I have red hair and I'm a natural blonde. I've had this color for about a year and I'm so sick of it! I am going to get it back to blone at the salon soon but decided I wanted to fade it a lot so it's much easier to get light. It definitely faded it but only on the top. And I can't get this horrid smell out of my hair

Product worked well even on bright burgandy hair dye. I deep conditioned after using and my hair didnt feel damaged at all. I should have done two applications but was worried about damaging my hair. It cut most of the red out and i was able to do a darker brown over it. Did make my scalp a lil numb....

Comments about Color Oops Hair Color Remover:

This product worked well for me, was inexpensive and easy to use, but one needs to read the enclosed information & directions, and follow the latter carefully. I used the extra-strenght variety, since my color was over a year old. Disclosure about me / my hair: I have long (mid-back) dark blonde hair that is fine but plentiful. I've colored my hair for over 30 years, and used many different products, but I'd never used a hair-color remover before. My hair has been colored an intense apricot red (like a deeper, redder strawberry blonde) for about 5 years. I last had it colored over a year ago, but that was in the spring and it faded during the summer, and meanwhile the outgrowth was a bit lightened by the sun, so I didn't feel the need to retouch. I was rocking' a sort of ombre look for the next few months, and growing my hair out, but finally decided I needed to get back to something closer to my natural blonde color family. I wanted to take as much of the red tones from the previous color out of my hair as possible, and this product did just that, even though the color had been there for over a year when I used Color Oops.

I did a lot of research beforehand, and here's a summary of what I learned. This product will remove color from the most recent dye-job only, and it cannot reverse any bleaching process. Since most hair-color contains peroxide, if you have lightened your hair with whatever color you've put on it, Color Oops will take out the color, but cannot undo the lightening. So unless you've colored your hair only once, (and there are no other former dye-jobs under the current one) and stayed at the same level, (or darker) this product will not restore your hair to it's natural color. It can't, and isn't designed to do that; no hair-color remover can, even in the salon. It's really important to be clear about that and adjust your expectations accordingly before using this product, or you will probably be disappointed.

For me, this product was just what I needed. Before using it, I didn't wash my hair for a day, and I was careful with the directions. I also did a 24-hour patch test, and a strand test, and I can't recommend these enough. Don't rush the process, and you'll get optimal results. Yes, the product smells once you mix it, just like a lot of salons smell of hair product; it isn't as bad as rotten eggs, or worse than a lot of perm / relaxer products out there. The smell does not linger after you rinse, but yes, you do need to rinse a LOT. I rinsed for 5 minutes more than the time recommended in the directions, just to be sure, and I used a clarifying shampoo to make sure I could get all the Color Oops out. I didn't use any conditioner, and my colored hair seemed very, very dry when I'd finished, but I towel-blotted it and let it dry naturally to see the effect sans any other product, so to speak. It did just what I'd expected (and what I'd seen on the strand test); my hair was a mid-tone golden blonde, (the gold is natural; I have a lot of red undertones in my hair) but was not brassy. It was still lighter than my natural grown-out hair-color, which is what I expected, and the Color Oops didn't affect my natural color at all. I put a good amount of an argan oil deep conditioning product (for use on dry hair) on the ends, and twisted the whole thing up into a top-knot for the night. The next morning, most of the argan oil had been absorbed (and I recommend using this -- which you can often get at a health-food store for less than you'd pay at a drug store, beauty supply store, or salon -- or olive oil as an overnight, leave-in conditioner. Just cover your pillow with a towel if you're worried about staining the pillow-case). I shampooed my hair with a very diluted version of my ordinary shampoo, (1-3 proportions) conditioned it well, and when it dried it was just fine, and not dry at all. There was no lingering smell from the Color Oops, and I am very pleased with the condition of my hair, especially given that it's long, but also fine! The box says you can re-color your hair immediately, but I liked the color enough that I thought I'd live with it for awhile. Eventually I plan to permanently color it all to a natural medium blonde, and will use a 10 developer on the previously colored ends, and then a 20 developer on the grow-out. I may use a glaze if I need to even out the color beyond that, but I'm not sure. Good luck to you in your quest for beautiful hair -- read directions and do your research, but be brave and try it!

