I use these brushes for contouring and highlight. They are great brushes and are very soft. Although, the setting brush holds/wastes makeup a little more than the sculpting brush.

Comments about Real Techniques Sculpting Brush Set:

I'm a total brush junkie and I picked these up because I have heard such great things about the brand and this set. I bought this really excited for the sculpting brush, but I have really been impressed more by the fan brush and the setting brush more than anything! The sculpting brush is VERY dense and I have yet to find the right amount of light-handedness when applying my contour. I find it's really easy to go a bit dramatic with that brush, but it's user error and not necessarily the fault of the brush. The setting brush is PERFECT for setting my undereyes, and the fan gives the most perfect natural glow! I am glad I bought this set, you get a great value for the money!

Comments about Real Techniques Sculpting Brush Set:

I bought this mainly for the sculpting brush. I've recently been turned on to Real Techniques brushes and have purchased 3 different sets to replace some of my old crummy/scratchy brushes. These are super soft and apply products nicely. The sculpting brush is definitely my favorite! I use it with my Charlotte Tilbury x Norman Parkinson cream Filmstar Bronze & Glow bronzer and love the way it chisels my cheeks. The fan brush was pretty disappointing because it's not dense enough for my level of glow. I like a pretty intense highlight and would of preferred a denser highlighting brush. Instead I just have to keep dipping into the product to get this brush to apply enough for me. If you like a more subtle glow though, it should work for you just fine. The setting brush isn't anything too special but I do like it and use it every time I apply makeup. I use it to set my concealer just under my eyes. I like that it's on the smaller side because that is the only place I set my makeup (I have dry skin and don't need to set my whole face) and it let's me target that area without getting powder everywhere. I would say it's worth it just cause the sculpting brush is so good but if you're expecting an awesome fan brush you will be disappointed.

Comments about Real Techniques Sculpting Brush Set:

I have been a loyal fan of Sam and Nic's brushes for along time. I have always loved the quality and durability of their brushes. The quality is superb and the apply product evenly without absorbing too much product. I love the fan brush, for applying the perfect amount of highlight. The smaller brush I use it to apply highlight, bronzer and to contour areas of my face, neck and chest area. The larger brush can be used to apply foundation, contour, and powder. These brushes can be used for anything, and they are just amazing. For the price you really cannot beat it and they are great starter brushes or for your makeup kit.

I usually like to get high end brands when it comes to makeup and face products but when it comes to brushes I like to stick to more affordable options. I needed some new brushes for contouring and highlighting and these are good for that purpose.

I like the soft quality of these brushes and they work well with powders and liquids. I also love the rubber like grip at the ends of the brush handles.

The fan brush is very thin and flimsy and doesn't work well for me but is high quality. The small finishing brush is a little awkward because of it's uneven shape, but is still very useful. The sculpting brush is amazing and great to hold.

                        HI Cassidy,

Thanks for your question - we love that you have this set already! One of the best things about our brushes is that they are so versatile & can be used not only for many different looks, but also can be used with many different types of products. So, these brushes will definitely work with powder contour as well as your creams. The cut is what helps define your look and to best work with the contours of your face, so you should find that these are great for both!

                        Hope that helps!

                        Hi Andrea,

Thanks for your question. The brushes in here have really specific cuts and functions, and the more specialized you get, sometimes the more expensive it can get to make those unique brushes. We want to keep these kits as affordable as possible, but still provide you with a really great value; so, on this one, we decided to keep the cost down by eliminating the case.

                        Thanks!

                        A:

                        Hi Yami,

It's a great question - Sculpting and Contouring is all the rage right now and everyone wants to learn how to do it! This kit is a great starting point for you since it gives you the brushes you will need.

I will tell you what each brush does, but I would recommend that perhaps you check out a video on YouTube about this kit by the makeup artist/sisters behind the brand called Pixiwoo. That way, you can see how these brushes and the product actually work. If you're anything like me, watching someone do something like this is a bit easier than reading it!

The kit has three brushes: a Sculpting, a Fan and a Setting. Here's how you use all three:

Sculpting Brush: apply a small amount cream contour (or powder) on to the brush and shape it down your cheekbone (top of the ear, heading towards the corner of your mouth). Blend product well, mainly in the hollow of your cheek. Take a small amount of contour cream and apply to the jawbone, as well as a small amount around the hairline.

Fan Brush: Apply contour product (cream or powder) to brush, and sweep down the sides of your nose, from the inside socket of your eye to the tip of your nose. You can also use this brush to further define the contour line on your cheeks and jawbone (if you want a really sharp look). But remember to blend so it isn't exactly a sharp line. You can also take your highlighting powder or cream and apply down the middle of your nose.

Setting Brush: Take a small amount of highlighter (again, powder or cream, and it can be matte or shine) onto the brush and apply to the top of the contour line on your cheekbone. Brush back and forth to blend.

The other nice thing about these brushes is that they are so multi-functional. You don't have to use them just for contouring. I love the sculpting brush for apply blush as well as apply foundation.

The Setting Brush is perfect for a concealer, too, if you have a larger blemish or more redness to hide. It's just perfect for feathering out the edges and blending.

                        Hope that helps!

Is the setting brush the same as the contour brush that comes with the orange core collection set or are they slightly different?

Basically, can I use them interchangeably for setting powder under my eyes/actual contouring and vice versa?

                        A:

                        Hey Anamika,

Great question! The Contour Brush in the Core Collection is slightly larger than the Setting Brush, so it becomes more of a personal preference and, as funny as it sounds, it also depends on the size of your face.

Sam & Nic Chapman, the sisters behind the Real Techniques brand, are big into talking about appropriate brush sizes for your face, specifically for blushes and contouring. If you have a smaller face, the Setting Brush will probably be awesome. If the area you're contouring is larger, then the brush in the Core Collection would work well.

I love using the Setting Brush also as a way to hide imperfections and redness. It enables you to feather out the edges of the product in a way that ends up blending so naturally into your skin. It's just a great, multi-functional brush that I think everyone needs! :)

                        Hope that helps!

                        Hi Jess,

That is a really great question! I love this Sculpting Brush so much and use it for a lot more things than just sculpting & contouring!

If you're looking for a more natural, sun-kissed look with your bronzer, I would probably recommend a brush with a bit of a lighter, "fluffier" head - the more densely packed the bristles, the more product is transferred to your face - which is why the Sculpting Brush is so good for contouring, or applying blush, etc.

I absolutely love using this Bold Metals Powder Brush for bronzer application, which you can find here: http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod11831007

It holds the product beautifully and I gently sweep it over the areas of my face that I want to give a bit more color to and I am always so happy with the end result.

                        Thanks again!
