Comments about Hot Tools Tourmaline IONIC Professional Dryer:

Really like this bolw dryer. It makes all the difference in my hair texture. My old blow dryer was frying my hair to a crisp because it only had one heat setting. This one has 3 and is much more gentle on my hair. I love that it came with attachments as well. I havent used the diffuser yet, but the concentrater works well. And the price wasnt too bad either. Overall, im very satisfied.

Comments about Hot Tools Tourmaline IONIC Professional Dryer:

I have been a long-time, happy customer of a Hot Tools dryer purchased over ten years ago. So naturally, when the unit failed, I was inclined to replace it with another Hot Tools product. Because there were no consultants available to make product recommendation when I stopped at a local store, I made the choice myself--a Tourmaline IONIC Professional Dryer. Once home, there was nothing I liked about it (save the color). Chief among my selection criteria were: lightweight and quiet. It was similar in weight to my previous unit, but the comparison stopped there. The blower generated a pitch that was extremely irritating to my hearing. While the accessories simply slipped on, once the dryer was activated, the nozzle position was difficult to change. The design was awkward--longer length made it more difficult to position during drying with the nozzle on; and I was finding myself hitting the switches inadvertently.

The good news is that on return, I met with an Ulta consultant who recommended the Crimson Fade unit which I purchased after returning the Tourmaline dryer. I especially appreciate the ease of the transaction in exchanging dryers--with a significant savings for a lower cost unit. I am now a happy Hot Tools user again--and a happy Ulta customer.

Comments about Hot Tools Tourmaline IONIC Professional Dryer:

This is my first higher priced dryer. I'm coming from a Conair dryer that worked fine but eventually died. My biggest complaint with that one was that while diffusing it would blow to hard even on the lowest setting it would disturb the curls making them frizzy.
This one is great with a diffuser, but doesn't blow very hard on the highest setting. I have used it to blow out my hair straight twice, and it worked but I'm not 100% sold on it. My hair does seem softer afterwards. But I'm not used to the low flow of air. I'm trying to decide if the trade off of the ionic technology keeping my hair healthy versus a dryer that might dry it faster (more air comming out faster) but may be drying it out is worth it.
      So far...
Great for styling curly hair with a diffuser.
Ok for blowing curly hair straight.
I'll try to come back for an update after having it for a month or so.
I will say my husband hates it and is already looking for a replacement Conair. One that blows out a lot harder.
He cares nothing for the ionic/tourmaline technology and just wants something to dry his short hair fast
Me... It takes me close to 30 minutes to blow my hair out straight.
I'm all about new technology :)

If I only get 8 months out if this one. It will be the ladybone I purchase from Ulta.

This is my second tourmaline IONIC dryer. The first one lasted 3 years being used almost daily. I love that this dryer has a low heat and low airflow that is truly low. Most are too forceful which causes my curls and waves to straighten. This one is just low enough to encourage my curls but still dries my hair nicely.

Comments about Hot Tools Tourmaline IONIC Professional Dryer:

I was very impressed with this dryer! I have very thick, wavy hair that used to take way too long to dry. This lightweight dryer definitely cut down drying time, and it made my hair feel much softer than other hair dryers. I love the diffuser attachment for when I scrunch my hair! It gives plenty of volume and keeps my curls intact. My hair was a bit frizzy/poofy after using the dryer with the pick attachment and with the smoothing attachment to prepare for straightening/curling, but I am able to straighten or curl my hair much more effectively after using this hair dryer compared to my previous dryer. Overall, I think this hair dryer is well worth the investment, and I would definitely recommend it for thick, unmanageable hair!

Comments about Hot Tools Tourmaline IONIC Professional Dryer:

I only dry 2x each month on slightly damp hair ( I sit under a hooded dryer first). I don't use the comb attachment or high heat. I only use a brush or tension method to stretch my type 4 hair, so the dryer did not get a lot of use. After about 6 months the motor started humming and grinding! I've read other reviews that this dryer is a bust and I must concur! Don't waste your money!

                • Q:

What is the difference between ceramic and ionic drying . What is better, does it depend on hair type? I'm looking for a dryer with good heat but not so much air flow. It seems I find the opposite. They blow my hair too hard and I can't get it into the brush without tangling but they don't get hot enough to make my wavey hair curl and stay curled or even give it a nice bend it just gets blown stright and flat even on the lower air setting. What wattage should I buy? FYI I love a retractable cord.

                  • Staff Expert

                    A:

You won't find a retractable cord in a Professional dryer, but there are ones with that at Ulta. Wattage is not an indicator of power. It really will indicate how quickly the dryer heats up, how loud it will be, and lastly how much energy it uses. The best indicator is trying a dryer out in an Ulta Beauty store on the plug and play wall.
The Tourmaline Ionic Dryer is Hot Tools' bestselling and one of their best performing dryers because it has two sources of negative ions which help dry the hair faster. One from an ion generator and the other when the tourmaline inside the dryer heats up. Ceramic dryers just mean that the air is passing through a ceramic grill before it gets to the hair, so it's a gentler way of imparting heat.
If you want your hair to continue to be wavy after you blow dry, then consider using a dryer with a diffuser. Set on high heat, low speed and you'll get the look you're seeking. Hope this helps! :-)
