Comments about L'Oréal Superior Preference Fade-Defying Color & Shine:

I'm not a big fan of box color, but every once in awhile must use one as I don't always have an extra $150.00 to get my hair colored every 5 weeks or so. I'm not one for big roots sticking out no matter what the trend is. This product gets the job done; but quite honestly, I wouldn't use it all the time, particularly if one is going several shades lighter. I covers grey all right, but doesn't last as long as whenever I get mine done in a salon. For the money, though, it's OK - and just that.

I have a medium dark brown hair and according to the package, the color should be seen on my hair as dark burgundy. Instead, it is all black now! I checked it under every light that I can and it was alway BLACK. Would never recommend it.

Comments about L'Oréal Superior Preference Fade-Defying Color & Shine:

I naturally have dark hair, but was covering blonde highlights from the summer. The color on the box and in my head were different things. I wanted a brighter red, what I got was really dark. I still really like the color, it's a lot like my natural color (auburn), and overall it looks healthier. It's soooo glossy afterwards. I looooveee the cream conditioner.

                • Q:

I used Excellence #10 and it isn't as light as I like and didn't last as long, but I liked how my hair felt with it. I used Feria ultra light beige blonde in the past and really want something as light or lighter than that. I don't like to be too yellow. Can you recommend a product in place of the ultra light beige blonde?

Hi there! Thank you for your question! Unfortunately, we do not have anything lighter than our 10 level shades with a beige tone like the Feria shade you used. We recommend continuing to use the Feria 110 (Very Light Beige Blonde) if you liked your color results!
                    We hope this information helps!

I have previously lightened my light brown/dark blonde hair with L'Oreal Les Blondissimes Extra Light Ash Blonde LB01 with good results. Should I be able to use 8 RG Rose Gold Blonde over it to achieve a color close to what's shown on the box?

On your light brown Hi Gigi! On your light brown/ dark blonde roots your hair will come out looking like the results pictured on the box. On the hair lightened to a pale blonde, the results will be a more intense pink. The color cue on panel on the side of the box will give a good idea of what to expect.

                • Q:

I use 7.5A and I like the color. But after just a few washes (w/sulfate free shampoo, for, colored hair) it turns very yellow/brassy. What can I do besides re-coloring ~every 2 weeks?
Also, I have to add that the gray at the scalp and in front of my ears comes back very quickly. More quickly than when it is done in a salon.
I prefer to do it myself. I like the product so I am hoping for some advice and suggestions.
                  Thank you

                    A:

If you currently use the medium ash blonde 7.5A in the Preference, we recommend switching to the same shade in the Excellence. The pigments in the Exclellence are a bit more opaque so the coverage of the gray will be better. Always be sure to follow the touch up directions when coloring your hair and if you have hair longer than shoulder length or hair that's very thick, you may need more than one kit for full color saturation.

Great question! Our hair color can only lighten 2 shades from your natural color. Your natural color, medium brown, is shade #5. The lightest shade you can use with your natural hair color is shade #7 Dark Blonde.

does anyone find that L'Oreal Preference hair color is darker than it says or shows on the box? I used the Excellence in medium brown and it came out very dark. I used that shade in other brands and it was fine. I was told to try Preference for my stubborn gray around my face and try light brown

                    A:

We are very sorry about this! The models on the boxes applied the color with natural hair before. If you are previously color-treated or bleach the results may turn different. If your hair is coming out too dark use a shampoo for normal hair and fade the color. Then, always follow the root touch up applications to prevent your hair from becoming porous and over-saturated.

Haircolor cannot lighten haircolor, so it will not get lighter and lighter each time you apply this. Make sure you follow the root touch-up application next time you use this!

For great subtle looking caramel highlights we recommend using our Touch-On Highlights kit in the shade Toasted Almond. To keep your highlights looking subtle, but sure to apply the lightener to small sections of hair (about 15 to 20 strands at a time), don't over do the number of highlights and be sure to leave the lightener on the hair long enough to lighten the hair past the red stage and into the gold stage.
