Comments about Dermalogica Oil Control Lotion:

I have adult hormonal acne and haven't really been able to get it under control since Philosophy discontinued Hope in a Bottle. I use this daily, along with a simple cleanser (Neutrogena, acne oil-free) and my Clarisonic. For the last few weeks I've had very few pimples on my face and almost not blackheads on my nose.
It's definitely expensive, but if it works, I'll take it.

Comments about Dermalogica Oil Control Lotion:

I've only been using this for about a week so far but am really liking the results. When I use this in the morning under my foundation, I have noticed that it has helped keep me noticeably less shiny throughout the day.
I get pretty oily usually so I had been debating buying a primer but I haven't had good experiences with them in the past. This lotion came at the perfect time because now I don't feel like I need a primer at all (although with hotter more humid summer days coming up, who knows). I know a lot of other reviewers mentioned the mattifier, but I don't use it in combination with the and I find that it has still worked well for me.
You don't have to use a lot to cover the whole face, it has a pretty silky lightweight texture that sinks in really well. If you use too much I feel like it actually feels a little weird cause then it takes a lot more rubbing to get it all to sink in. It is definitely not a super moisturizing lotion so if you tend to get dry patches, this may not be for you or you may need another product to use with it. I don't use it at night (which is in the directions) because i like to rehydrate my skin more overnight. It's definitely on the pricey side which is my primary downside. While I feel like it works and will last a while, it's just at that price that I feel like it's a little ridiculous but I guess it combines what would be a primer and my daily lotion. It doesn't appear to have SPF though (which I am happy about on some days when I don't plan on being outside).
One last thought, this isn't really scented, which I think is great, but it does have almost a faint herbally/medicinal smell to it. it's not a strong smell and it goes away once you blend it in.

I was very disappointed in this product. I have oily skin yet still need a moisturizer. When I put this on it's ok, but a few minutes later if I touch my skin it peels off. After a while it looked like I was shedding. I tried it for two weeks and it did this each time.

Comments about Dermalogica Oil Control Lotion:

I love this product and I've been using it every day for several months. I have very oily and acne prone skin at 30+ and I switched to this from Clean & Clear's dual action oil-free moisturizer. That one would always make my skin look oily. This one makes my skin matte, soft, and doesn't sting at all like the old product did. It's a wonderful product for my skin, and I foresee using it it for years to come.

The only con for me is a big one, though. After using the same bottle for a couple of weeks, it starts to clog and becomes nearly impossible to get any product out. This has happened with the last three bottles that I've had. I've had to stick paper clips and pins in to try to open up the clog, but end up having to ask my boyfriend to squeeze it for me :(

Comments about Dermalogica Oil Control Lotion:

My facial skin is fair, VERY oily, has large pores, adult acne (I am 25 as of 2014), and I live in both southeast Georgia and north Georgia, so I am battling humidity too (my face sweats really easily). In addition to my skin problems, I take a medication or two that can cause acne, as a side effect. My recent skin regimen that appears to prevent the oil slick: Dermalogica's clearing skin wash then apply Dermalogica's clearing mattifier and oil control lotion along with clindamycin (from the dermatologist). I then use Hourglass Veil primer, then Dr Brandt BB shine control, and then Tarte Smooth Operator powder. I wait 5-10 minutes between applying the Dermalogica and clindamycin (I use the clindamycin before applying the Dermalogica mattifier and oil control). Then apply the primer and wait 5-10 minutes before applying the Dr Brandt BB shine control cream. I've had success with both types of Tarte concealer, which I apply after the BB cream. Then, after applying Tarte blush and Tarte matte bronzer along with Urban Decay eye makeup and Smashbox eye primer (I feel Smashbox eye primer doesn't try my eyes out like Urban Decays but both will hold eyeshadow) and Smashbox brow tech (which is incredible and waterproof). I finish my makeup routine with Urban Decay's De Slick setting spray. I've also had success with Benefit's porefessional primer. This is my first bottle of Hourglass Veil, but according to the label, it has more beneficial ingredients for your skin than the porefessional. I used to use Murad anti-aging products and acne products especially the oil control lotion, but it was doing good to hold the oil back for 8 hours. However, I was using Tarte BB primer cream instead of the Dr Brandt. I haven't used Tarte BB with the Dermalogica or Murad with the Dr Brandt BB. After the success I've had with the Dermalogica and Dr Brandt duo, I'm hesitant to retry the Tarte BB and Murad. Note, I use Tretinoin gel at night and take oral doxycycline hyclate both from my dermatologist.

Comments about Dermalogica Oil Control Lotion:

I usually try to go budget end on everything. However, my extremely oily skin was impossible to deal with using low-end products. I've been using Dermalogica for about a year now, and I love it! Especially this product! It's the only thing I've found that truly controls oil all day without harshly drying. I won't use anything else.

My question is similar to a previous question, but I'm asking anyway...is it necessary to use this product with the Clearing Mattifier in order to see true results or can it be used alone? My skin is incredibly oily, prone to breakouts, and I have an issue with blackheads and enlarged pores on my nose. On top of that, I'm a veterinary student on a budget and I live in an incredibly humid area. I would love to cut down on the oiliness of my skin, but I'm not sure which product would be best?

                  A:

Thank you for your inquiry. It is not mandatory that these products be used together however, for enlarged pores and wanting to reduce oil production it is recommended that you apply a very thin layer or Clearing Mattifier under Oil Control Lotion. Clearing Mattifier is a treatment product that will actually regilaute oil production. You may also do touch ups with Clearing Mattifier throughout the day.

I have very oily skin and I wash my face at night with Cetaphil oil control foam wash. After that I apply a prescribed acne medication called Ziana. In the morning, I don't apply the medicine, and I need something to keep my face matte. Will I need this oil control lotion paired with the clearing mattifier to keep my face matte? Or can I buy just one of the two, as I'm on a budget.

                  Hello Jas,

Thank you for your inquiry. We recommend starting with Oil Free Matte SPF 30 for daytime if you can only afford one product. Clearing Mattifer will help to control oil production however, this can be added later. It is also important to exfoliate and use Sebum Clearing Masque regularly.

Is there an oil control lotion by dermalogica that does NOT have the acne component? I bought an oily skin kit and that control lotion did not have that in it. Worry it might not agree with my skin otherwise.

Thank you for your inquiry. The only oil controlling product we have that does not contain salicylic acid is Oil Free Matte SPF30. This is a daytime moisturizer that has microsponges to soak up excess oil and sun protection. This product can be used everyday to minimize shine with light hydration.

To help control excess oil, we recommend using Oil Control Lotion. Active Moist can be used to provide lightweight hydration, but it does not contain any ingredients to combat excess oil production.

                  A:

These products should be layered. Clearing Mattifier is a targeted treatment that absorbs and slows down oil production. It is applied in the morning in a thin layer directly on to clean skin and then layered with Oil Control Lotion. Oil Control Lotion is a moisturizer that has microsponges in it to absorb oil while hydrating an oily skin and can be used morning and night. For excess oil it is important to use a clay based masque like Sebum Clearing Masque 2-3 times a week. We hope this helps!
