they're okay.. for 2 months

By Angie

Comments about Real Techniques Core Collection:

These were really good brushes for the first two months that I used them, (only on powders) but recently the bristles in the buffing brush have started falling out, the black part of the brush is beginning to peel off, and the place where the handle meets the actual brush on the foundation brush cut open right below my brow.

These brushes are amazing for the price. I use all of them except the flat foundation brush. That is why I gave this 4 stars instead of 5. There`s nothing wrong with the flat brush, I just prefer using the Expert Face brush from Real Techniques (not included in this set) for liquid foundation application.

Each brush can be used for so many different products. Cream and powder products do well with these brushes.
I have bought a third set to use, since each brush from my two other sets are designated for different beauty products and these brushes are used in so many ways that i needed more for even more uses. I also bought a set for my Wife

I have been looking for a good foundation brush for quite some time now and I have finally found a WINNER! The real techniques buffing brush that is included in this kit is by far the best foundation application tool I have ever used and I have tried a lot of other tools including a variety of beauty sponges and brushes. The contour brush is amazing as well and is the perfect size for contouring. Both brushes can be used with liquid, creme, or powder formulas which I love. Not to mention you really can't beat the prices of RT brushes for the high quality you get. Great set! If you are debating on whether or not to buy it just do it already its well worth it.

This is a great little set of brushes!!! I had been reading the reviews and comparing them with other more expensive brands. The salesperson was also very helpful in pointing out the pros and cons of this set versus other brush sets. In the end I decided to save myself some money and give them a try. I've only used them twice with my mineral makeup and these brushes are so much better than the ones they give you in the kit. My makeup looked better than it has ever looked. They are so soft and they blend really well. I'm going to purchase a set for my god-daughter for her birthday.

Pointed foundation brush: use with liquid foundation to build custom coverage

Detailer brush: precision cut to effortlessly conceal problem areas; or, use with lipstick for long-lasting shape and definition

It may be a bit too flat in shape to apply brow products, but many use it to apply concealer around the brows to help define the brows. A video tutorial of this technique is available here:

                              • Staff Expert

                                A:

The Buffing Brush is not sold individually. The most similar brush that is sold individually is the Expert Face Brush:
                                http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod4260015&skuId=2244502

The bristles are just as dense and will allow for great pickup/application, and it is meant to be used in the same way as the Buffing Brush in terms of applying product on your face. The difference is that the length of the bristles is much shorter. That allows more targeted application and slightly more coverage.

Additionally, the new Bold Metals Flat Contour Brush has a secondary use as a foundation brush:
                                http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod11831013&skuId=2283104

It, too, has denser, shorter bristles, but the quality of the bristles on this brush is second to none! Additionally, the weighted handle allows for more control, leading to flawless looking skin.

We hope this extra info helps! :-)

Yes, absolutely, these two collections work wonderfully together. The Core Collection includes your complexion basics, including brushes for foundation, powder, concealer, and blush/contour, while the Starter Kit (Item #: 2230001) includes your essentials for eye and brow product application.

Although you can use it for cream or liquid formulas, the Buffing Brush works best to apply pressed and loose powder formulas due to its loosely packed, full bristles. A better method may be to apply your liquid foundation with a brush such as the Foundation Brush (Item #: 2229997), then buff and blend it using the Buffing Brush.

The buffing brush within this set can be used to apply Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation. The Airbuki Bamboo Powder Foundation Brush was specially designed to push into the mesh sifter dispenser of Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation for perfect, mess-free application, though you can certainly use another brush designed to apply loose powder formulas of foundation to apply it.

It is also one of our top rated items - it currently has a 4.7 out 5 star rating with over 800 reviews. The brushes are very high quality and are designed by professional makeup artist Sam Chapman. They feature synthetic bristles rather than goat or pony (most bareMinerals brushes feature cruelty-free natural hair bristles), so they are the perfect option for those who are vegan or who prefer non-animal hair brushes. This set makes a wonderful gift!

"The great thing about the Real Techniques line is that almost all of the brushes can be used in multiple ways. If you find that the Core Collection's Detailer Brush works for shaping your eyebrows, then definitely keep using it that way! However, if you’re looking for something that will give you a bit more precision and is a bit more rigid, you might want to try the Angled Brow Brush in our Starter Set. That set comes with 5 brushes, all centered around your eyes/brows as well as the carrying case and costs the same as the Core Collection. This brush may give you exactly what you're looking for. Plus, we always say that you can never have too many Real Techniques brushes!"

Great question! The Buffing Brush that comes in the Core Collection is different from the Expert Face Brush that is sold individually. The bristles in the Buffing Brush are longer and are not as densely packed as the Expert Face.

Both use a buffing method to apply foundation and/or powder to the skin and both help to achieve that flawless, gorgeous finish. The Expert Face Brush applies product in a bit more of a concentrated manner because of how dense the bristles are. Overall, though, it comes down to personal preference when deciding which brush to use. They are both fan favorites within the Real Techniques line!

While both are designed as finishing brushes, their brush head size and shape differ, so they offer different functions:

The Setting Brush has a smaller, pointed shaped head for precision. This is great for setting under eye concealer, getting into the “hard to reach” areas, and highlighting the cheekbones.

The Contour Brush in the Core Collection has a larger head than the setting brush. It also differs with a rounded head and is dense for applying more product. It can be used with darker powders for contouring effects as well as highlighting powders for the cheekbones.
