Comments about Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge:

It worked fine at first. It wasn't incredible but I was happy to have a new sponge. Eventually it was so dirty I couldn't stand it. No matter what I tried to clean it there was still makeup stuck on it. I was cleaning it one day and it just fell apart completely. Feels like I wasted my time.

                          Hi Tate,

There are certain situations where that phrase "you get what you pay for" is true. I don't think this is one of them. Our Miracle Complexion Sponge is, without a doubt, our most popular item in the Real Techniques line not only because it's affordable, but also because it is high quality.

One of the reasons I would probably recommend going with the Miracle Complexion sponge is its affordability. Because of the porous nature of these sponges, you will want to change it out every 90 days or so, based on how you use it. If it was something you bought once every year, a splurge might be the way to go - but because you will need to replace it pretty often, your wallet might like it better if you went with the Miracle Sponge.

And, you can also buy our Twin Pack Miracle Complexion Sponge and save a few bucks (Ulta Item #2284068)!

If you do a search for Beauty Blender vs Miracle Sponge on Google or YouTube, you will probably find a lot of people saying that the Miracle Sponge is the way to go. I tend to agree with them! :)

                          Thanks!

                          Hi makeupobsession,

This Miracle Sponge is one of the best, most multi-tasking product we make, and I love when people ask questions about it! :)

The answer is yes - it will work really well for blending a contoured look. It will also actually be great for applying the contour directly to the hollows of your cheek. If you check out the video on the Miracle Complexion Sponge page on Ulta.com, there is a video tutorial by one of the makeup artists who helped us create this item. At the 1:27 mark, she shows how to apply blush with the sponge, which you could copy for your contour product.

                          Hope that helps!!

                          Hi Alivia!

We LOVE that you love the Miracle Complexion Sponge!! It is such an amazing product, isn't it?! :)

That is fantastic that you are so conscious of cleaning it - using clean tools is so key to getting the most out of them! I would probably recommend cleaning it after each use, so the product that you've used doesn't have a chance to soak in to the sponge.

Make sure, also, that you put it on a little tray or towel in the open air to dry it, too - that's key to extending the life of the sponge.

If you use your sponge on a daily or somewhat regular basis, we recommend replacing it every 60-90 days. Since it sounds like you're taking such good care of it, you could probably go about every 90 days!

Thanks so much - hope that helps!

                          Hi Rose,

The great thing about the Miracle Complexion Sponge is that it's so multi-functional that you can use it however it works best for you.

Our makeup artists (who are the geniuses behind the brand) recommend that you use the flat side for applying your foundation and blending. It enables you to get an even finish and you can also "push" the sponge onto your skin, which will leave bit more product on the areas you might need a bit more coverage on.

You can watch their tutorial here: http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod5960824

                          Hi Dee,

Thanks so much for your question. It can be a challenge sometimes, can't it?

I can tell you that the Miracle Complexion Sponge is probably one of the best applicators you can use for dry, flaky skin not only because of it's softness, but also because you can easily push the product on your skin and blend a bit gentler with the sponge that a normal brush.

Part of what is going to affect your skin's dryness will be the types of products you use. I would recommend speaking to your doctor or a dermatologist to get their advice on ideal products for your skin type.

But, for gentle application, the Miracle Complexion Sponge is a wonderful thing!

                          Thanks!

                          Hi Preeences,

Such a great question and one that we get quite often!

The amazing thing about this sponge is that you can use it either wet or dry, depending on the look you are going for.

For a more airbrushed finish, it's best to use the sponge wet with liquid or cream foundation. Submerge the sponge in water and the squeeze out the excess liquid. Apply the foundation directly to the sponge and work through the skin, blending and building to the desired coverage.

For a more natural finish, you can use the sponge dry with a powder foundation.

And, since the sponge is so versatile, you can use the pointed tip with concealer to hide any blemishes or spots.

Remember to always wash the sponge thoroughly after use and allow it to dry on a soap dish or tray to enable air to get to the entire sponge.

                          Thanks and enjoy!

Hi April - Great question! And I actually went to our Contouring Expert for the answer. Here is what she said: It is actually perfect with both liquid and powder makeup. If you want a sheer or matte finish, just use the sponge dry, if you want a dewey or heavier finish you can get the sponge wet, ring it out so its just damp and use your powder with that!

Hope that helps! Thanks so much for asking!

Miracle Complexion Sponge is on the firmer side, but it can be used damp or dry. Its texture is very soft and smooth, and it works wonderfully for both application and blending of foundation and other makeup. We definitely recommend watching Sam's tutorial video that is embedded within the product description!

Can you use this sponge to apply syrums eye creams and moisturizers? If so how should I apply those? Should I use one for my makeup and a separate one else for skincare ?

That is a great question! This little sponge has so many wonderful uses & we just keep coming up with more! However, we actually do not recommend that you use it with any type of skin lotions or serums. Typically, those types of product have a thicker consistency than the sponge can handle and may clog it up, which could lead to it not being a hygienic as it normally should be. If you have a very light serum, you could use it in small amounts under your eye, using the space right near the point of the sponge (use more of the side of the sponge, not the actual point – we don't want you to poke your eye out! :-) ). If you are going to use light serums on your sponge, make sure you use a separate one for your makeup and make sure you clean the serum sponge every time you use it!
