The discovery of Tourmaline technology was made by T3 founder, Kent Yu. Using Tourmaline, he developed the Featherweight which was inspired by the frustrations of his girlfriend’s morning beauty routine that began with high-priced, high-performance beauty products but ended with a drugstore hair dryer that would damage and fry her hair.

Kent's “aha moment” turned out to be the biggest innovation the hair business had seen in years, almost immediately becoming a phenomenon with influential session stylists such as Orlando Pita. This buzz quickly lead to editorial placements in top fashion and beauty magazines, a first for hair tools.
