Comments about DevaCurl Light Defining Gel:

It is a little sticky when you put it in your hair. I let mine air dry and a couple hours later it is curly, but soft and touchable. A little goes a long way. I use a about a dime size of the product for my hair.

Comments about DevaCurl Light Defining Gel:

Absolutely love this product line. I have been so frustrated with my unevenly curly hair (it was straight until I hit about 40). Since I found Deva Curl I have found a way to create and manage beautiful curls n waves. I get compliments all the time. It's my secret weapon!

I use this every day on my curly hair. I have been using this gel for years and will not use anything else. It defines my curls even more than they are and holds them all day. I also love the clean fresh smell. I would highly recommend Deva Curl Light Defining Gel.

Comments about DevaCurl Light Defining Gel:

This product has good and bad qualities. I don't like to fuss too much with my hair and don't like to add too much leave in type product... I hate the way it makes my hair feel and I've never gotten good 2nd or 3rd day hair like some of the folks I know that pile on layers and layers of different products to get their curls to behave. This product smells great, is water soluble so it's not sticky and doesn't leave my hands feeling grimey or greasy. It's also super lightweight and doesn't leave my hair feeling product-y. On the down side, it doesn't seem to help control the frizz I deal with... and it's doesn't quite give me the hold I'm looking for (but other products that DO give me the hold are to heavy and leave my hair feeling dirty).

I use this product right after I shower. Day or night, because it is really easy to sleep on too. It looks great in the morning. Though the product is a bit pricy it holds curls so well and fights frizz incredibly. Not going back to any other product, found my holy grail.

What is the recommended application method for the Light Defining Gel? Is hit best applied on sectioned hair, or all at once on each side of the hair. I have short, super curly, fine hair.

              A:

Light Defining Gel is best applied in soaking wet hair in the shower. You don't need to section. You can apply a liberal amount to your palm, emulsify, rake on, scrunch to distribute, then scrunch with a DevaTowel when you get out of the shower. Don't touch until your hair is completely dry. Then scrunch to release the cast. For best results start with a No-Poo or Low-Poo/One Condition duo that is best for your curl type. Delight for wavy. Original for curly. Decadence for super curly.

Here's the ingredient list, for your reference Water (Aqua, Eau), VP/VA Copolymer, Glycerin, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Hydrolyzed Corn Protein, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Melissa Officinalis Extract, Humulus Lupulus (Hops) Extract, Cymbopogon Schoenanthus Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Extract, Achillea Millefolium Extract, DMDM Hydantoin, Polyquaternium-7, Aminomethyl Propanol, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Fragrance (Parfum).

          • Q:

I have long, very fine, porous hair that is naturally wavy (the top layers are much curlier then the bottom layers); but a lot of hair. I typically straighten my hair, but on the days I want to scrunch it I'd like to try air-drying it w/o it being frizzy or flat (I usually end up needing to diffuse it to get rid of frizz). Would this light weight gel work well, or should I try the ultra gel or a cream? Gels have always made my hair crunchy and creams tend to weigh it down. Any advice would be appreciated!

            • Brand Expert

              A:

Remember BPJ, curls have memory, so if you straighten a lot, you won't get perfect curl or a lot of curl at first. You'd want to start with No-Poo and One Condition to get your curls set up properly with lots of moisture. Then I would recommend the Styling Cream (more creamy moisture) rather than just the gel. You can finish with Ultra or Light in soaking wet hair and diffuse up for more volume. FYI, the difference btween Ultra and Light Defining Gel is the hold, not the weight. Neither will weigh down your curls; both will cut down on frizz. If you like this combo, you could try the Kit For All Curl Kind which has 3oz sizes of all 4 products I mentioned. Good luck and happy curls xo

              Yes! From DevaCurl:
"Once hair is permed, it is considered curly and must be treated with the same care as naturally curly hair. Moisture is the key to success with curls so the more dehydrated, the more we encourage using our botanically infused and very moisturizing cleansers, conditioners and styling products."

Light Defining Gel has a lighter hold that works best for curly and super curly hair, while Ultra Defining Gel has a strong hold that works best for wavy/slightly curly hair.
