Comments about Hot Tools 1 Inch Digital Salon Flat Iron w/Titanium Plates:

I would not recommend. It consistently burned and dried my hair out. I returned the product after using for 1 month. I use thermal oil with additional product to protect my hair prior to applying heat but no good results. I've owned Chi and Paul Mitchell flat irons and wanted to try a different brand but completely unsatisfied.

I bought this in May, I had a Babyliss loved it, but it only lasted about 2- 3 years. I had a Chi before that lasted about the same time. Hot Tools didn't even last 5 months!!! The temperature said 400 degrees but it barely heated up and now the heat only lasts for less than a minute. Going back to Babyliss, its worth the extra money

the stylist at the salon in ulta used a pink flat iron, a chi it turned out. loved it so much, asked her to show it to me in the store. we came upon the hot tools pink one & she said its pretty much the exact same thing at a cheaper cost! very impressed, used it for regular flat ironing & to create curls or beach waves. LOVE IT!

I bought this product because my other Hot Tools straightener stopped working. After using this one twice on my extremely curly hair, I have found that it works really well. I researched a few other ones before buying and found the settings and the placement of the buttons on this one are great. A few others I looked at reviews stated the control buttons were placed in a position where your hand would press them while using it. This one there is no issue with that. I love Hot Tools products and would recommend them to anyone. Only reason its not a 5 is because I haven't had it long enough to fully "break it in"

I needed to replace my Chi, and thought I'd try this since it was cheaper. This product pulled at my hair, and didn't straighten very well. I promptly exchanged it for another Chi.

                              • Q:

I am browsing at different flat irons as an old one I have doesn't seem to be working for me. Which is better for coarse, very thick, hard to straighten hair - ceramic or titanium? What heat temperature is good on that type of hair texture? I use 430 degrees and doesn't seem to straighten that good only 80% of my hair straightens while the rest has bumps and have to go over it a lot.

Is there somewhere on Ulta's site to get flat iron tips? With this product, how do you know if it is working out for you or not? I am seeing if I could find a good flat iron for a good price that will straighten my hair in less time and get good results.

                                  A:

We recommend titanium plates for the coarsest, thickest hair, because titanium reaches a higher temperature than ceramic. These plates reach 450 degrees F, which will be sufficient to quickly and evenly straighten your hair without the need for multiple passes.

Titanium plates get hotter, to 450 degrees F. Ceramic plates reach 430 degrees F. Titanium is a metal, whereas ceramic is not and can be gentler on the hair when using thermal styling tools.
