Comments about Essie Ridge Filling Base Coat:
Inspired by my sister-in-law's dedication to a perfect at-home manicure, I have been experimenting with "behind the scenes" products (read: not the nail color itself) that will improve the job. My new holy trinity is Essie RFBC, China Glaze Fast Forward top coat and Sally Hansen Nail Nutrition Green Tea + Soy Cuticle Oil. The base coat was my first major discovery - it dries quickly, leaves nails positively smooth and provides just the right amount of grip for your nail color. I've tried to cheap out with other base coats and always go back to Essie.
Comments about Essie Ridge Filling Base Coat:
Used this up, mostly being stubborn, but I didn't see any major improvement in nail appearance over any other base coat. And it didn't offer any other benefits, manicures didn't last noticeably longer, etc. It does look nice on its own, it has a shiny neutral finish for a professional-looking, nude nail.
If your nails are -really- ridgy its possible this could help you, but I have ridges in my nails when my iron is low and I can't imagine relying on this alone to make nails appear smooth. A light buff once in a while plus a regular or strengthening basecoat is my go-to method and I frequently get asked if my nails are professionally done.
In all, I wouldn't go out of my way to purchase this.

Comments about Essie Ridge Filling Base Coat:
This seemingly innocent brand was surprisingly good as a ridge filler. After removal of acrylic nails, mine were had a rough surface, despite sanding, and this product did the trick so that nail polish looks good on me.

Comments about Essie Ridge Filling Base Coat:
Essie makes some great products and this is one of my favorite base coats they make. If your nails have some slight imperfections, think post acrylic nails, this base will help fill those while acting as a great primer before adding color.
While some base coats can double as a top coat I wouldn't recommend this product for a top coat as it seems to be thicker than other bases and has a slight tint that could affect the final color.
If you need a good primer for some nails in need of some smoothing out pre-color this might be a good product to give a try.

My nails are fairly soft & ridgy. So far this is the best base coat I've ever used.
