A cult fave of beauty insiders for totally effortless contouring.

Why you'll love it:

Define your cheekbones, perfect your nose and sculpt your jawline with this palette of blendable powders in universal shades to match your skin tone.

Redefine yourself:

As the contour experts, Smashbox has you covered. This kits offer step-by-step tips on defining and sculpting every face shape.

Formulated without parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate, phthalates and fragrance.

Includes:

  • 3 powders to contour, bronze and highlight
  • Angled contour brush
  • #SHAPEMATTERS insert with how-to's for your face shape

For the nose: Using the contour shade, apply two lines down the sides of your nose, starting near the beginning of your brow and ending at the tip of your nose, and blend, creating shadows for a slimming effect. Remember: Determine how slim you want your nose to be with these lines, so place them accordingly. Using the highlighting shade, accentuate the bridge by applying a thin line from the top to the ball of your nose, and blend; this draws the light to the center of your nose, making it look straighter. To make the nose look less long: Apply the contour shade to the very tip and underneath the tip between your nostrils to add shadows for the illusion of a shorter nose.

For cheeks: Suck in your cheeks to find the perfect hollow from your ear to the corner of your mouth. Using the contour shade, apply along this line and blend upward to create the illusion of sculpted cheeks by creating shadows. Blend upwards to instantly give the illusion of a facelift. Apply blush right above the contoured line - on the apples of your cheeks - to create a naturally-flushed look.

For the jawline: Apply the contour shade underneath your jawline to square off your chin for a more sculpted look.

Made my pores stand out and blotchy. My cheeks for contouring looked dirty and you can see the true depth of my craters. Ugh. Bronzer is okay. Highlighter does nothing

Comments about Smashbox Step-By-Step Contour Kit:

I bought this at 50% off to try to teach myself how to contour. I have really oily skin so I don't like using too many creme products, including the dark/light concealer approach to contouring I saw all over YouTube. For reference bought the lighter version and I have neutral-medium skin. The kit comes with a nice brush and a great set of diagrams for contouring and highlighting based on face shape. It's also compact so it's great for traveling and the powder is pretty blendable. However, I'm not really impressed with the pigmentation/shade options. The "contour" shade is a cool brown, which comes out very ashy on my neutral-medium skin. I usually use the "bronzing" shade to contour instead, because it is warmer, even though it's supposed to be used to accentuate the "contour" shade. The highlighting shade is not the sort of shimmery champagne shade you associate with highlighters (the whole set is matte), but a sort of light banana shade. I use it mostly to add more coverage to my undereye concealer and sometimes on my nose under an actual highlighter.

Now that I know how to contour I can do it just as well with a decently pigmented bronzer and an angled brush (the brush is actually pretty solid). I would not advise anyone to buy this product at full price if you have a similar skin tone to mine, but I can't really speak to others.

Comments about Smashbox Step-By-Step Contour Kit:

I an an olive pale tan color.. so I understand that the color may not work well for pale people.. but for someone like me with a rare skin tone it is so hard to find colors that fit my face perfectly, and this product does it!!! first off.. I prime with smashbox primer.. afterwards I put this product where I want it, then I blend it out with my lancome dual finish powder foundation.. these three combines are the holy grail for my daily routine! on a primer this blends like a dream, and works so well with my foundation. I look contoured and covered with light all day wear. the only complaint i have is that the brush is course compared to my collection of soft dreamy brushes. other than that no fallout, no blending problems, long lasting wear, light, easy to use and quality product.

Hi There! Yes, the colors are similar. The powders in the kit will increase the depth of your contour when they are layered over the sticks. The two work well together.

I love the contour color in the light/medium kit but I don't use the bronzer or the highlighter as they are a bit light for me. The colors in the medium/dark kit are too dark though. Is there a way for me to purchase just the contour color so I don't have to buy the whole kit and throw out 2/3 of it when I run out of the contour?
