    Good spot treatment

    By Audrey

    from Stillwater, OK

Comments about Mario Badescu Drying Mask:

I have dry, sensitive, acne-prone skin, so I bought this to use as a spot treatment, hoping the kaolin would shrink some pimples before I was a bridesmaid in a wedding, and the sulfur would help with some bacteria. I applied it to unwashed skin, left it on for about 20 min, rinsed off, and then washed with normal facial cleanser. I didn't experience any extra dryness, but I was careful only to apply it to pimples.

I used it last week on Tuesday, and it shrank the pimples I applied it to significantly (both whiteheads and papules). Redness was reduced also. These results lasted several days: it is now Monday, and a few of the pimples have returned in smaller versions, but not all of them, which is way more than I expected - I figured it would just shrink them temporarily for a day or two, like other clay masks.

It smells like tires when you open the container, but I don't find it too bothersome on my face, and it leaves a slight sulfur scent when washed off your skin. It's much easier to use than the masks where you have to add your own water, and it washes off much more easily than any other clay mask I've used. I will keep using it as an occasional spot treatment.

    Oil control!

Comments about Mario Badescu Drying Mask:

This product has definitely helped in controlling my acne-prone skin. I used it 3-4 times a week when I first purchased it, because I had a significant amount of acne. Since then, my acne is much more controlled and now I only use it 1-2 times a week. The only downside is that it doesn't smell that great, otherwise I would recommend this product for anyone with oily, acne covered skin!

      Smells HORRID!

Comments about Mario Badescu Drying Mask:

I was so excited to try this drying mask, especially on areas where I have breakouts. However, the mask smells SO awful that I can't even stand to have it on my face! I have only used it as a SPOT TREATMENT, so have used a very small amount, and I still have to wash it off immediately. The smell doesn't go away once it dries either. Wish I could get my money back. One of the worst skin care products I've ever used.

      By Ree Ree

      from TN

Comments about Mario Badescu Drying Mask:

My daughter has only used this twice so far, so can't really tell if it helps with her acne and oily skin. The smell is terrible!! It smells like kerosene. After she washes it off of her face you can still smell it.

I used this one time when I was having trouble with breakouts and boom- all of my acne was gone- and it didn't come back for a few days.. It definitely dries out my skin so now I only put it on problem areas but it works great for me. Only negative is that it smells awful.

Hi, is this product more effective than the drying cream? Which one works faster and better?
Asked on 5/29/2016 by Dalia from New Haven, CT

            1 answer

            • Brand Expert

              A:

It depends on the type and severity of your breakouts. The Drying Mask is extremely effective as an all over treatment to help shrink and dry out blemishes - and is great for wide-spread problems. Drying Cream is a spot treatment that is not rinsed off. We recommend that Drying Cream be applied sparingly to small patches of under-the-surface bumps.

Yes, you can use the Special Cucumber Lotion after you remove the mask with warm water. You can then apply moisturizer all over and spot treat with the Drying Lotion.

          • Q:

The instructions say it is best when used as a companion product to Mario Badescu's Healing & Soothing Mask. Do you recommend using the Healing & Soothing mask immediately after/the same day as the Drying Mask (to moisturize after 'drying')? Or would you recommend doing these masks on different days?

              A:

For best results, we recommend using the Drying Mask one day and using the Healing & Soothing Mask the following the day. You can repeat this pattern as necessary.

Mario Badescu Drying Mask is recommended to help dry out pimples and oil and to help clarify problematic, acne-prone skin. Mario Badescu Special Mask for Oily Skin is recommended to rebalance oily skin and control oil buildup that leads to clogged pores.

Asked on 1/10/2015 by Carls from San Francisco, Ca

            1 answer

            • Staff Expert

              A:

The amount of time it will takes to see results depends on your active acne and your skin type. On average, we would expect results within 7-10 days.

If you are experiencing cystic acne, to maximize the effectiveness of this mask, we recommend using it with our Buffering Lotion. You should first apply the Buffering Lotion on the cystic acne spots and then apply the Drying Mask on top. Leave on for the recommended 10-15 minutes and rinse with warm water.

If your skin tends to be oily, we suggest you use the mask every other night on your entire face (avoiding the eye area) and alternate on your off night with the Healing and Soothing Mask to control irritation and redness caused by acne. This method of using the Drying Mask (for oily skin only!) will have you using a mask every single night until you get the acne under control, alternating between the Drying Mask and the Healing and Soothing Mask.

If you have combo or dry skin, we recommend you use the Drying Mask 2-3 times per week ONLY on the active acne spots. You should not put the Drying Mask on you entire face if you have any kind of dryness. You should only apply to the areas that are actively broken out.
