My makeup artist friend and my Ulta hair stylist both recommended Real Techniques brushes when I was in the market for a few new face brushes. Tired of natural bristles breaking and falling out, I turned to synthetic- haired brushes recently. I'm happy with this brush; it blends my foundation seamlessly and allows me to apply in layers if I want more coverage.

                          Hi Senegence,

All of our Real Techniques and EcoTools brushes are made with synthetic bristles. Natural hair bristles are definitely getting tougher to find, but we do make a line called Studio Basics that are made from natural hair. You can find our selection on Ulta.com by searching the brand name.

                          Thanks!

                          Hi Emmsteiin,

Great question! The nice thing about the Stippling brush is its cut and design make it a good multi-tasking brush for all sorts of product types. For me personally, though, I tend to like to use cream products better with the Stippling Brush, rather than powder. Overall, I feel like the dual fiber cuts lend themselves a little better for pickup and application of cream.

                          Thanks so much!

                      • Q:

Hi! So I'm wondering if this brush would be good for when you contour and need to blend it in? I tried contouring for the first time the other day and my brush was made for applying it, but I couldn't blend it in with the rest of my face and I had literal lines from the bronzer! So I was wondering if this brush would help that problem! Or if you could point me in the direction of a brush that would? I've heard amazing things about this brand and would like to stick with it!
                        Thanks!!!

                          Hi Saracitabonita,

Thanks so much for being such a loyal fan!! We love that - and we love people like you! :)

I actually have the perfect brush recommendation for you: we have a Real Techniques Sculpting Brush that is literally made for the problem you're describing of having lines from your bronzer.

On Ulta's website, it's Item # 2283194 and I love this brush not only for contouring, but I sometimes use it for blush or foundation. It has an angled cut, which is ideal for following the contours of your face, and denser bristles, which is what you really need for blending products like this.

We also have a Sculpting Kit by Real Techniques which is only available at Ulta this year. It's Item #2285291. That comes with the Sculpting Brush that I just told you about, but also our Fan Brush (which you can't get on its own) and a Setting Brush.

I do love the Stippling Brush, but it's better for foundation, BB/CC creams, etc than sculpting and contouring.

                          Hope that helps!

                          Hi Abby,

Great question! I actually asked one of our genius makeup artists and one of the sisters behind the brand (Sam Chapman) this question and she said that one of her favorite ways to use the Stippling Brush is actually with BB creams. It's a perfect brush to use with products that will give you a lighter or more sheer finish.

The great thing, though, about this brush is that, while it's perfect for sheer finish applications, it can also be used to create a more airbrushed look by layering and blending as well as applying blush or highlighting creams. It's a perfect brush for multi-tasking!

                          Thanks! Hope that helps!

                          Hi Savvy,

What a great question! I actually wanted to go to the "pros" to get your answer for you, so I asked our makeup artist experts & the sisters behind the Real Techniques line how to achieve a flawless look using the Stippling Brush.

They use the Stippling Brush with foundations where they want a very light, airbrushed finish. It can be used with most foundations (cream/pressed), highlighters, blushers, etc., but they like them best with BB Creams and Tinted Moisturizers.

The brush gives you wonderful, all over coverage. Apply product and work from the center of the face outwards and blend. Where you may need extra coverage, press the brush with product directly on those areas of your face (essentially, you "stipple" the product on) and then blend again.

                          Hope that helps!

Yes, you can certainly use the Stippling Brush to apply and blend Pur Cosmetics 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Powder Foundation! This brush can be used to apply, buff, and blend all types of makeup, including powder, liquid, and cream foundations, as well as powder and cream blushes.

                          A:

GREAT question! If you're a beginner, there is a lot of information out there, and a lot of it can be overwhelming! But you are already one step ahead of the game, thinking about multiple uses for your brushes! That's one of the things we love so much about the Real Techniques brush brand – they are designed with more than one "use" in mind! So, as far as which brush would be better to multi-task, we think you would be best to go with the Sculpting Brush. The Stippling Brush is *terrific* and there are a lot of ways to use it, but we think you are going to find that you can use the Sculpting Brush in at least 4 different ways. Here's how we like to use it:

                          • Primers/Base Foundations: this brush is perfect for liquids or pressed liquid primers & foundations. The shorter to medium bristles can be used in a buffing motion to apply product onto the skin evenly, and you can use this brush for a layering technique, depending on how you want your base to look.
                          • Powders: this has a similar cut to a kabuki brush (it's just not as large), but it's still great for applying powders. The angled cut of the brushes helps you get powder (and foundation) in all those little crevices.
                          • Blush/bronzer: use this with bronzers in a sweeping motion across areas of your face where the sun would "kiss". Use with blush (liquid or powder) on cheeks to angle & buff for a perfect blush application.
                          • Sculpting/contouring (what it was primarily designed for): the angle on this brush makes it perfect to apply product to create a sculpted and contoured look.

Also, Real Techniques has a great brush cleanser, and cleaning your brushes will be key if you're using multiple products on one brush. Check out that cleanser here:

Thanks so much for your question, and please let us know if you have any more questions as you start to build your makeup routine! :-)
