Comments about ULTA Double Duty Lipstain & Balm:

My first try with a lip stain, I tried this one and wasn't really disappointed. The BF thought it was dark but I don't wear lipstick/stain/gloss much. I got this to try a shade to wear for my wedding, I don't want my guy glossy or wearing lipstick after he kisses the bride! This one's not bad, I'll be trying a few others.

Comments about ULTA Double Duty Lipstain & Balm:

I was very excited to try this product, and for me it just didn't live up to the standards! For me it was very drying and didn't have any pigmentation, by the way I got the color fantasy. I ended up throwing it away, I cant speak for the other colors, but I was dissapointed.

When applying the lip stain, you really have to work it on your lips before the true color comes out. By half the day, the color would pretty much be gone. The balm is nice.

Comments about ULTA Double Duty Lipstain & Balm:

I love lip stains. Once they dry, they dry, and you can apply chapstick over them, drink liquids without leaving color on the cup, and know that your color hasn't shifted into that ugly ring around the lips when you press them together, they just kinda nicely (and cleanly) fade away. A lot of brands are discontinuing their stains and replacing them with balms or lipsticks, so imagine my delight when I found Ulta made them! I immediately bought all the colors my local store had in stock (all but Drama, which unfortunately was my original 2nd choice). And they can do all the things I mentioned above.

I have used (or at least applied to see the effect) each color I bought.

Romance: Beware! It is pinker than the picture online, but the color of the tube is pretty accurate in person. It's not that obnoxious pink that I accidentally buy sometimes (It's actually the first non-deep pink that looks good on me that I've found, and by non-deep, I mean not purplish or red tinted). Great for a splash of flirty or fun color without the mature suggestiveness that a red color can give. Awesome for a relaxed date or hanging out with friends. I can imagine it is the perfect spring/summer color.

Fantasy: Definitely more subtle (at least on my lips) than the online picture suggests. It's a nice nude, perfect for amping up that natural beauty you all have when you don't want obvious color, and also when you don't want nothing at all. Great all year round.

Suspense: My personal favorite! It is a reddish-brown that's great for a muted classic look, and is not overly vibrant when worn with dark colors but makes a statement all the same. I'd say this is the color of all those quiet but confident people we all know, who want to draw attention in subtle ways (at least that's how I feel =3). When fall comes, I'll be wearing this probably every day. It'd be good in winter too, but nothing can stop you from wearing any of these colors year-round.

Thriller: Okay, this one was pretty disappointing for me. I love the deep reds but let me tell you, this red is DEEP. Like, BLOOD RED. It could just be my tube, but the stain came out far too easily to apply evenly, and if you accidentally apply some on the skin around your lips, you can't just wipe it off like the others. It leaves what looks like a ravioli sauce stain. I've only tried it twice (the disastrous first time and a second time out of curiosity). The first time, I think I applied too much and also closed my mouth too soon, because when I smiled, the color was all over my teeth in the front as well as farther back than I would have expected. The second time I was more careful to let it dry, and while I didn't get any on my teeth, I still had trouble applying it and wound up with the ravioli stains again. But, being the optimist I am, the whole time I kept thinking that if I ever decided to be a vampire for Halloween again, this color would really come in handy... So buy at your own risk. Maybe if you are better than I am at applying make up (which really I'm not that great at, mostly acceptable), then this color could look riveting on you!

            General:
-I love that they all come with a balm on the bottom. Apply it once the color dries, and you've got yourself a non-dry, moisturizing lip stain. Yes, the stains make your lips dry by themselves, but that's what stains do, so use the balm like they intended you to.
-I won't give any bad reviews for the short term wear of the colors (a couple hours, pretty average for lip stains) because there is nothing to indicate how long they are supposed to last, though it would be nice if they lasted a bit longer.
-As you can infer from above, at least 3 of the 5 colors are great, and Ulta did a good job of picking the basics. What would be greater, though, I bet you can guess, is a wider selection, especially a plain, basic red. However, I don't doubt that layering the colors available could get you a couple more shades ;)
-I would say that it is easy to pull off any of the first three colors on an average day without feeling unbalanced in your style. I would definitely wear any with casual clothes, and I do, in fact. I can't wait to buy Drama and try it out!

Note: I chose Natural Style, but that is mostly because I usually go with no make up or very light and natural make up, but I do love the classic red lip look for special occasions and occasionally for no reason at all (:

I loved the coral color of the package, but couldn't get enough pigment to come out of the felt tip; also, the balm looks colored in the stick, but goes on clear.

Apply the lipstain first, followed by the balm. We recommend allowing a few seconds for the lip stain to set prior to applying the lip balm for best results.
