Comments about Real Techniques Retractable Kabuki Brush:

I needed a new blush brush and was not sure which one to get. This one was recommended, but I have a small face and this brush does not give me the type of coverage I am looking for. It is a really neat brush, collapses for easy travel, and you can make the brush more compact or larger, because it is retractable, but I end up putting too much blush on. Part of it may also be because I am older and have dry skin and deeper wrinkles than I used to have. :( I really really wanted it to work.

Comments about Real Techniques Retractable Kabuki Brush:

I use this brush with liquid-to-powder foundation and it's amazing. This is the one of the best brushes I have used for applying foundation. It's soft, and doesn't leave behind brush streaks.

Bought this to apply mineral makeup but it didn't work well for that. Then decided to try for applying powder on top of liquid foundation but it moves the foundation around. Bristles are too dense and heavy.

I ended up returning this item because i wanted it for powder touch-ups through out the day. Unfortunately the bristles feel like they stick to your skin and kinda move your makeup around when you apply it the face. I think i need something more fluffy as this applied too much powder to my face which i didn't want.

I want to purchase a Real Techniques brush. Do you think that this is their best brush for contouring with bronzer? Should I choose this brush for contouring with bronzer or another one from the Real Techniques line?

You can certainly use the Retractable Kabuki Brush for contouring. For perfect cheekbones, use the Retractable Kabuki Brush with bronzer or highlighter to define and contour the hollows of the cheeks.

We also frequently recommend the Bold Metals 301 Flat Contour Brush for contouring, which has a dense, flattop head that creates shadows and highlights on targeted areas of face to play up your favorite features. It's deal for contouring and sculpting:

what is the difference between this brush and the stippling or powder brush? I'm looking for light, all over coverage of a setting/finishing powder. I'm a beginner and not sure which brush is best to achieve my goal. thanks.

                            A:

The great thing about your question is that you really can't go wrong with any of the brushes you mentioned for application! Since you are looking for light, all-over coverage, I would recommend either the powder brush or the stippling brush. They both are going to give you a beautiful, flawless finish that's light & airbrushed-looking. The Retractable Kabuki will give you more coverage, based on the amount of bristles, how densely they are packed and the angle that the bristles are cut (they are designed to hold more product).

o The Stippling brush is wonderful for achieving that light finished look you talk about. The duo fiber bristles are cut in such a way to hold the product, but disperse it in a lighter way than the Retractable Kabuki. This brush also is great for multi-tasking. You can use it for setting/finishing, but also for application of foundation, powder and blush. If you're a beginner, that might be a great option for you as far as being able to use it so many different ways.

o The Powder brush is just that – perfect for powder! It will also give you a lighter look, but perhaps based on the number of bristles and the cut, it is going to give you slightly more coverage than the Stippling. You can multi-task with this brush (using it for powder as well as blushes and bronzers), but it doesn't give you the option to use it for foundations.

We hope this extra info helps! :-)

Here are the length measurements for the Real Techniques Retractable Kabuki Brush:

                            • With the cap on, brush retracted: 4.75" long
                            • Without cap on, brush retracted: 4.5" long
                            • Brush "out", cap off: since the brush has an angled bristle head, the length from the base of the brush to the longest bristle is just under 4.5" long.

                            We hope this helps! :-)

                            From Real Techniques:

"Our brushes are all made of the same synthetic hair material. However, some of the hairs are produced slightly differently to create the best end result for the brush/product types. So, both the Kabuki and Powder have wavy hair and a slightly smaller bristle diameter in comparison to some of our other brushes like the foundation brush."
