Comments about Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Eyeshadow Palette:

Like almost all the reviews have said, this palette is powdery. There is a LOT of fallout. It is also crazy pigmented (for the most part). You barely have to lay your brush on the surface to have enough product to thoroughly pigment your lids. I don't mind the fallout or the extreme pigmentation, though, because I do actually find most of the matte shades to blend pretty well. And some of the colors are really unique and pretty!

May main issues with the palette, and the reasons I'm returning it, are twofold. First, there are some straight up duds in here, in my opinion. Really, the shimmers are just about worthless, especially compared to the amazing shimmers in Modern Renaisance. Cube is an odd super-sheer pink shimmer that doesn't seem to serve much of a purpose. And it has to be built up so much that it's just not worth it. Same thing with Electric. Big disappointment. And Adorn is lovely but has to be dug out and packed on. All the shimmers have MAJOR fallout throughout the day. Rowdy is also a letdown for me. I'm super fair with neutral undertones and even on me, there is not a hint of purple in this color. It looks beautifully eggplant in the pan but is straight gray on me.

The other issue for me is that there are too many shades that are highly similar. Once on the skin, I find that Axis and Untamed (the teals) and New Wave and Edge (the yellows) are just too similar to be worth having together.

Overall, this was a pretty big letdown for me. I absolutely adore Modern Renaissance and was super excited for Subculture. But it is getting returned.

Not as bad as people say

Comments about Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Eyeshadow Palette:

Honestly, this palette has a lot to offer if you have the patience for it. I'm going to say that the brush left a lot to offer- I use my fingers to build the colors and they are easily swept away with the brush but if you BUILD the colors and don't BLEND them it works really well for the consistency. I will also say that the colors themselves are rather chalky as far as the mattes go, I cannot get cube onto a brush, and electric seems to be a go to to complete every look. The best suggestion I have for anyone who wants to give this palette a try is to go into a store and touch the tester as long as it isn't months old. I actually bought this planning on probably returning it but it's honestly my favorite palette I've bought in a long time. I also feel like I should mention that I don't own any other palettes by ABH but have many brow products of theirs.

Cons

  • not easy to blend

Best Uses

Comments about Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Eyeshadow Palette:

I am going to give it 3 stars, despite some of the colors not blending well. I've been playing with different primers, and I actually had a look go over very well, Fudge, All Star, And the gold glitter. The yellows are extremely hard to blend, especially in my crease area. Certain colors do not blend well together, they turn different colors, etc.

There is also quite a bit of fallout, i recommend to tap your brush two to three times before applying. However with PATIENCE, the finished look is gorgeous. I will stand by Anastasia with this one and continue using, and keep working on my blend game!

NOT FOR BEGINNERS.

I Don't Understand the Hate

By Nicole M

from San Antonio

Comments about Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Eyeshadow Palette:

I know there is a lot of mixed feelings on this palette but I don't understand it. I had no problem blending it out. With the shimmer/glitter colors I just spray fix plus on my brush to get the brightest color possible. I feel like the hate comes from people who don't know how to mix colors. I absolutely love ABH and I'm glad I bought it.

YouTube Overreaction?

Comments about Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Eyeshadow Palette:

I saw many negative videos regarding this product but ultimately wanted to try it for myself. I might be someone who applies make up with a light hand, or this formula was improved after the initial launch, because I didn't have any issues with any of the shades except Cube, which I think is probably meant to be sheer and used as more of a wash of color.

I like this palette overall and can't wait to pair it with ABH Prism, as I think they are actually the sister palettes and some more unique/edgier looks can be achieved using them together. Waiting to see!
