Conair. The flat iron itself was light, felt good in my hand, and had nice digital controls. Unfortunately it doesn't do the most basic thing it needs to do - stay hot! I will be returning this this ASAP.

I bought this and thought I loved it but when I got it home I used it and after doing two pieces of my hair it lost its heat and I would have to wait for it to heat back up. I took it back thinking something was wrong but the second one did the same thing. Very disappointed because I really liked the way it straighten and made my hair feel.

I bought this to replace two so-so flat irons that I have. I couldn't have been more pleased. The flat iron has a digital heat indicator so you know how hot it is. It left my hair straight and silky afterward. I have the NexGen dryer and curling iron and am super pleased with all three. Definitely worth the extra money.

Yes, you can certainly curl or straighten hair using this flat iron, depending on the technique used. We recommend reading the product reviews and ratings of both this product and of CHI tools. If you have thick, coarse hair, you may prefer this iron to Ultra CHI irons, since it heats to a higher temperature (450 degrees vs. 392 degrees).

Both feature a digital display and heat control. This tool's maximum temperature setting is 450 degrees F, while CHI G2's max temperature setting is 425 degrees F. Both feature similar plate material (titanium ceramic mix) for even heat to seal in shine and moisture.

This tool features Hot Tools' patented PULSE PLUS TECHNOLOGY for "Gets Hot… Stays Hot" performance, meaning that it senses heat loss and begins restoring it immediately so the iron stays hot. This tool also features a 3-year manufacturer's warranty (G2 has a 2-year).

Unlike the G2, this tool features extra-long plates for long hair and extensions and a 2-hour auto shut-off.

We hope highlighting these similarities and differences between the two models has helped you!