This product is really great. My natural hair is light brown and I dyed it black. I used color oops and saw a change after 5-10 minutes. One tip, after shaking the contents mine started spitting out as if I shook a soda so be careful, also it's more liquid than creamy so protect your bathroom!!

I had straight, healthy, manageable hair prior to using this product. Using color oops is probably the biggest most regrettable mistake I have ever made. My hair is now dead, dry & completely unmanageable. I purchased very expensive conditioning products in an attempt to repair the damage color oops did to my hair & nothing is working. I can't even put my fingers through my hair anymore. I wish someone warned me this could happen because I would have NEVER used it. I just want my old hair back!!!!! If anyone has any suggestions or recommendations for fixing this, please share tgem with me. I am desperate!

I though this woked great. I am a natural dirty blonde and I have been dying my hair a dark red for three years. I tried color oops after doing some research on line. The smell isn't that bad but the shampooing is a little exhaustining. I used Aussie e minute miracle after shampooing any my hair wasn't even dry. It got out a decent amount of red and turned my hair an orangish strawberry blonde. I then went for wella T18 toner from sallys on my wet hair and it ended up a beatiful light ash brown with hints of blonde on top that look like highlights witch I love!

Comments about Color Oops Hair Color Remover:

Okay before I get into the product let me tell you about myself, I basically love to dye my hair, I have ever since 5th grade when I decided to bleach my hair without my parents knowing. Always I get bored of my hair color very fast, and typically dye my hair a different color every month, and I've bleach it and had an ombré a few months before.

Well, in February I decided to take a drastic change from my very light auburn hair, to black. It was basically the worst decision of my life. I enjoyed it for awhile until March when I was practically in tears because I hated it so much. i did lots of research on how to get rid of black and I kept seeing "Color Oops."
I decided to check it out, I read a million reviews and was a little unsure, but bought 2 boxes, of the Extra-Strength Color Oops.

When I got home I read the directions and applied it to my hair (the smell was terrible). I waited the 20 minutes, then got into the shower to rinse it out for the extremely long time got out and waited for it to dry. When it dried I saw it was slightly lighter at the top but no lighter at the bottom. (Keep in mind that had an ombré late last year so it was bleached at the bottom, and the black dye would obviously take very strongly at the bottom.)

I was a little disappointed but I decided to try the Color Oops again the next week. I went out and bought it and applied it like last time and did the same thing, but started applying to on the bottoms instead of the roots. Once I rinsed it out and waited for it to dry, I saw a difference in it majorly. I told myself I'd try the Color Oops one more time the following week.

So, this morning I went out and got the Color Oops an applied to the same, starting at the bottom. Did my thing, waiting for it to dry, and wow was I shocked! All of the remaining black was gone and I was amazed! It is now back to the auburn color that it was before dying it black.

I highly recommend this! I hoped this helped.

I dyed my hair bright red, I'm naturally blonde.
I didn't want to bleach my hair since bleach is harsh.

I tried color oops because I saw that it took all colors out And the reviews were good.
It doesn't smell as bad as people say, but it does smell foul.
It worked to a point but definitely not what was advertised.
It took me from a bright red and lightened me to a ginger color.

It didn't take out "all artificial colors". Or take me back to my natural color as advertised.

I'm slightly disappointed. But it lightened me enough to do as I wanted.
I would reccomend this to a friend. But I'd tell them the side effect.
It also dried my hair out. Definitely use a deep conditioner like I did to minimalist the effects.

                                False advertising

the product did get the unwanted color out of my hair but turned my a hair a copper color. (I'm naturally a brunette). the smell is horrible. smells like sewage or rotten eggs or something but it's bad. I've washed my hair 2 times since I've used this product and dyed my hair and I can still smell it a little in my hair. It is gentle enough that you can dye your hair after you use it. it worked good overall so if you can get past and stomach the smell then get it.
