The Body Shop Difference: Wild-harvested seaweed, which comes from The Body Shop's fabulous Community Trade partner in Ireland, is an incredibly nutritive sea vegetable that has been a diet stable in Japan and China for thousands of years.

How it works:
  • The Body Shop's Leave-on Seaweed products contain both wild-harvested Community Trade seaweed from Ireland and their adaptive, oil-balancing technology, so shiny zones are controlled all day.
  • Essential moisture from The Body Shop's wild-harvested seaweed is delivered to your skin where it needs it most.

Seaweed is packed with vitamins and minerals that are also great for your skin, and because it moisturizes and conditions with zero oils, it is ideal for use on normal to shiny skin. Grown without any chemicals or fertilizers, The Body Shop's seaweed is an entirely natural and sustainable ingredient that re-grows fully within two years.

Vegetarian. Not Tested on Animals. Contains Community Fair Trade Ingredients. No Phthalates. No Triclosan. No GMO.
Apply to the face and neck after cleansing and toning, using your fingertips.

Comments about The Body Shop Online Only Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream:

I like the seaweed products from the body shop, so I was excited to try this. It has a decent smell and absorbs quickly, leaving the skin matte. The problem is that the mattifying effect only lasted a couple of hours, even when using a primer. Overall, it is a good product, but if you have really oily skin then skip this.

Comments about The Body Shop Online Only Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream:

I have combination skin, & this was recommended to me by the staff at the Body Shop, who are usually very knowledgable about their products. But I didn't realize that my T zone area is REALLY oily, so this mattifies for a few hours & then the oil comes back. It's a lightweight gel like moisturizer; so it's not heavy. I think if you use it every day it'll last you about a month. But this isn't enough for me so I don't think I'll buy it again.

    NEW formulation SUCKS

Comments about The Body Shop Online Only Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream:

I used to love the old formulation of this so when it was onsale during cyber monday, I hoarded 4 of them!! ONLY to find out that the entire formulation was different. Instead of the old one which was very light, almost liquidy-watery texture which i loved, this new one was goopy and made my skin oily.
This made me so sad because this was one of my HG products!!

BUYER BEWARE! Bring back the old formulation!!

I think this product is a miracle. I have combination/oily skin, and blushers and bronzers tend to fade mere hours after applying. I always end up shiny at the end of the day, and my skin just looks like I didn't put anything on in the first place. Not anymore! This stuff is basically a moisturizer AND primer. My skin stays matte all day; my makeup more in place; and my skin doesn't dry out. I hope this product stays in production FOREVER.

Comments about The Body Shop Online Only Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream:

Having never tried the Body Shop's skincare before I was a little hesitant. After some research I decided to make this gem a morning moisturizer. I really it. It glides as a light weight gel cream onto the skin, kind of has this cooling effect, and absorbs fairly quickly. The smell is lovely. I think people go through it faster because it absorbs really well into the skin where you might think you need another layer. Remember it is made to control oil, not leave behind some like most creams do! Your skin becomes soft and matte. I have found I don't need to use a primer really anymore because this does the job it claims to do. By the end of the day my nose gets a little shiny, but other than that it controls my oil throughout the entire day. Some small downsides for me was that it had no spf (knew that when I bought it) and the packaging comes off a little cheap looking/feeling.

Comments about The Body Shop Online Only Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream:

I have been on the prowl for a moisturizer that takes the shine away from my nose for years. I saw this product and decided to give it a try. The first few days, I wasn't too happy with the product because I would put it on and there would be a shine. I later noticed that after it dried, the shine that my nose naturally has was gone...and stayed gone the entire day. I always put it on every morning after washing and drying my face. I love this stuff. Make sure you put the cap on when you finish because if you don't, the product can get thick and then feel greasy which pretty much defeats the purpose. I made that mistake but luckily it was when there was only about a days worth of product left in the jar.

I have combo skin more on oily side as the day progresses. I use this product in the AM after washing my face and it leaves my skin looking and feeling great. I don't look like a grease ball after applying it. Has a matte finish indeed and I have noticed less oil build up throughout the day.

Comments about The Body Shop Online Only Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream:

I love this because it does moisturize my skin (I have super oily skin) and any other facial moisturizer will break me out, feel greasy or heavy on my skin. This is perfect for me because is light and gel consistency. The only thing for me is that the matt effect does't last all day, specially in very hot days.

Comments about The Body Shop Online Only Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream:

I needed a moisturizer that was good for oily skin and that didn't leave me waking up super shiny. I have extremely oily Asian skin so the best thing for me is to use a day cream as a night cream. Now I did try this cream in the day time as well which is why I would say the mattifying effect does not last. An hour later I am starting to get shiny. I can put this cream on at night before bed after I have done my nightly cleansing.

I feel this cream is a good moisturizer for people with oily skin but I don't see very much mattifying.

Would you recommend this product for someone with oily skin? Or would you recommend the Tea Tree oil moisturizer from the Body Shop?

                A:

If you are oily but not blemish-prone, Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream is an excellent choice. If you are blemish-prone, the TBS Tea Tree line would be better suited for you.

If I have oily skin that is very prone to acne, can I mix this cream with products from the seaweed line as well? Would that be effective?

                A:

This moisturizer is oil-free and non-pore clogging, so it is well suited for all skin types, especially oily skin that is acne-prone. You can certainly use it in conjunction with other The Body Shop Seaweed products, such as Seaweed Deep Cleansing Facial Wash, Seaweed Pore-Cleansing Facial Exfoliator, and Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask to create a full skincare regimen to keep pores clear and to eliminate excess oil. We have a starter set for the Seaweed products that is available here:

                A:

Both products are indicated for combination/oily skin. The only real difference is the consistency and that one contains SPF and one does not; the lotion features a lighter weight, more fluid formula than the cream and is formulated with SPF 15. For daytime use, we recommend the lotion, since it provides sun protection.
